So why are they still part of the Christian bibles? Why was not Leviticus removed, or explicitly made into the theological equivalent of "dicta"? How about the Jews, who believe in only the Old Testament? Are these verses binding upon them? Their sabbath is Saturday. Are they called upon to stone their neighbors who work on that day?

Of course no Christians or Jews live by those words, but they are a part of scripture. To condemn Islam based upon words in its scripture is to have a double standard.

However, unfortunately, your attempt to prove that the Bible can also be quoted out of context to make Christianity appear to be a violent religion falls woefully short.  The vast majority of your quotes come from The Old Testament.  I can't speak for all denominations, but as a Catholic, I can assure you that The Old Testament is viewed as a history, and The Gospels are looked to for a code of conduct.  While I'm sure there's exceptions, I'm fairly certain that most denominations hold this view.
 
Secondly, while the koran provides us with an easily referenced static source to learn and verify that islam is a religion of violence, it's the actions of it's practitioners that bring this belief to life and constantly reinforce it. 
 
You suggest that Christianity endorses the enslavement of Blacks, but I ask you, who has done more to end slavery than Christians?  Where is slavery still practiced today- in muslim nations.

(Put in context, it says that no one can separate a Christian from the salvation of Christ.)


Abortion:

    Hosea 9:11-16 Hosea prays for God’s intervention.  “Ephraim shall
bring forth his children to the murderer.  Give them, 0 Lord: what wilt
thou give?  Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. . .Ephraim is
smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea though
they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.” 
Clearly Hosea desires that the people of Ephraim can no longer have
children.  God of course obeys by making all their unborn children
miscarry.  Is not terminating a pregnancy unnaturally “abortion”?

    Numbers 5:11-21 The description of a bizarre, brutal and abusive
ritual to be performed on a wife SUSPECTED of adultery.  This is
considered to be an induced abortion to rid a woman of another man’s child.

Numbers 31:17 (Moses) “Now therefore kill every male among the little
ones, and kill every women that hath known man by lying with him.”  In
other words: women that might be pregnant, which clearly is abortion for
the fetus.

Hosea 13:16 God promises to dash to pieces the infants of Samaria and
the “their women with child shall be ripped up”.  Once again this god
kills the unborn, including their pregnant mothers.

1 Samuel 15:16 God allows the pregnant women of Tipsah to be “ripped
open”. And the Christians have the audacity to say god is pro-life. How
and the hell is it that Christians can read passages where God allows
pregnant women to be murdered, yet still claim abortion is wrong?

This literally means that the children god killed were still nursing.

served us.  Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones

very bluntly this poor, young lady was murdered by her father for being
raped.

Exodus 12:29 God killed, intentionally, every first-born child of every
family in Egypt, simply because he was upset at the Pharaoh.  And god
caused the Pharaoh’s actions in the first place.  Since when is it
appropriate to murder children for their ruler’s forced action?

Exodus 20:9-10 God commands death for cursing out ones parents Joshua 8
God commanded the deaths of 12,000 men, women, and children of Ai. 
They were all slain in the ambush that was planned by god.

2 Kings 2:23-24 The prophet Elisha, was being picked on by some young
boys from the city because of his bald head.  The prophet turned around
and cursed them in the Lords name.  Then, two female bears came out of
the woods and killed forty-two of them.  You would think that God could
understand that sometimes the youthful make childish jokes.  Calling
someone “bald head” is far from being worthy of death.

Leviticus 26:30 “And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh
of your daughters shall ye eat.”

1 Samuel 15:11-18 God repents of having made Saul king since Saul
refused to carry out God’s commandments (i.e., Saul refused to murder all
the innocent women and children.)  At least god realizes what an immoral,
murderous pig he is on this one.

I Kings 16:34 Laying the foundation for a city using your firstborn
child and using your youngest son to set up the gates.

Isaiah 13:15-18 If God can find you, he will “thrust you through,”
smash your children “to pieces” before your eyes, and rape your wife.

Jeremiah 11:22-23 God will kill the young men in war and starve their
children to death.

Jeremiah 19:7-9 God will make parents eat their own children, and
friends eat each other.

Lamentations 2:20-22 God gets angry and mercilessly torments and kills
everyone, young and old.  He even causes women to eat their children.

Genesis 22:9 & 10 “And they came to the place which God had told him of
and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound
Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.  And Abraham
stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.”  It
matters not that god let Moses get out of murdering Isaac.  To put a knife up
to your son’s throat is child abuse.

I Kings 3:24-25 “And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought
a sword before the king.  And the king said, Divide the living child in
two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.  “This test was
of course given to see who the real mother of the child was.  Christians
view this king as a wise man.  I look upon his suggestion with far more
revulsion then I give accredit to Susan Smith.

Proverbs 13:24, 19:18, 22:15, 23:13-14 & 29:15 God commands repeatedly
that you beat your children.

Matthew 19:29 If you really loved Jesus then he insists that you
abandon your wife and children for him.  Only that way will he allow you to
go to heaven.  (That is if you meet his other hefty requirements, don’t
slip through the loopholes, and ignore the contradictions.)
28   And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29   And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
30   But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
(You interpretation is demonstratably wrong.  Jesus is speaking to his 12 disciples [sit upon twelve thrones] and in fact finishes the chapter with first shall be last and last shall be first, indicating that all followers, be they disciples who have given up all or the simplest who have faith will be admitted into The Kingdom of Heaven.)

Mark 7:9 Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient
children according to Old Testament law.
(I'm assuming you mean Mark 7:10, 9 being an ending of a passage related to the laws of Kosher.)
10   For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11   But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
12   And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
(The entire passage is a parable Jesus is using to illustrate that it's not what you take in that counts but what your actions are.  He does not say to kill disobedient children but to disown those who curse their parents.)


blahblahblahblah.  Religion is not "proved" or disproved by taking
lines out of a holy book out of context.  That is an exercise in propaganda
and in stupidity.

For instance, take a commonly used quote from the Qu’ran that is used
as proof that it is violent:

“...slay (enemies] wherever you find them!" -- (4: 89).

Indeed, this line does look extremely violent.  It is difficult to
imagine a viable explanation for such a statement.  Indeed, can there even
be such a justification?  Well, let us take a look at the following
line:

"Thus, if they let you be, and do not make war on you, and offer you
peace, God does not allow you to harm them.” -- (4: 90).

The idea that this is “proof” that Islam is violent then is
preposterous.  The second line is crucial to the message of the text; even in
times of war, soldiers must observe the laws of compassion and reason as
dictated by the Qu’ran.  One wonders why pundits like Jerry Falwell and
Ann Coulter do not come across these lines in their search for the
truth:

"Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress
limits; for Allah loves not transgressors." – (2:190)

Do not "take life -- which God has made sacred -- except for just
cause. And if anyone is slain wrongfully, we have given his heir authority"
to demand justice for the death or to forgive it. "But let him not
exceed bounds in the matter of taking life; for he is helped [by the Law]." 
-- Surah 17

Interestingly enough, i registered at freerepublic as proislam_admin,
and my posting priveliges were "revoked" before I had replied to even
one of the posters on the threads which you linked me on.  I was
disappointed, but not surprised.  I was surprised, however, to learn that they
did not pull your post immeditely, although I did notice there were no
live links to it, and it was only accessible (to me, at least) by a
direct html address.

I read through the posts (on both threads), and I was very disappointed
to see the level of vitriol and narrow-mindedness among most of the
members of freerepublic.  I had a dozen responses to post, but I will not
be able to do so.  It is unfortunate that you cannot get a moderate
muslim perspective on that board, and that you must rely on your own
limited understanding and impressions of islam, no doubt nurtured by a
hostile media.

Also, I am awaiting your response to my last email.  I hope that my
efforts to persuade you that cut-and-paste "proof" of quar'anic verses is
an unjust way of portraying the religion.  I am wondering what you
thought of my comments.

In any case, good luck in your search for the truth.

    In regards to your posting privileges being suspended, while only the admins know for sure, I suspect your IP address was recognized as that of someone who has been banned several times before.  As you can see, there are indeed dissenting opinions on FreeRepublic, but as one would expect, a majority hold a similar opinion.
 
    I do want to compliment you on your being able to maintain a civil tone while defending your faith (not an easy thing to do by any stretch).  However, as I've previously mentioned, a rational, civil, non-violent muslim, who wishes to live in harmony with those of other faiths is indeed fighting an uphill battle.  The perception that islam is a religion of hate and violence is not only reinforced by the many quotes I listed, but again and again when acts of violence are committed in the name of the religion.
    I, for one, would suggest condemnation by the muslim community of such acts, but we see few.  Instead we see calls for increased protection of muslims from hate crimes (as CAIR is doing even now).  That's certainly not the way to win acceptance from an already leery American public.
 
    If your aim is to promote a civil, peaceful, harmonious vision of islam, as your text on the koranic verses implies, then I wish you the best of luck.  However, I'd suggest establishing this idea, irrefutably within the muslim community before trying to convince the rest of the American public of its legitimacy.

The Old Testament does not condone or encourage persecuting people who are not Jews. It sets aside the Holy Land for the Jews and warns Jews not to adopt the practises of pagans living around them. Although it appears to approve killing non-Jews who were pagans, that was limited in time and place to the conquest of the Holy Land.

The Old Testament also enjoins Jews not to persecute or oppress the stranger among them because they were once strangers in the land of Egypt.

On the contrary, the Quran and Mohammad, unlike either the Old or New Testament, enjoins Muslims to oppress unbelievers EVERYWHERE, to force the non-believer to convert to Islam, to kill anyone who attempts to convert a Muslim to another faith, and to kill any Muslim who so converts. Islam divides the entire world into the "House of Peace", those areas already Islamicized where the unbelievers are relegated to a subordinate status and suitably oppressed, and the "House of War", the rest of the world yet to be overrun by Muslims.

An COulter is correct in all her criticisms of thsi cult masquerading as a religion.

Obviously he has never seen any of the creationism/evolution threads or christianity/atheism threads. Opposing viewpoints are permitted on FR but the tone in which those statements are made determines whether a poster can remain.

There are some who disagree with President Bush on a variety of issues but when a DUsrupter starts using talking points calling him "Mr. Bush", "Bush Jr." (he was not a Junior but Algore was), talking about "Bush's daddy's war", "wasn't elected", etc. it is just a cover for their venom. We've probably all seen a ZOTed poster or two who claims "I'll never vote for Bush again!" (when it is obvious from their posts that they never voted for him in the first place).

This is a conservative forum and does have genuine conversations on issues. It does not need to entertain every socialist's post of already countered talking points.

I would say that it is possible that this thread may eventually wind up deleted. I've seen one thread I was active on deleted because the AM said that interwebsite posting wasn't productive. I think that things are civil on this thread; I have not been to the other site but if there is not particularly increased traffic/posting there, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

I'm still interested in hearing what this man has to say about the various statements I posted from the Imams at Ask the Imam. Islam Q&A seems consistant on some of the issues (I have not looked through their responses as much). Would the operator care to distance himself from those forums? This is not a matter of taking statements from the koran out of context.
