BUSH SHOULD PUT UP OR SHUTUP ON IRAQ!

Posted on 03/06/2003 2:00:13 PM PST by BJR

This Bush supporter is about to turn. For months we have heard all the valid reasons for ridding thEE world of Sadam Hussein, over and over and over again. Tonight, the word is that Bush will answer press questions on Iraq and, yet again, assure us all that no decision on war has been made. Great! The markets can continue to collapse, anti-war demonstrations go on, Bush's re-elect poll numbers plummet and Wart Hog Helen gets to ridicule Bush some more.

Well I've had it with Bush. The guy really isn't very smart afterall. And that guy Powell of his has actually done the impossible by making Madeleine Albright look competent in comparison. Bush discarded good advice from experts and get's snookered by Powell into going thru the UN, then watches as the French snooker Powell. And the US now has the humiliating task of begging the likes of Angola and Cameroon for approval to defend the country from horrendous attacks. In the meantime, Powell says we can't talk to North Korea as if just talking was synonymous with re-negotiating an agreement. As a result, Korea may start a war and the US foreign policy is the laughing stock of the world.

Enough is enough! Bush should fire Colin Powell, shutup and stay holed up in the white house until he is actually ready to act as tough as he talks. Come out only to announce the invasion of Iraq or its successful disarming by the UN, whichever comes first.

If Bush fired Powell and Powell ran for President, Powell would win. That's because we have a great number of weak, stupid people in this nation--like it or not.

I agree that this has been a keystone cops operation, and ultimatly Pres. Bush is responsible. He deserves the poll numbers he has. Iraq should have been taken care of by Super Bowl Sunday.

What if the whole UN thing was just a ruse to keep the WMD in the bunkers until we are ready to move? It has been opined by others on this board that our most critical time was during the build up. Massive casualties on the docks could push the peace movement to the mainstream. Now Saddam has had to keep the crap hidden from the inspectors, the U2's and the predators; while we built up a quarter million man force. Bush had already told the Euroweenies we will do it without them. It just isn't time yet.

I too have faith that he will do the right thing in the end.
However, there is absolutely nothing that will happen that
could justify the horrible way Bush/Powell have handled public relations for the past two months. Bush made great speeches on Iraq to Congress, the UN and to the nation. Going around and around on the topic repeating himself did much more harm than good.

I hate seeing conservatives blinding themselves to poor performance like the liberals do all the time (think clinton).

Gee, my support for Jesus has gone down because He said He would return and He hasn't yet. Crime is rampant, tyrants rule, anti-God people are crowing louder, rights are being taken away left and right, the Constitution is being shredded, liberals are still around ranting and raving. Gosh, I'm going to give up on Him. If He doesn't come soon, I'll never trust Him again.

A bit irreverent, but it has a point. I get frustrated, too, by the "delay." But I trust Bush to do what he says. He speaks about liberating Iraq and I believe he will. I believe he and his crew have a plan. The bombing will start. I believe firmly that Bush & Co. will blow Saddam out of Iraq, and the world is going to shut up with its anti-American crap for a little while. Until North Korea. Then they'll pipe up again. Unfortunately.

Our patience will be rewarded.

I agree that:

1) It's time to go or get off the pot. One or the other. Period.

2) Putting so much emphasis on UN spoort was a mistake. It's been said by many here from the minute we decided to go that route that we would end up with a political mess.

Aside from that, I think you need to relax a little.

We are already in this up to our eyeballs and even if the bombs started falling right now it's going to take a little while to dig back out.

Patience is a virtue.

Putting 300,000 troops and 6 carrier groups and enough firepower to put the fear of God into even the stupidest in the Middle East would, in most quarters, be called putting up.

Shutting up is not an option when you are the leader of a Constitutional Republic since citizens like myself wish to keep as well informed as possible within security parameters.

On this issue I agree with the President if the end result is we get of the UN, if we are not doing this to make the UN worthless and the UN is very much a Bush goal then I will be very outspoken against the UN and the reason we even allow the UN in out country as The un is a communist front. Bush has no business even consulting it.

So *WHY* do we have to attack this very moment?

You didn't really make much of a case, other than that you were incapable of waiting for the action to start, you know.

Consider, if *you* are boiling under all of this "pressure", how the French, Germans, and Iraqis must feel.

Consider, maybe we *want* to have our troops based near Iraq (rather than in Germany and South Korea), and that constantly reminding the world that we are "just about ready to strike" is a grand way to keep anyone from claiming that we are pulling our troops out of Germany merely for political reasons (hopefully such thoughts aren't too deep for the readers on this thread).

Consider that perhaps we are merely keeping up the pressure on Iraq in order to prevent Iraq from offering Osama Bin Ladin sanctuary. A little pressure and some delaying, and poof, suddenly we've tracked the little SOB down.

Maybe we are delaying in order to force the hand of other regional players (e.g. North Korea, China, Iran, Syria).

Perhaps we are keeping up all of this "war is imminent" pressure in order to make other key players (e.g. the "anti-war" movement, al qaeda, France/Germany/Cuba) to mis-guess/mis-time their political and/or military moves.

Or maybe we're just not in a hurry. Building up, taking our time, and getting things done properly the first time might just be the top goal of the current administration.

But sheesh, if *you* can't handle the pressure then I suppose that Bush had better invade Iraq tonight! < /MOCKING >

Amen to that. I'm thankful that at least some freepers are paying attention to what is actually happening. Too many of them, though, just sit around lobbing insults all day at anyone criticizing Bush for any reason.
