...they're usually there to get clients, which means they're bringing money home, not taking it away.

One would hope. However, my experience with trade shows is that we usually spend more than we receive. They're fine when you are trying to get known, but later on the orders will come to you anyway. Most of the companies around here have canceled all appearances at trade shows. One large company here that used to have huge booths at all the big shows, including Hannover Fair, has just been sending representatives to tour and talk to booth holders one on one for the last three years -- no more booths.

saw a Congressman (Jim Saxton??) this weekend say that he was proposing a resolution that would bar American support for the Paris Air Show....I agree.

You are agreeing with an idjit

The Paris Air show is a TRADE show where manufacturers compete for customers.

If Boeing stays home then Airbus and Tupelov have the field to themselves.

Are we going to changr the way we kiss...Call it Freedom Kissing?

My guess is that anyone who is *UPTIGHT* enough to worry about the names of *FRENCH FRIES* and FRENCH TOAST* doesn't do a lot of *FRENCH KISSING* anyway.

Maybe next they can convince *CONDI RICE* to change her name to *CONDI BIG MAC* to show their *DISPLEASURE* with *CHINA*.

I saw Congressman Paxton flesh out his remarks last night. He fully agrees that no one can keep American companies from attending this show. However, the government (taxpayers) does not have to subsidize them.

Most of these companies borrow, or lease back, equipment and planes from the US Government to demonstrate. They also "borrow" pilots and crew from the armed services for the event at great expense to the taxpayer and risk to the pilots' lives. The US Government does not have to participate.
