and noted that two simultaneous raids in the same neighborhood both uncovered drug dealing and led to seven arrests.

Oh, well, that's different.

The cops were looking for two handguns, a pile of marijuana and evidence of a pot-selling operation.

As long as these actions keep one joint out of a kid's mouth, or one firearm off the streets, it's worth it.

Fourth Amendment:
"...[N]o warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

"a warrant that allowed them to search all the units at 3629 Olinville Ave"

A warrant is supposed to describe exactly where is to be searched and on what grounds. Here is a building with 4 apartments. Unless it was one perp holed up in 4 apartments what kind of an asshole of a judge signed the warrant?

But is gets better:
"An NYPD spokesperson said that cops stand by their decision to raid the building, and noted that two simultaneous raids in the same neighborhood both uncovered drug dealing and led to seven arrests."

So it was justified to raid one building ( with 4 different apartments) because you later found out that raids "in the same neighboorhood" were fruitful?

Yea, God forbid anyone in NYC have a handgun! Might make it unsafe to keep on kicking in doors.

They smashed open a door, handcuffed several people and put a gun in the face of 12-year-old Jennifer Espady before going though everyone's belongings, witnesses said.

There is no price too high to pay to rid the nation of demon marijuana.

is a sarcasm tag really neccessary?

What a bunch of whiners!

No one was shot and killed, and no one was pistol-whipped. Not even one GD dog was kicked!

Sounds like these civilians got off easy; no one got hurt.

It pays to keep your nose clean.

The spokesperson said the information that led them to 3629 Olinville Ave. was "accurate," unlike a May 16 raid in which a bogus tip led cops to the home of 57-year-old church volunteer Alberta Spruill, who died of a heart attack after a stun grenade was tossed into her home.

Gee!!! The information was accurate. They didn't find any drugs or any guns, but hey, the information was accurate.

Just what in the Hell constitutes INACCURATE information, then?

Geeez... Another victory for the war on drugs.

Well at least they didn't use a stun grenade giving somebody a heart attack this time.

There may be a dozen or so cases of the valid need for a "No Knock" warrant in the nation in a year, primarily when someone is thought to be holding a hostage, but the police have gone nuts with them, and the judiciary has let them.

Where are all the Bleading Heart Liberal Judges who are supposed to be over the top protecting our constitutional rights?

Somehow "No Knock" has become the norm.

"I want the city to pay," said Jennifer's mom, Amerite. "How can a 12-year-old forget having a gun pointed at her? She was treated like she was in Iraq."

I expect significant follow-on activity in this area by ambitious lawyers.

The cops were armed with a warrant that allowed them to search all the units at 3629 Olinville Ave., a four-family apartment building.

How could they get a search warrant for an entire 4-apartment complex? Isn't much more specificity required? Was this supposed to be some kind of a ring with all four apartments involved? This sounds pretty "general" to me. And besides, they got the wrong place!

The cops were looking for two handguns, a pile of marijuana and evidence of a pot-selling operation. They found nothing.

Lemme get this straight. They smashed down the door and took the chance of killing somebody looking for this penny-ante stuff? What, no hostages or rapes in progress, just a few terrified "civilians"?

Whatever happened to the police politely knocking on the door, showing the warrant and doing a search without terrorizing everybody in sight? Did they think a large stash of marajuana and two guns were going to be flushed down the toilet by the time they got from the front door to the bathroom?

They don't need to be sued. They need to go to jail instead!
