In the excerpted part of the article, it suggest Voinovich and Snowne are being "villified." I don't see any evidence of that by and large. I have doubts about as large a tax cut as Bush wants myself. In any event, I suspect Jeffords is simply projected his own twisted saga onto others whom, while perhaps somewhat moderate, are not Benedict Arnolds, try to be team players consistent with their own consciences and good judgment, and at bottom, find little that is attractive about the current state of the Democrat party. OK, maybe I'm projecting, but that is the way I see it.

But Jeffords brings something else to mind. Since he is no longer a republican, how is he going to get re-elected from a conservative voting state if he is a liberal and has to run against a real Bush backing conservative? Good luck and good bye Jim!

Vermont a conservative voting state? The state that elects Bernie the socialist?

Yes Jim, and you're a prime example of what happens to people who abandon their principles, they end up being an "independent" with no friends.

I'm not as angry at Snow and Voinavich as some around here, but I think they're being silly and not approaching this in a smart manner. They could still get their spending concessions without looking like they are totally against tax cuts.

Frist needs to stand up more.

That is Jefford's view. The article was written from Jefford's point of view, reflecting what he was saying, "warning" the GOP.

Jeffords, why does than name sound familiar? Didn't there use to be a Senator named Jeffords who became utterly irrelevant when the Republicans took back the Senate?

Maybe Olympia J. Snowe and George V. Voinovich are in talks with Jeffords to become full rats?

I've never understood just how this can happen. What about the VOTERS who elected Snowe & Voinovich (and Jeffers as well)? Doesn't switching parties after an election basically cause their votes to be null and void? I wondered this even when the switch was from Dem to GOP like Ben Whitehorse Johnson or whatever his name is. This kind of thing allows the unelected party to use threats and ultimately to rule. Isn't there some kind of law that could be used to prevent it?

Sorry! The attack ads shook up Voinovich (there isn't much there there to wake up Snow), and even better, it warned the Republican senators (a sorry lot if there ever was one) that the rank-and-file were paying attention. If the effort continues it could really shake-up the Republican Party. For example, conservatives in Arizona are pleading for a TV campaign to attack McCain on his miserable record on taxes. (His attempt to suborn the Constitution on free speech issues would be another matter.)

not-too-subtle words of advice... Don't forget what happened the last time you tried this.

The public will go nuts if this happens again. The Democrats are welcome to win all the elections they can, but coupes d'etat are not welcome in the United States. They will find out just how unwelcome in 2004 if they try it.

I want to apologize. THis loser Jeffords is my state's senator, along with that socialist Leaky Leahy. I never voted for him. He stands for nothing except Jim Jeffords.

Could be.

You know, Jeffords is just making noise. He's of a declining breed, those snobby liberal Republicans that have since retired or been chased out of office by the RATS. Just look at the prospective list of pickups:

Georgia
South Carolina
North Carolina
Florida
Nevada
South Dakota
Arkansas

Not exactly the prime breeding ground for RINOs. The writing's on the wall, I say.

"Just never seen that word used before. My spell checker does not like it either."

I don't see why not. It's a perfectly cromulent word.
