that's what I meant. It's not heavy water in those drums - it's something active.

Reported here first, before Fox.

I beleive that the initial report was last night. Someone posted a story from, I beleive, a Pittsburg newspaper's web site. Here is the link. I don't know which came out first, but Fox started reporting it today and I saw it here last night.

Thanks for the back up, and ofcourse they also have the many acres above ground that we can see the "roofs" of the buildings and who knows (so far) what is underground.

Plutonium burns. Mix chunks with a high-temperature combustant like thermite and you might get plutonium-oxide soot wafting into the atmosphere

I'm just guessing, but based on plutonium's mass, I don't think it would waft very far. So far, Anthrax seems to have gotten the most terror for the buck, in terms of disruption of everyday life.

I'm holding off on pinging our worthless paleocon "friends" until confirmation.

Good idea, seeing as how it's Fox "When in Doubt, Put it Out" News.

Far enough. Plutonium oxide can be a VERY fine dust--most of the Savannah River MUF is plutonium that ain't EVER getting out of the plumbing.

The record of embeddeds who are not qualified at all to assess WMD claims, interacting with US military personnel low on the chain of command in the field (who I am sure are fine, qualified folk at their level but they really aren't careful about what they say or claim, or how its interpreted) has been pretty bad so far; but not because of any malicious lying or fabrication, of course.

I agree with you completely. But as I mentioned before I think in most cases the reporters from all networks do a nice job of adding qualifiers ("possibly," "suspected") when reporting. It's the professional approach. But we often skip over or misinterpret those words in our excitement.

I like the idea of telling the U.N to go away. I especially like the idea of telling hollywood that the U.N. and the peace movement weren't even a bit effective at preventing Adolf Jr. from doing whatsoever he wishes.

Me too. However the thought of Saddam distributing weapons grade plutonium to Al Qeada scares the hell out of me. Much more than the satisfaction of an "I told you so".

They really ought to stop calling things "Breaking News", opting for the far more appropriate "Breaking Outlandish Rumor".

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. How often has FOX claimed we've found something, turning out to be a dud? Im my opinion, they've lost an enormous amount of credibility. I still prefer them over the others, but during the war, I've found MSNBC has been the most objective of all of the News Stations. FOX should think about their quality control - it's more important to get the information out right, than first. I think you're right. FOX has jumped the gun far too many times while trying to be "first" with information, no matter how inaccurate. The big problem is that the headline on the site says "Underground Nuke Lab Found", when we don't really know what exactly it is yet. They're getting far too sensationalistic with their headlines. First there was anthrax in southern Iraq. Turned out to be not true. Then there was sarin. Turned out not to be true. Then there was a whole assortment of chemicals in Baghdad. Turned out not to be true. I'm in "wait-and-see" mode until this all plays out.
