Thank you!

OK, let me get this straight. The "UNited Way" refuses to back the Boy Scouts because of court decisions THEY didn't agree with, YET, they are now refusing to back this pathetic piece of garbage? Are we suppose to be thankful to them for these crumbs??? The UNited Way can shut up and sit down now!!!

You want to raise money to destroy the Boy Scouts?????
The United Way can go eat dirt. They don't get 1 red cent from this freeper!

Oh, I definitely agree with you in principal.
On our local United Way donation card, we were able to designate which recipient organizations were to get our money as opposed to just a general contribution. Not only do we contribute DIRECTLY to the local Scout councils, but I went out of my way to send a donation to the local United Way with ONLY the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts checked off on the donation card, along with a letter of explanation as to why I was doing that. I totally agree that one can vote (or unvote!) with one's pocketbook, BUT....... at least in this area, the United Way organizers apparently get the message that they'd be NOT popular if they tried to de-fund the area scouting organizations.

Bet her mom would have agreed to speak for free.
When is this deluded leftie going to listen to her mom?

"The United Way of Tampa Bay was to feature the 56-year-old actress as keynote speaker at an April 11 women's leadership event designed to inspire volunteerism in the community."
Hmmmmm.......Now I wonder what gave the United Way the impression that Susan Sarandon wouldn't be a good role model for women's leadership and volunteerism? Could it be because she's NOT?!

Am I reading between the lines correctly: liberal journalist ensures that family member gets lucrative speaking fee, which keeps money in the family, rigged sytem ensures that a cut of public's charity money flows to (and thereby supports) known liberal mouthpiece. Conservative speakers don't have a chance.

Be sure to include a note regarding exactly why you were inspired to make a donation. I say kill 'em with kindness. They'll probably be amazed.

Well, as far as principles go, Tampa United Way has NONE!
My principles tell me to dontate to the Salvation Army and the HIBISCUS House for children and flip the bird to the United Way every chance I get.
Dumping Saradon was a political move to keep from alienating half their big money donators. No principle, ethics or warm fuzzyness to that decision. They play politics with your donation no matter what you check off on a piece of paper.

Right on, JSP1. Besides the fact most of their money goes to their "administrative costs" regardless of what they say... And, how many times have their top "officials" been caught with their hands in the cookie jar and extra money found in THEIR pockets??? If you want to help someone, do it directly or through a church or whatever! Not these con artists!!! And, I felt that way BEFORE they screwed our wonderful boys!

This decision is grounded in my lifelong personal and professional belief that our civic life is made stronger by the expression of all views, including ones that are controversial," Petty wrote in a letter to Carson. Yes, but only socialists believe someone else should pay for their soapbox. Sarandon has a right to her opinion, but not the right to regurgitate it all over a United Way function, and that was obviously their concern. It was their right to disinvite Ms. Saranwrap, for whatever reason they saw fit.
BTW - Someone should ask this a-hole AND Saranwrap and her boyish beau how many conservatives have lost jobs in Hollywood because fascists like them are so dedicated to intellectual diversity.

At my workplace we get the United Way talk every year. (Except we call it the "Combined Federal Campaign".) I give the minimum amount per pay period because the United Way organization collects an 8 percent fee from monies collected. I'd rather write a check directly to my chosen charity.
My workplace used to really twist employees' arms on this. One year I didn't give anything, and the campaign supervisor called me aside to ask why. They're a lot more diplomatic now. They give you coffee and cookies and you feel guilty if you don't donate something!
