the judicial reapportionment was a stop-gap measure so that the 2002 elections could proceed until the legislature could do its constitutional duty.

Interesting. Do you have a source for this?

Will be calling Hutchinson and Cornyn to pressure Bush to grow some balls and enforce Article 4 Section 4. The Nazis did this same tactic and it worked for them. Enough of this appeasement crap. Time to play nuclear hardball Mr. President and send the US Marshals.

The San Antonio area Representatives, Casteel, Corte, Jones, and Mercer will be there to discuss the harm the Dems are doing to our school finances, with the public and the press.

If at all possible, please show up and wear red!!!

The Pubbies need to play hardball. The absconding Dims should be charged with:

(1) theft of government services,

(2) misuse of office,

(3) misappropriation of tax funds,

(4) abuse of public office,

(5) receiving illegal gratuities,

(6) filing false documents,

(7) abuse of government power,

(8) conflict of interest

(9) possible FEC violations

(10) violating the oath of office.

I thought that was common knowledge by now since this debate has been going on since the census. Why else would the courts intervene? The legislature couldn't come to an agreement (like now), so the courts stepped in to put a plan in place in time for 2002.

The debate is whether that court plan counts as the final plan or whether the legislature still has the responsibility to reapportion. Of course, the Democrats want to see the court plan remain as it essentially freezes the Democrats' gerrymandered plan from 1991. The Republicans want a new plan that represents the change in TX politics since then. Those TX changes are that Republicans are now the majority but still hold a minority of seats in the House because of the 1991 apportionment.

Okay, that's my understanding. I interpreted your previous comment as the court specifically stated the latter.

We feel so strongly about it that it forced us to use our constitutional right to break quorum to bring this to the public and to the legislative leadership," said Whitmire,

This guy, and the rest, have been taking lessons from Clinton. There is no "constitutional right to break quorum". If there was there wouldn't be the second part of the quorum provision, which gives the remaining members the power to compell attendence! From the Texas Consitution:

Article 3 - LEGISLATIVE DEPARTMENT
Section 10 - QUORUM; ADJOURNMENTS FROM DAY TO DAY; COMPELLING ATTENDANCE

Two-thirds of each House shall constitute a quorum to do business, but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner and under such penalties as each House may provide.

I don't get it. What is the point of passing the SAME bill yet again ???????

It's a new session and all bills that did not pass both houses of the legislature died at the end of the earlier session. Thus they have to be reintroduced and passed again, if they passed one house the first time.

(10) violating the oath of office.

If that was a crime, which it should be, most of the local, state and national politicians would be in jail. Very few of them "support and defend the Constitution of the United States" as required by virtually all of their oathes. Putting them in jail would, IMHO, be a "Good Thing".

If... (violating the oath of office)....was a crime, which it should be.....

It most certainly is a crime. In one very recent case the Feds, looking for evidence of wrongdoing, asked to see the oath taken by political appointees who are accused of using their offices for personal gain.

Taxpayers must demand the Texas Dims adhere to their sworn oaths or face the consequences.
