A statewide survey of 500 registered, likely voters conducted on May 6-7, 2003 shows that President Bush would defeat Joe Lieberman, John Kerry or Richard Gephardt if the Presidential election were being held today. The margin or error for a survey of 500 likely voters is +/- 4.36%.

Oh, thank G-d!!! I thought I was going to have to move out of this state (New Jersey), but maybe the bulk of the population is finally beginning to pay attention!

Sad to say, but at least Bush won a few counties in New Jersey last time, although he lost the state by 11 points, if not more. He failed to carry A SINGLE county in Connecticut. I guess Litchfield County is more dominated by expatriate Hollyweirders than I once thought.

Friends of mine have lived outside Boston for 12 years now and swear they rarely meet anyone who is NOT Catholic.

Sounds like where I grew up on Lawn Guyland (NYC suburbs), although there were Jews in some of the nearby towns. You'd sooner meet a Klingon where I grew up as meet a Protestant.

Yeah, it's disgusting up here, isn't it? I guess you're right about Litchfield County - I really don't know what the makeup of that area is anymore (we're technically in Hartford County - pure 'RAT country).

Well, WE voted for Dubya in 2000... 2004 will be interesting. I would guess that President Bush wins at least one county in CT in '04, unless the economy tanks (even more than it has).

It's almost 18 months before the election and the democrat slander machine hasn't started working.

Not to mention Disney Studios and Michael Moore...

Well Dustin Hoffman, Glenn Close, Meryl Streep and countless other Hollywood types call Litchfield County home, with the town of Roxbury being a particular fave. Lots of Entertainment industry executives have "country houses" there too. From what I understand, it is sort of like the Hamptons without a beach.

BTW: I'm no expert on the Nutmeg state. Beyond Fairfield, Connecticut might as well be Massachusetts to me. ;-)

My little conservative town --- which has an unpaid Mayor and Council who don't run on any party platform ---- who used to be staunchly conservative, went for Gore. Gads! It must have been the SoccerMoms, or they caught the liberal bug from arty Montclair.

what the...

Something to conider is that NJ is a distinct state stuck in between the orbit of NYC and philly. A good percantage of the populace are "weekday" urbanites, and these people usually cause sdo much ruckus durng elections that no one really bothers to opposse them. When energized however the (full-time) suburban and rural folks can do really surprising things in the state.

Remember that NJ is the most densely populated patch of earth on the planet (yes, we beat out China AND india), with a strange semi-rural environment. We truly are a queer little state and can be shifted very wildly, however there is the NYC, philly axis which no one really tries to fight and generelly Jerseyites end up screwed by it.

I was SHOCKED, SHOCKED I TELL YOU when my father's hometown of Newark, my mom's hometown of Jersey City and the city of my birth (New Brunwick) went for Gore by double digit margins /sarcasm.

I was just plain pissed off that my home county (Nassau, where I was raised) in New York went for Clinton twice, then the Goreon, despite once being one of the most Republican counties in the state.

HUH? I didn't know that! I do know the crowds in China --- even in the rural boonies, but I never gave a thought to the comparison. WOW!

I want to use that "Huh" again. When there are polls asking people for their opinion, aside from the usual categorys slots ---"Would you vote for/not sure/would not --- there should be a 'HUH?' slot.

Cautionary note...This is early in the election cycle.Don't be lulled into complacency!(I am enjoying myself nevertheless!)

So am I. Also you're right. I plan to work hard for Bush next year.

Don't forget Dems ASSUMED blacks would come out enmasse Nov 2002 because their votes were STOLEN in 2000. Obviously they didn't.

CNBC did a Monday morning (yesterday) poll asking the question: When would you like to see Hillary run for President?

2004, 2008 or Never

74% of the responders voted "NEVER," the remaining 26% were nearly evenly split between 2004 and 2008 (14% and 12%).

Joe Kernen announced that over 10,000 people responded to the poll, the greatest number in the history of their daily poll---way more than the former highest number.
