LA HABRA -- Antiwar protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial that residents erected on a fence along Whittier Boulevard days after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and have maintained ever since.

However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. John Rees said Monday.

"For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said.

I just want everyone to remember, and to all those that want to slam California, that the good people in the Whittier/La Habra area were the ones that put this memorial up on their own accord, taking their time and money to support this and maintain this memorial for the past 18 months, that I am proud of them and others that support this memorial that has now evolved into the national spotlight, on that corner of America.

Good bless America and the people of that area. Never forget 911 and the brutal, massive death that was brought to our shores.

That area where the memorial is would not be a safe place to walk at night. The area is run down and there are gangs around there. La Habra does have nice parts though, I agree.

Not so far away from there as I also mentioned are homes (to the North)where the average price is 1.2 million these days. But as I said, where the memorial is happens to be a run down area/pocket if you will.

There are a ton of illegals housed in addition further south of that area. La Habra in general has far more than their fair share. People do call it "Guada La Habra" these days, especially south of Whittier Blvd.

The North gets nice though, I totally agree.
