I wish I had the Plastic Dashboard Virgin Mary concession here in Colorado. I could retire. Oh, and the Mexican flag concession too.

Importing labor is bad economics. Like you say, they take away entry level jobs, and they discourage innovation. Add in the social costs, plus there is no longer any pressure for them to join our culture. Neither Republicans or Democrats care, because they want the votes, legal or illegal.

The Bush White House waited two years to take any step to control the gate to this country. They announced today that they will ask for fingerprints of all visitors. That is the way it is in many countries! Why it took two years to implement that here?

"They're not exempt from taxes."

but they are exempt from following the law!

There is a reason they are called illegal alliens

Dang, when I saw the title I was hoping for an opus.

Me, too. It's the only reason I came in to this thread. What a disappointment.

Contact your elected officials

Yep, they are standing by, waiting for your call (sarcasm). With the exception of Representative Tancredo (Repub from CO) the Republicans are ecstatic about the cheap labor and the possibility of a few votes. Bush and Fox want to see sweeping amnesty for all of the illegals, and the subversives in MALDEF/MecHA/LaRaza/ACLU have more influence than the millions of unemployed conservatives.

Factor in the number of engineering positions now outsourced to India, and you have American engineers (with a BSCS, BSEE, or MSEE) applying for work at UPS and Home Depot.

Are you kidding? My son would gladly work fast food. Anything to pay for movies, CDs, videos, etc.

The Dashboard Mary's are an awesome rock back (or at least it sounds like they should be).

Here in NC as well...our beautiful mountains are starting to look like a poor mexican town with all the run down homes and shops they set up.

You know, I've never understood this either. Lived in the mountains for close to a decade and remember all the Mexicans up there and saw more than a few that couldn't speak a lick of English. I always figured it was worse down here in the flatlands, but after three years, I can honestly say I've seen more in the mountains than I've seen here in Raleigh. I know the numbers bear out the opposite, but I just don't see that many immigrant workers in the same places I used to see them up in Asheville

Yes there are a lot of Hispanics in Al & Ga.Are they all illegal? No. They are honest hard working people. Many are buying homes and starting buisnesses. When the economy turns back up most of the places they work will be begging for workers. You could not build a house or plant a ball field in Atlanta without Hispanics. They are the only ones willing to work 12hrs a day in the sun.

I confess that I visited two different McDonalds in the past week.

In both cases the staff was 100 percent hispanic, and on both visits I had to repeat my order twice due to the tenuous grasp of the English language.

Both places were in upscale suburban neighborhoods.

So far. Living in the far northern suburbs of Dallas there are hundred of businesses, and most are accepting applications, but they all say the same thing. We're not hiring just yet.

In California the state minimum wage is $6.75.

In California if you’re under 18 you also have to have a work permit issued through your school’s “career center.” At least that's who issues them here. That’s to comply with CA child labor laws.

Also, a lot of cities require that you not only pay a minimum wage, but require you to provide some minimum level of benefits too.

The companies that hire them need prosecuted to the full extent of the law... of course this will never happen... Should file a class action against the corporations that hire them.
