$4.5 million sounds like a bargain; there are small yachts that cost more than that. How much (and how many people)does it cost to operate one of these things? Or it could be parked somewhere permanently and converted into some really cool living space.

That is a bargain - I wonder if it still has its guns?

Moving and operating it would cost way more than 4.5 million, unfortunately.

A serious question for a lighthearted post, but do you think that if I had the money, the Second Amendment should protect my right to buy and arm this ship?

Just the thing for your favorite evil billionaire genius!

I'd be happy with just a tank.

Buy? Yes.

Arm? I don't know the regs on what kinds of weapons non-service folks can possess.

But I'm certain, if money is no object, owning/registering this baby offshore would cover most problems.

Perhaps we should start a "freep-a-thon" to rally the money up for the USS FREEP.

Is an antique aircraft carrier without any warplanes or bombs even a Second Amendment issue?

he Second Amendment should protect my right to buy and arm this ship?

Certainly. Many of the ships and guns used in the Revolutionary war were privately owned and contracted to the Continental Congress.

I call dibs!

If I plan it right, for Christmas I could get him an FA-18...with bombs!

JDAMs...MOABs...Bunker Busters...

Oh, and we'll need missles! And big bullets...

I gotta make a shopping list.

I don't know what the Nine would say, but there is a historical precedent. I believe private concerns were given letters of marque and permitted to attack the Barbary Pirates.
