KC Radio Stations Dump Dixie Chicks

If you tuned in to any of Kansas City's country music stations Thursday, you did not hear the Dixie Chicks.
Several stations in town have dumped the group's music over the lead singer's controversial comments about President Bush, KMBC's Jeremy Hubbard reported.
At a concert in London earlier this week, Natalie Maines, the band's lead singer said, " Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
The Guardian, a London paper that reported the comment, said Maines' remark got the crowd cheering.
Many local residents, however, were not excited about the singer's point of view.
"If you guys play another Dixie Chicks song, we'll never listen to you again," one country music fan told KBEQ.
The station logged nearly 700 phone calls Thursday, denouncing Maines' comment.
The reactions from listeners were enough for programmers at all three big Kansas City country radio stations to pull the Dixie Chicks from their playlists, Hubbard reported.
But some Dixie Chicks fans didn't appreciate the ban.
"There are some artists that I like that have said things I don't agree with, but it doesn't stop me from listening to their music," said radio listener Shawn Peterson.
One radio station is even taking the boycott a step further.
Friday morning, one local station will take the ban a step further. They have invited their listeners to come to the station's studios and dump their Dixie Chicks CDs in a big trash can, Hubbard said.
The Dixie Chicks are scheduled to play to a sold out crowd in Kansas City next month.

Yeah, this marks the point where the Dixie Chicks career goes on a steep downward slope. I guess that dumb statement the singer made in Europe will be known as the Dixie Chicks "Jump The Shark" moment. It's all DOWNHILL for them from now on.

.....And so it begins. Rush mentioned that it would be interesting to see how the fans take to this, seeing as how most C&W fans lean conservative.
My conservative wife can't stand these women. She thinks they're a bunch of man-hating feminazi's. Every time one of their songs came on, she insisted on changing the station.

On their site chat room two days ago worried about getting tickets. Yesterday they had over 3,000 posts most unfavorable about their comments. Site:
http://messages.yahoo.com/?action=m&tid=dxc1&sid=22198844&mid=11275
There are post refering to FREEPERS as TERRORISTS. It seems like they don't appreciate anti-chicks comments. At least it will be easier for some of their remaining fans to get tickets. Posters have also stated some of the stations that will no longer play Chicks stuff.

I don't know many songs by the dixie chicks... now I never will. I thought the cover to Landslide was pathetic. Since I am the proud mother of two boys and married to a wonderful guy, I don't appreciate the male bashing in their songs either. Glad to see them GO!!!

"Boycott fever". I'm beginning to think that if someone posted, "There is scientific proof that the air belonged to France and the US was paying a royalty to France based on how much we use". A lot of people would quit breathing and die. Well at least they would claim that they will no longer breath or they never breathed because they already knew France was paid for the air. It's getting a little silly. "I'm not making this up I heard it on the Rush Limbaugh show. I read it in a magazine too, this is serious".

Imus had fun with this story today. He was referring to the singer as a "fat slob" who couldn't find Iraq, or Texas for that matter, on a map.
These celebrities just don't get it. They're losing more and more fans each day when they open their mouth. Just a few weeks ago, Imus was saying that the Chicks w/ Dicks (my title) were one of the few country bands who play real country music. Now, as far as he's concerned, they're relegated to "Fat whore" status. And the same goes for me, although I always thought they sucked.

Just heard on a local radio call-in show that the biggest country music station in Panama City, Florida will no longer play any Dixie Chicks' songs. To top it all off, everywhere a chick song was scheduled, a number by Toby Keith will be played.
I understand perfectly why comments about freepers can only be in the form of insults. Logic and well thought out responses escape them.

Sorry Shawn, but the station has to look out for their business and if people start banning them, they are in deep doo doo. Nobody is stopping you from listening to them--their CD's are still in stores.

Can you call WFLS? As of last night they were still playing Blixie Chicks - I switched over from WTOP hoping to hear "Have You Forgotten?" but heard their stupid little soldier song instead.
I sat in the parking lot in Wally's listening to the whole thing, hoping there'd be anything but the overdone trite soldier-dies/girl-sad ending, but that's what it was.

Maybe they will have to have a public expulsion of the Fat Chick to make amends with the public. I recently saw a "history of the Blixie Chix" program, and trust me, the chix are ruthless. I suspect the expulsion real soon, after the cash flow slows.

If you are not familiar with many of their songs, how can you describe them as man-bashing?
Yes, "Goodbye Earl" was satirically homicidal. But surely, you do not equate with revenge on a serial wife beater as man-bashing.
That said, I think Nathalie's comments were stupid and ones which she will commercially regret. Frankly, I think her Daddy needs to call her back home and reeducate her on keeping your political opinions to yourself if you want to be successful in public life.

"These celebrities just don't get it. They're losing more and more fans each day when they open their mouth"
All of these celebs, sponsors, etc. that people complain to have a standard comeback, like, "They have the same free speech rights as anyone...blah, blah, blah".
Well, that's true. but
The freedom of speech is the prohibition of the government stifling free speech...but what these brain-dead celebs don't get is, it doesn't mean we have to listen to it, or SUPPORT them in any way, if we disagree. They really don't get it. Do they expect us to say, "Oh, well your anti-Bush, anti-American bullsh*t is PROTECTED by free speech...well, why didn't you say so, I'll start buying your records/movies again then." (sarcasm off). And as one post said, many of those claiming to be "country", are garage rock bands who couldn't make it in the rock world, so they water down rock songs and call them country. Sort of reminds me of some liberals who run as "Conservatives" to get elected.

I guess the Dixie Chix have just become too sophisticated for the country music fans who have made them all rich. Hope their next performance is in a Karaoke bar in Lubbock, not that I would really wish that on the Karaoke fans in Lubbock

And as for snotty little Miss Natalie: I'd like to see her say the same thing in a roadside bar in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She'd be diving behind the chicken wire for sure.

At a concert in London earlier this week, Natalie Maines, the band's lead singer said, " Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."Pretty brave of Natalie to make that statement in a foreign land. I wonder if she would do the same in Dallas or Nashville?
I heard Laura Ingraham say yesterday that Natalie had made this statement after the tickets for their U.S. tour had sold out. I'd guess it was time for a refund. Maybe they could book a tour in France.
