I work in DC & I've known people who commute in from Berkeley Springs WV. We have several pople coming in from far-western Maryland. It's a hike, and gas is high right now, but there's plenty of work around here.

I own a Filter Queen, and I'm not surprised that HealthMore Inc. (FilterQueen) is engaged in deceptive practices. It is the best vacuum I've ever had, but their policy and practice on maintainence of my machine was initially deceptive.

They offered a free cleaning each year for the first 3 years I owned my machine. This "free" service consisted of basic maintainence I could have performed myself. They cleaned the chrome parts of the machine, the brush on the floor attachment and changed the filters. Here was the catch: after the first year, the service wasn't really free. Due to an encounter with an honest service man, I discovered he was required to fix something and charge for it even was nothing wrong with my machine. He was told he could not leave without collecting. Since then, I've found a man locally who works on them, and I've never taken advantage of another "Free Cleaning."

Be glad you avoided this "business opportunity."

Ok, I know this might seem a little bit of a wait since my last update but I've been busy. I have placed resumes at at least 20 companies. Of course the wait is the hardest part. I did get to talk to a few people with power who seemed very interested. The first was a lady who owned an ISP who is not hiring but outsources all her web page building and said she'll pass along any she thinks I could handle. She also asked if she could pass my resume on to a friend of hers that might be hiring. The second was a manager of a Radio Shack. He wants me to go to a open house Radio Shack is having in Steubenville Tuesday night where he said they are interviewing for positions in the area. I'll be heading there then and will let you know.

Thank you all for the prayers.

Nick

Patience, and I'm happy to offer prayers.
Just remember God is control, and as long as you rest entirely on Him you'll be well (maybe not rich - but well). Here's praying that good opportunities come their way.

My prayers go out to you. I know you need a decent paying job now, but you might want to do some soul searching too. Maybe this is an opportunity for you to go after what REALLY interests you.

A job which pays the bills is always welcome, but right now is the time in your life when you will have the least amount of responsibility. Try not to get locked into something you really don't enjoy because it'll pay the bills. Later, when you have a house and kids it's so much harder to make a change. I know desperate times call for desperate measures, but keep your eyes open and maybe you'll find your way to something new.

Things are moving, Nick. Congratulations.

Remember, as happened to me, you may choose or be offered something and feel that it's not exactly right, but it may just be bridge to the great thing that will be revealed. Everything is not clear at once in this world

It's all about faith, which is believing without seeing

Keep us posted and keep up the good work

Don't despair Nick. My husband was in the same situation one month before we got married. He worked for a steel company in Houston right in the middle of the oil bust in Texas...he got laid off. We did ALOT of praying and he got a job in another town one week before our wedding. We were a little tight on money and had no honeymoon, but everything worked out. We'll be praying for you and keep your chin up...there's something out there for you.

Been there; done that; got the t-shirt...
Only advice I can give you is (for what its worth)
.. get a job doing something you enjoy doing, money being secondary.
.. buck it up and don't give up; persistence is the key.
Best of luck.

"...wasted a full week in pursuit of nothing..."
OH, hell, now. That ain't nothing.
I've wasted more time than that trying to figure out what I did with my danged clothes.
You just got to keep-on keeping-on !
Jobs are out there - you just have to have an edge on the competition.

here's another update:

I did go to the Radio Shack interview. That was a week ago. Since then war has broke out and the world is a different place. I still don't have a job however. Radio Shack is telling me that they have still not hired anyone and the guy I have spoke to is saying he is waiting for word on how many positions to hire for. I have an interview at Adecco tomorrow, a temp agancy. Anybody have info on those?

I do have one other option that my aunt is trying to stress to me. She says to get a part-time job and go to college full-time. Her logic is that the longer I go to school trying to get a 2 year degree in 3 or 4 years and maybe longer the less I'll enjoy life and a decent pay. One way, going to college full time, will only have me penny pinching 2 years then at least having a chance at a better job sooner. The other way I have to juggle constantly to get school in and it takes longer to accomplish my goal of completing college. Of course going full-time to college will mean getting larger school loans and grants to supplement my income. What do you guys think? I am sure I have messed up the arguments for and against this but FReepers are smart enough to get my point I'm sure. Thanks for all the prayers.

PS I went yesterday to watch a church program called Heavens Gates and Hell's Flames and have to say it rocks. The church I went to has reported over 100 saved each night its played and have extended it I believe two nights so far due to people having to turn away because there has been no parking left. Absolutly amazing. I redeicated my life afterwards because I know I have been getting lukewarm here recently. It's a real eyeopener.

Nick

Blessings.

God's comfort be yours.

Even in the "silences of God" may His Spirit sustain you.

I'm praying for you. I just know that the delay was for a better job.
Let go and let God, the way you've shown your faith in Him by this post. (and may we both quit being afraid.)

I say, get the part-time job and go with the loans and the grants. You can borow a little more to supplement your liing expenses, and you can get done more quickly. The interest rate on those loans is really low, so it can be a ood deal if you budget properly. My daughter took out a loan for her last year of school, and it really helped her get through more quickly.

That is my practical opinioin, but I also think prayer will help you come to the right decision. Please let me know what you decide.
