In an e-mail to her family on Feb. 7, two weeks after her arrival in the Gaza Strip, Rachel Corrie wrote that "no amount of reading, attendance at conferences, documentary viewing . . . could have prepared me for the reality of the situation here."

Again, conservatives value human life but acknowledge that the taking of human life is sometimes necessary. There is nothing inconsistent with this statement whether the girl is viewed as innocent or not. I'm not debating her actions but rather the celebration by some, not all, of her death. The Journal quote posted earlier eloquently states my own view that its a shame that she died but shameful the way she lived. Isn't it enough to leave it at that and move-on?

The Best of the Web on Opinion Journal says that Corrie was at fault for the accident that occurred when she either stood or crouched in front of a moving bull dozer. They ended the report with this sentence.

It's a shame that Rachel Corrie died the way she did. It's shameful that she lived the way she did.

"Very unfortunate. This little idiot may have eventually grown up and made something of herself.
Now all she gets for her trouble is her own funeral and her name printed on a bunch of anti-war signs."

And don't forget she also gets several threads on FR eulogizing her.

That doesn't like a U.S. flag to me. In fact it doesn't even look like a flag at all. It looks like a piece of paper where some child had used crayons to write a bunch of stars.

The expression on her face makes her appear to be quite angry about something.

May she rest in piece.

I appreciate the cordial debate and strong challenges. I'm off to participate in some capitalism and look forward to future discussions.

I did not "curse" Canada, nor Canadians... I curse--if that word is to be use--the French pigs who are ruining your "reputation" with America. But, that said, do you expect me to believe all the America-bashing coming from Canada is being done soley by French poltroons and their whores?

"If you can understand people who are different than you, you can help resolve the conflict."

============================

God rest her soul, but how misguided. The people who are different than us want to kill us. The only way to resolve it is to convert to Islam. You don't deal with a Yasser Arafat or Osama bin Laden --- you kill them before they kill you. The crap they are teaching in college is what got her killed. Oh, if we could have just understood Hitler.............

It's hard to disagree with your sentiments, noble as they are (and I'm not being facetious,) but this here is an agora, a marketplace and you can't control who'll show up and what they'll say, and thankfully, JimRob chooses a conservative approach to censorship. Jokes will flow, just like they did during the Phil Spector affair and other similar events. If this weren't St Paddies day, I'd run to my pub later this evening to hear the tasteless jokes the barkeep might have (this being St Paddies he knows better than to share them with a large audience.)

Worse than the bad one-liners is, I think, moral posturing, exaggerated piousness, sanctimonioussness and condemenations to eternal damnation as some (not you) like to do and did on that last night thread I mentioned!

I really enraged one poster last night to the point of him hitting the abuse bottom and pinging JimRob when I suggested tongue in cheek that the girl didn't have very much to live anyway because after the coming revolution, she, like all revolution's children, will be among the first ones devoured. The enraged poster took it to mean a conservative, "our" revolution, when there were enough clues in the post to suggest I was referring to the revolution that she and her cohorts were working on bringing about. The outraged poster's subsequent outburst was among the most violent I have ever read here!

Not too be too much more cynical than I usually am, but will there be an autopsy to see if she was on drugs at the time?

I agree with the poster who said that if she had been crushed by the dozer, she'd have already been in the ground. I think it might be more likely that she did a Len Bias. Stressed out while on drugs, then her heart stopped.

On the other side is my 21-year-old daughter who is married to a young man aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT, lives on Whidbey Island, works two waitress jobs, and is studying to be a physical therapist. She finds disgusting what the peace pukes are doing. She was raised to recognize good and evil, right and wrong, and has not allowed liberal professors to brainwash her. I feel so badly for the parents of this misguided young woman who lost her way. I would be furious with the creeps who put the crap ideas in her head --- undoubtedly college professors.

Her parents taught her all about hating this beloved country of ours. Did they teach her to hate the jewish people too?

Yes, none of her education prepared her for the necessity of staying out of the way of large machinery.

Rachel Corrie (shown at the 2002 Burning Man festival), was remembered by friends as being a committed peace activist.

And remembered by everyone else as a committed waffle. Who's next?

but TWICE: the driver, after plowing her into the ground, backed-up over her mangled corpse a second time... just to make sure, I guess.

I won't be cynical and suggest that it was *not* an accident. So he had to back up, perhaps he didn't even realize until after he backed up that she was under there. Who cares if they were yelling at the driver, I'm sure that's not rare when they are protesting what the drivers are doing. If she was sitting down, maybe he *didn't* see her. It's best to be standing up and visible when dealing with vehicles.

I'm not feeling sorry for the girl too much though. It's just a crying shame that these people feel they have to die to prevent others from defending themselves. Weird.
