Report from the Anti-War - the Los Angeles Front
3/20/03 | JohnDinLA

Posted on 03/20/2003 10:25:45 PM PST by JohnDinLA

So I ventured out to the protest in Westwood and I was surprised by what I found. Rationally thinking people! And I saw lots of them... dressed in blue uniforms and wielding batons!

And then of everyone else, I spoke with pacifists, a Palestinian, a Jew, a true pinko communist who, I have to say hated America, and some other people who ran every level of hating America to possible convert to our side.

But what I found is that in every discussion, a small crowd gathered round to listen to what was discussed! This is promising! (I'm an optimist). I believe if we can get more of us out there who can logically debate this war and its merits that we can make some of these people change their minds! It won't happen overnight, but it will happen, I'm sure. The war will probably be over by the time we get a convert, but we still have to try.

You have to be able to take insults, accusations and deal with some really paranoid people, but it can be intelectually stimulating and challenging... and most importantly, you have to be patient.

I encourage everyone to get out there and start talking. There are those who will never believe the truth (for instance, my dyed in the wool pinko thinks Castro is a good guy, the Chinese never had a place called Tienamen Square and the Russians just wanted to be loved by the U.S.) but there are those who can definitely be converted with some facts!

So find your local protest and get out there!

Good for you. The only anarchist types I have seen would never listen to the truth, much less convert!

Given the fact that there are 12 *million* people in LA and Orange counties, a few hundred showing up on Wilshire Blvd to protest the war actually makes Southern California look pretty damn good.

More people attend high school football games than showed up to this event......Hehehe...

Yup... the pro-Saddam Left here is not getting the traction it hoped would build with the onset of this war.

I think I'll be out tomorrow, waving an old Soviet flag with the sickle and hammer... should look good on the local news.

They're not happy because they aren't going to get a bunch of dead Iraqi civilians like they were counting on.

With all due respect, it's hard to hold out hope for those who must hate America at all costs.

True.

I wouldn't hold out much hope of convincing people who volunteer to try the famed LAPD "choke hold" of anything.
