if you're drunk, you'd be safer letting ol' dobbin take you home than taking yourself home in a car. Good point, which I didn't see.

I agree. I also think that she will likely get a LONG sentence as well.

S E R I O U S L Y YOURSELF!
"...than our own short-term welfare if we were the driver in this story."
She had a human being clinging to her car after hitting him on a deserted street, she pulled into her garage, closed the door, and let him die. What...what could anyone on this earth possibly say to justify such an act? What does "short-term welfare" mean exactly? Does it mean that in a few days this won't seem so bad? That in the "short-term", it won't matter that some homeless bum had to die like that? The "short-term welfare" of Mr. Biggs doesn't seem to be an issue, because according to statements in the article, there was police and fire help in the immediate vicinity. Can you even begin to imagine what happened to that poor soul?
I hope the state of Texas sends "Daddy's Girl" straight to hell.

What is a life sentence in TX now? Seems it was changed not too long ago to require something like 40 yrs served before being elgible for parole consideration. Yes, it looks like 40 years.
Here is a link to the Andrea Yates case. She got life in prison:

HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- A Texas jury spent less than an hour deliberating before sentencing Andrea Yates to life in prison Friday for the drowning deaths of her five children. She will be eligible for parole in 40 years.

"On the long curve from East Loop 820 to U.S. 287, a man crashed through her windshield, coming to rest partially inside the passenger side of the car." . . . . < snip > . . . .
"She later went into the house, lay on the kitchen floor and cried more. She returned repeatedly to tell the man, who was moaning in pain, that she was sorry."
She was crying that something, (a Coke bottle, perhaps) fell out of the sky and crashed through her windshield and bled all over the car. Yup, she was sorry alright. Sorry she wouldn't be able to drive her car until the windshield was replaced. The 'gods' surely must be crazy, ruining her car in such an unjust manner. :<

"But in this case, she watched the guy dying--for 2 days--in her garage.
That is far from initial panic..."
Not only that, but none of her partners-in-crime did anything to help him. Her boyfriend certainly wouldn't have been arrested if he'd called 911. Her choice of friends has a lot to say about her character, such as it is.

"...than our own short-term welfare if we were the driver in this story." Other than the fact that the jaywalker didn't get stuck in the windshield, this case is the same at that of the Phoenix bishop. He *had* to have known he hit that man---but he went home and did nothing to try to save him.

From what we know about this case, this guy should not have died. Taken to a trauma center and heroic actions administered, early on, he most probably would have lived.
She didn't murder him with her car-she murdered him with her self serving, indifference to his slowly dying in her garage. She murdered him in the fashion that Ted Kennedy murdered Mary Jo Kopechnie.

She murdered him in the fashion that Ted Kennedy murdered Mary Jo Kopechnie. With a resume like this, maybe she can be Hillary's running mate in 2008?
