INS Tells Marine He's Not Good Enough For Citizenship.
Fox News | 03/17/2003 | Self

Posted on 03/17/2003 12:20:00 PM PST by bluecollarman

Did anyone else hear the News Report on The Marine Sgt. on FOX news? He says INS deemed him to be of inadequate character to be a US citizen!

Marine was born in Vietnam and had some minor trouble when he was a young man, obviously the trouble was not serious enough to keep him out of the USMC but serious enough he can't be a citizen? Is there nothing we can do to help him?

I waited for someone to post this but no one did. I never have posted before so keep that in mind before you flame

The only flames are the one coming out of my butt, right now.

If has been making his way through the military establishment in an honorable way.....someone send me the name of the INS agent in charge...and the flames will all be theirs. This is deplorable action.

Nice work - and sentiments I share.

Some folks just don't get it - or they don't want to get it.

This guy is good enough to fight and die but not be a citizen and vote? This (if true) is garbage. Bush ought to fire everybody in the INS and start over from scratch.

Agreed. This is how our enemies infiltrate our insititutions.

Don't forget, two soldiers with Hispanic last names sabotaged more than 18 parachutes at a base and some soldiers were hurt by it.

He needs to contact his US Senators.

A letter from a US Senator usually leads to a fresh review of an immigration case.

The INS reverses itself when political pressure is exerted.

Florida US Senator Graham wrote a letter on behalf of one of my employees, and his citizenship application were review again and approved.

His original application to become a US citizen had been rejected, because he had a misdemeanor conviction for having been found with a marihuana cigarrette, dating back to his college days.

Yes, I saw it and took screen captures. This is FNC's Rick Leventhal(?) interviewing the Marine.

Yeah, sure... Rick Rescorla was an enemy. What were his misdeeds? Only saving a ton on lives in BOTH WTC attacks, giving his life trying to save victims of the second one - AFTER distinguished service, including the Battle of Ia Drang!

I understand your position and I say the INS wouldn't be able to distinguish the difference between a future U. S. productive citizen or Ben Ladin. The INS needs to be infiltrated with some moral character and common sense judgement.

Take the PC out of the INS and I think this Marine might make it.

I have no knowledge of this man's situation, but I've known a few Marines who became U.S. citizens. Of two that come to mind, one was a Filipino and the other was a Belizian, Belizer, Belizean, or what the heck it is that you call people from Belize. ;) They were two of the most honest and hardworking men I've ever met. They had little to go home to, and that motivated them in a way many homegrown jarheads weren't. I welcome this Marine of Vietnamese descent as my countryman. We need more people like him.

Well if it is true, hell this is pretty disgusting. We've got waves of malcontents crossing the border now as I type, but this young man decides to straighten his life out, don a uniform and give a chunk of his life for this country and he's not of good moral character? Absolutely infuriating. I was a bit of a hell raiser when I was 16 too. I have faith the USMC will take care of him. To hell with the INS, they are useless (see my second sentence). God bless him and he's in my prayers.

How is he not a citizen? If his father was, and he came over here, how can he not be?

Non-US citizens should not be members of the US armed forces -- period.

Does that go for John Paul Jones too?

"Yep, that's him. I hope he will become a citizen a lot faster now after this interview.

That's what the Marine told FNC--that he hopes the "story gets out". Thanks for posting this story.
