Please call and fax your State Representative today, and tell them to support fair congressional lines for Texas.
Help eradicate Rep. Martin Frost.

This was looked at before the session started and it is thought that there are not enough votes, will, nor backbone to get it done.
Thoughts gentlemen?

Republicans tend to feel insecure and consequently some will not give up their 60% Republican districts for 54 or 55%. Is this the problem?
Democrats are much more into helping other democrats, IMO. They're not so insecure regarding not having a huge advantage.

It will pass the House. The problem are Rodney King Republicans in the Senate. Its hard convincing them to act like a majority party, damnit.

Republicans were used to being bossed around in Texas by Democrats. They won't make the switch overnight.

Votes? What % does it take to pass?In the Senate, because of the "Rose Bush Relocation Bill" it takes 21 of 31 to get it to the floor.

All I can tell you is that the SREC is putting PLENTY of pressure on to get this done!
More pressure never hurts however!

Frost is like a tick, dislodging him will take some doing. I'm calling my rep. I hope everyone else does the same.

My thoughts are to fire up the freeper lobby and get this thing through the Senate. This is not just a Texas issue, but a national one that will add 5 seats to our membership in the House by the stroke of a pen. That means we must identify the shaky votes in the Senate (my guesses are that they will be Wentworth, Ratliff, and Duncan) and jam their phone lines, email boxes, and mail slots with everything we've got. We can be perfectly polite about it and work through the proper channels of activism, but truly shake them up with a message that Republicans of Texas and the nation are watching.
In short, they will need a full scale nationwide freeping to push this thing through. But first, let's take care of the House which looks a surer bet right now. Once it passes the House - and I am confident it will - we will have the momentum to use against the Senate.

Oh, and one more thing on this battle - It's too important to risk, so please try to keep Mr. Dan Patrick Goeb under control down there ;-)

http://gis1.tlc.state.tx.us/ http://gis1.tlc.state.tx.us/ Ok, Tom DeLays congressional redistricting map is up and out on the Texas Legislative Councils site. The link is above. Click on the redviewer they call it. Click on the box that says "All other Redistricting Plans" then the plan # is C 01163 or Crabbs plan(the state rep who is sponsering it for DeLay) You might have to pan up on the main page to find the "all other redistricting plans" box. The screen will do a split screen kind of a deal without you KNOWING there is more below both sections.(at least it does this on my monitor)?

What if the Governor of Texas before Perry gets on the phone and calls a Republican State Senator?
Uh, yes, uh, CERTAINLY!
To: HoustonCurmudgeon
I don't understand. Under what circumstance does this 21/31 apply? Just doesn't seem very democratic.
