"So should we rename French Poodles "Freedom Poodles?"

Nowhere does the word "French" appear in the breed names of poodles. They are Standard Poodles, Miniature Poodles, and Toy Poodles. Some groomers style the dogs with "French Cuts" but that in no way refers to the breeds themselves.

Woof.

It's not just small, it's irrelevant.

"The name changes were spearheaded by two Republican lawmakers who plan to hold a news conference later Tuesday to make the name changes official on the menus."

Although the sentiment is correct....Is this the best our lawmakers can do????

When done by a resturaunt owner the change is cute and patriotic......

When legislated by a US Senator or Congressman, it is pathetic, childish and impotent....If they want to stand up and be counted then do their job! Not legislate the name of items on the lunch cafeteria menu dammit!

Talk about ineffective......Slap a tariff on French goods...even pass a non-binding resolution (ball-less but at least legislative), but lunch menus?

Geeezzzzz....

This just in:

Julia Child has announced that she is considering referring to herself as The "Freedom" Chef. In response, the French are reportedly "very hurt" and are now reconsidering whether to veto the new UN resolution.

Will keep you posted as the situation develops.

I saw a Congressman (Jim Saxton??) this weekend say that he was proposing a resolution that would bar American support for the Paris Air Show. He said that 47% of the companies participating in tis extravaganza are American. He thinks we should keep our $$$ home, and I agree.

Check out this email I got from International House of Pancakes on the subject of "French Toast"

Dear XXXX.XXXXXX:

Thank you for taking the time to contact IHOP with your comments. We do not intend to send any political message with our commercials, rather we are simply inviting guests in for a great new product that has been in development for months. French Toast has existed for hundreds of years and while the origin is debated, our understanding is that it was invented near Albany, New York by Joseph French, thus the name. All of the ingredients used in preparation are purchased from American companies if that helps to alleviate any of your concerns. We do appreciate your concerns and thank you for sharing them.

Sincerely,

Patrick Lenow Director, Public Relations

<<< My email to IHOP >>>

To Whom it May Concern,

I think your company is missing the boat.

All around the country, restaraunts are replacing "French" with "Freedom" in their menus. You've just introduced a tasty item called "stuffed french toast", and I think you would benefit by considering a similar name change.

Since "Freedom" is more American than just about anything "French", you would be on to something. Even if "International" is your first name.

I say we send them a statue of "french" liberty for all their help. The statue should be a 600 foot unshaved female arm pit connected to a hand waving only one finger.

This was my reply to the above emails with IHOP:

TWIMC,

I appreciate the response! It was both interesting and informative.

I did not know that about the name of the toast. I'll have to see if I can research that online.

You saved me from a major faux pas: I almost shot off a nastygram to French's Mustard company....

;^)

Best Regards,
XXXXX XXXX

I don think this boycotting is going to be much. I hear lots of counties are boycotting american goods, including the arab countries.

You can wait until they announce the next balance of trade numbers, but I will bet you that we will show a deficit in our trade.
