Check out the guy's grin too.
He's got his sandal up there with a huge grin on his face.
Sure hope we got Saddam and his sons.
That guy is a marked man now, if Saddam's thugs find him.

SVD Dragunov. 7.62 x 54R rimmed cartridge; ballistically similar to a 30-06. The action is pretty much a scaled-up AK w/ 10 round box magazine.

With the right ammo, capable of 1000 meter center of mass man-sized shots. Even with broken-up machine gun ammo, capable of well-placed center of mass hits at 400 meters plus. Still in production in the former USSR and China.

I saw the video of this - and I was struck by the way the guy kept looking over his shoulder the whole time he was hitting the picture. To me, he wasn't quite sure it was safe to do that to Saddam. The look of fear was so obvious.

From my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow: "What does God require of us? 'To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God' (Micah 6:8)". From what I've seen so far our soldiers are doing this, and It will hopefully result in a long-lasting and just peace. (As long as the politicians don't muck it up!)

God bless our troops and their families and loved ones at home as well. This is so clearly a war of liberation. I'm so thankful American power is freeing these people. I hope our power frees the North Koreans as well.

And I hope America from this day forward ignores the U.N. completely.

Thanks for the info. I've shot the 30-06 at 500 yards, target was bigger than human COM, but that was with peep sights. 1000 yards would be wonderful. I don't think the AK's 7.62X39 can reach that far accurately. If I recall reading something by Cooper years ago, the effective accurate range of the 7.62X39 was more on the order of 300-400 yards while that same article gave both the .308 and the 30-06 about an 800 yard effective range. I don't recall what the effective range of the .223 was, but I have seen them at 600 yard matches. They were accurate, though I'm not sure how much zip the projectile has at that point. I'm pulling this from my old, weak memory so use the appropriate grain of salt. :)
