Operation Infinite FReep in Fresno, California (5-16-03)

There were ten FReepers/patriots at tonight's FReep of the peaceniks in Fresno, California. Those regulars who were able to make it tonight were:

About a dozen peaceniks protested the War Against Terrorism, President Bush, and pretty much anything that is in the best interest of America, across the street from us tonight. We had read on Peace Fresno's web site that they were giving it up for a while, but it appears that they are building their numbers back up week after week. We must be sure that we continue to counter-protest them as long as they continue to show up each week.

The peaceniks were holding up a few new signs tonight that I thought you might be interested in. One rather humerous one said, "Stop Mad Cowboy Disease". Another said, "Freedom....Saddam Out....Now America Out". One man was holding a sign that said, "Respect...All Nations Own Their Resources". Still another new sign said, "Lies....No WoMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction?)...No Osama...No Saddam". Finally there was one that just said, "Resist".

It was a beautiful evening for FReeping. The weather was just perfect and Fresno was definitely supporting its president and the troops.

Don't feel bad, Columbia MO and our Colorado FRiends have a running contest to see whose "useful idiots" have the dumbest signs. They're winning right now but I'm sure ours will come up with a lulu soon. We had "brocoli" signs, stop earthquakes signs, and a few that made no sense at all.

A letter to the editor today from one of our soldiers in Kuwait, asks for continued support of our troops. I'll be joining my fellow patriots later this morning to raise our signs and flags high to honor them.

We had a young man who was stopped at the light (three lanes over) step out of his car and yelled "You are Welcome!". He didn't look old enough to be a veteran but then some of the guys we saw in Lemoore a couple of weeks ago looked like they were high school freshmen.

Another man who was in the parking lot, started honking his horn and trying to tell us something. I walked over and he said he was a Marine Veteran. I thanked him again and he said his girlfriends brother is stationed on the east coast. I told him to let him know that he is appreciated.

Another held up a dog tag and told us he was in the National Guard. We thanked him and he looked pleased as he drove away honking.

Another young man yelled "The war is over .... go home." We just smiled and waved to him.

Though Peace Fresno stated they were going to stop with their demonstrations for awhile, there are some who continue to show up and protest ..... some protest the war, while others protest our President but I'm not sure what some of them are protesting.

We received a large number of honks and thumbs-up from the passing motorists last night. Several people just waved or gave us a salute. One lady removed the marine cap from her husband and held it up for us to see. Fresno motorists seem to enjoy letting us know they are happy we are there every week.

The only sign across the street that was clever was one that read "STOP Mad Cowboy Disease".The others were either the same old thing ie: "No Blood for Oil" or they made no sense. Guess that's what happens when you lose your leadership. Obviously most of them do not have an original thought.
