THEY DON'T ALL STINK IN HOLLYWOOD: A LIST OF THE GOOD GUYS

Posted on 03/04/2003 12:57:05 AM PST by Cinnamon Girl

It seems like everyone has been making lists lately of all the big mouths in Hollywood who like to spew their hate speech against President Bush and share their ignorance about foreign affairs. There's even a website dedicated to the subject: www.hollywoodhalfwits.com.

But is there a Festivus for the rest of us? Little by little, conservatives, or at least supporters of President Bush, are making themselves known, sometimes against their own better judgment.

Here's a list, with quotes:

1. Shlomo Goldberg. Who is Shlomo Goldberg? Try actor Steve Bond, who played "Jimmy Lee Holt" on General Hospital. He called into the Larry Elder show on Monday to come out as a conservative, who, to top it off, was born in Israel. Steve spoke eloquently about the liberals' foolish faith in the U.N. inspectors. Someone give this guy a good role!

2. James Woods: "I like the Rumsfeld approach to things, you know. If they're not right, shoot ‘em. I’m not about appeasing any of these crappy little Arab states that want to hold us hostage with oil, you know, and decide they’re going to use terrorism or state support it." (from the Conway & Steckler show)

3. James Earl Jones: Said he doesn't oppose U.S. military action in Iraq, provided the country gets involved as soon as necessary and stays to finish the job. (from Fox News)

Kelsey Grammer: ``The thing I most respond to in the political arena is people that actually don't play politics, and I think President Bush comes from a place that is sincere.'' (from AP via NYT)

Heather Locklear: "He's a scumbag," said the vixen of "Spin City" and formerly of "Melrose Place." But Locklear was quick to clarify: She was talking about President Josiah Bartlet, played by Martin Sheen. (from the Weekly Standard)

(the following is according the the Philadelphia Enquirer:)

Babylon Five's Tracy Scoggins

Senator-turned-Law-&-Order-star Fred Thompson: "Thank goodness we have a President with the courage to protect our country."

Libertarians: Drew Carey, Lisa Kennedy, Kurt Russell, Penn and Teller, Tommy Chong, Russell Means

John Malkovich: caused an outcry last summer when he told a group of Cambridge students he'd like to shoot a certain anti-Israel, anti-American member of Parliament.

Conservative Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton is honorary chairperson of Feminists for Life.

Emma Caulfield, who plays Anya on Buffy the Vampire Slayer: "Identifies herself as a Republican, and has said she would take a break from acting to actively campaign for Elizabeth Dole, in the event that Ms. Dole runs for president again in a future election." (from Internet Movie Database)

Ron Silver: "I kind of like Rumsfeld's 'old Europe versus the new Europe,' and we saw it in the last two weeks, with France and Germany, who were not with us on June 6, 1944, I don't know why we expect them to be with us today."

R. Lee Ermey, a former Marine who played the scary drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket: "Once again, Barbra Streisand has opened her alligator-sized mouth wide before her hummingbird brain has had a chance to catch up. Ms. Streisand does not speak for me or many other folks in this business."

Bruce Willis, White House spokesman for children in foster care: Willis purchased 12,000 boxes of girl Scout cookies from his 8-year-old daughter Tallulah Belle to support military personnel serving in the Middle East. His cookies were given to Marines and Sailors onboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy, and Army and Air Force personnel in Afghanistan.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: may run as a Republican for governor of California.

Dennis Miller on Hardball: Matthews: “Did you vote for him?” Miller: “Yes I did.” Matthews: “First time you voted Republican? I feel like I’m Brian Lamb here.” Miller: “Well, you know, a gentleman doesn’t kiss and tell. I’ll tell you about Bush, but I, you know I-” Matthews: “Are you a lifelong Republican or a lifelong Democrat?” Miller: “I was a lifelong Democrat for a long time.” Matthews: “Did you switch for Bush?” Miller: “Well I switched for other reasons. I began to find the dialogue on the left side of it to be getting a little strident."

Norm McDonald: where is he?

Charlton Heston on Today Show: Lauer demanded: "Have you ever gotten up one morning, read the newspaper or seen the news about a particularly horrific crime or event that involved a shooting and thought even for a second, I may be on the wrong side of this issue?"
Heston: "No I never felt that."

"I heard Ron Silver on Hannity a few weeks ago and he was brilliant."

Mr. Silver is an intelligent and eloquent speaker. He also has political ambitions. And being that he is a devout Liberal, is adept to talking out of both sides of his mouth, as the situation dictates. He's not stupid, but he is a Liberal. Which makes him dangerous.

Liberals don't change their spots easily or often. When it comes to Liberals, I believe none of what I hear, and half of what I see.

I once saw a quote from Brad Pitt . . .

He is, indeed, a lib—as is his spouse.

Anything about Mel Gibson? He's vocally pro-life (and doesn't like homosexuality, according to reports). I do know that he went to the White House to premier his movie "We Were Soldiers" with President Bush. He called Clinton a "low-level opportunist".

Does Gibson have any GOP connections?

From Media Research Center's website Thursday February 11, 1999 (Link)

Actor Ron Silver has nothing but contempt for Republicans, especially after they went after his President. All this week ABC’s Politically Incorrect is being taped at the Warner Theater in Washington, DC. On Monday’s show, MRC analyst Jessica Anderson documented, Silver, who is now co-star of the NBC sit-com Veronica’s Closet, scoffed at how Republicans control "the people's House" when "they don't like the people." Later he charged that the 13 House managers "are every bit as flawed as our President, but they were lucky and, thank God, they didn't have Starr with $40 million going after them for seven years."

Thursday’s guest list included Sam Donaldson and the stridently leftist Richard Belzer, star of NBC’s Homicide. Politically Incorrect airs daily after Nightline and Washington area viewers should be aware that WJLA this week is not delaying the airing for 30 minutes as it usually does to accommodate Extra! This week Politically Incorrect is running at 12:07am.

On the February 8 Politically Incorrect Silver appeared with fellow liberal Ann Richards and opposite Republican Congressman Matt Salmon and Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak who more than held his own. Here are a couple of Silver’s diatribes, the first of which will be posted Thursday morning on the MRC home page after Kristina Sewell cues it up:

-- Silver: "I think it's really an important question to figure out what the Republican Party is gonna do after this. I mean, they've shut down the government, and they are very proud of it, and then they didn't want to be blamed for it. Then in '94, they came in, the revolution, right, the class of '94 came in and they said, ‘We're grassroots, and the people,’ and here we are in '99 and they're saying, ‘The thing wrong with the country is the people because they don't get it and they're not outraged enough.’"

Sajak: "No."

Silver over cheers and applause from audience: "And wait, wait, Pat, let me just finish this. Now what has the Republican Party done when they had the House, the people's House? But they don't like the people. But what have they done? [Laughter from audience] What have they done? They renamed National Airport. They tried to shut down the government. [Cheers and applause] And they're trying to get into your bedroom to find out what you're doing. What kind of party is that?"

-- Silver: "Pat, Congressman [Matt Salmon], is there no sense of shame on your part or the party about the clear, cheap hypocrisy on the part of many of the House managers and the party? You're talking about Henry Hyde, Helen Chenoweth, Bob Livingston, Bob Barr....Isn't there any, wait, is there, is there no sense on your part that the Founding Fathers, your 13 House managers, are every bit as flawed as our President, but they were lucky and, thank God they didn't have Starr with $40 million going after them for seven years."

-- Silver: "Matt [Salmon], don't you think the party has a problem? You're clearly hostages to the right-wing fringe of your party."

From the London Daily Telegraph, January 2, 1997:

Clinton spends New Year with huggers and shakers
By Hugh Davies in Washington

THERE are those who enjoy champagne, food and friends at the New Year - and then there is Bill Clinton.

He has just spent a few days at Hilton Head, South Carolina, at the "Renaissance" festival of soul-searching by the sea, a dawn-to-midnight exercise in empathy and enlightenment that ends with everybody holding hands and hugging.

It is where those who consider themselves to be the liberal movers and shakers in America retreat with their children to "bond" as one big happy extended family and muse on the problems facing their lives and country.

Mr. Clinton and his wife, Hillary, cannot get enough of these annual get-togethers. It was their 13th session. Fellow guests included Barbara Streisand, author Gail Sheehy, Lady Bird Johnson, sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Jaws author Peter Benchley, Yale law professor Stephen Carter, Apollo astronaut Walt Cunningham and actor Ron Silver.

And speaking of Designing Women, how about Delta Burke and her hubby, Gerald McRainey?

I think Gerald McRainey is one of the coolest damn actors there is. I would watch anything he is in because he is just so damn cool. I have to admit though, I haven't seen alot of "Simon and Simon", however. I kind of discovered him after that.

As for Dixie carter. Conservative or not, I'm not that crazy about her. She comes off as shrill and aristocratic. Maybe it's the parts she plays.

BTW, do you still listen to Sheryl Crow. I know you liked her. Hope you are not too disappointed. :(

Do we call poseur-songs about cocaine, whiskey and promiscuity "duets?"

Actually, "Picture" really is a beautiful song, particularly if you've been in a position to know what it's like to love someone, and not be with them for whatever (and in most cases, stupid) reasons.

The whiskey & cocaine part I found a bit refreshing because of the honesty there. Kid Rock basically comes out and says this is what it's like - and doesn't hide anything. He's always been like that with his songs, which is why I'm such a big fan of his. No, I don't think cocaine should be legal or any of that, but you have to love the honesty in his songs. I only hope that it doesn't destroy a very talented rocker.

[...]In the car home he tells me that he voted Reagan and Bush senior.
But how does a rebel end up a reactionary?
[typical subtle BBC journalism, LOL] He says that welfare is too vast in the US, that it was good that Bush was head of the CIA, that it's time for smaller Government.

"He is, indeed, a lib—as is his spouse."

I'm surprised to hear that about Brad Pitt. Brad has always appeared in interviews to be more of a man than your typical Hollywood wuss. Go figure.

I read on FR that when he was asked what he thought about the Iraq situation, he was quoted as saying, "Why would anyone care about what I think about Iraq, I'm an actor". But there was no source for the statement.

I don't really have a problem with whatever personal beliefs these people have. It's when they used their celebrity to promote them over mine, is when I get perturbed.

I'm still torn about Sheryl. Her musical talents, particularly her song writing, is still great. Right now though, I can't get past her empty-headed politics. If she had any guts, she'd get on a show like Hannity and Colmes and go into more detail about her stance. But I doubt that will ever happen.

Have you ever seen his personal website?

He has his own "motivational figure"... how cool is that?

"The Gunnery SGT. R. Lee Ermey 12" Motivational Figure inspires the average man to action and excites a new purpose in those that have lost their way.
This figure not only features the likeness of Gunnery SGT. R. Lee Ermey but also a one minute sound chip that barks his unique motivational advice that will kick your rear in gear.
The figure comes with a saber with sheath, and Drill Instructors famous 'Smokey Bear' cover (or hat for you civilians).
The Motivational Figure™ is packed in a full color box that features the Marine Corps Sergeant's Creed, Lee's biography and filmography, and a certificate on the back with a space where The Gunny will AUTOGRAPH it.
(Remember, the Gunny signs every one personally!)"
This version is RATED 'R' for 'salty' language.

So Brad thinks that electric cars are the answer?

He's right to think that his opinions shouldn't carry any wieght.
