Alright, they're in OK. Now you need a governor with the stones to order the highway patrol to man the state line with orders to NOT LET THEM BACK IN!

My guess is that this attempt is dead, unless the GOP someone successfully induces one way or another one Dem senator to return to Texas. I doubt very much that will happen. The 11 have crossed the Rubicon. It will be difficult for any of them to recross, without looking like a sellout. I suspect the GOP tried behind the curtain to induce two Dem senators to stay in the state, and landed only one. The Texas GOP has played the its last trump card, and is now running on empty. The only silver lining is that I could be wrong. That does happen once in awhile. :)

It's okay under our Constitution.
The Democrats have gerrymandered since the Reconstruction.

I imagine that they are afraid that the Republicans will draw the lines the same way they always have.

Actually, the last trump card is for Governor Perry to continue to call special session after special session. The Democrats eventually have to come home because they cannot afford to stay away from their homes and livelihoods indefinitely. As we only have a part-time legislature with a salary of only $7200, the legislators have to have outside income.

The missing Senators and Representatives who did not show up today utterly failed their constituents. And they obstructed the will of the majority of Texans as shown by the votes at the last election.

Dock the pay of politicians who boycott.

No work should mean no pay.

Do you really think any will cross back for that reason during this second special session? And do you think Perry will keep calling one session after another? I have a certain angst about it all. I always have.

I hope that New Mexico State Police protection granted the exiled Texas Democrats extends only to the minimum extent necessary to prosecute a successful deportation or extradition to Texas and hand them over to the Texas Rangers, and is not significantly more than that granted to an ordinary criminal with some degree of fame.

).In other words that it is not a normal occurance in the 10 year redistricting cycle

True to a point. However it's also not a "normal occurance" for the districts to be set by a federal court, which over-ruled a state court. The federal court based the districts on the 1990 plan, which was of course heavily Gerrymandered to favor Democrats.

It's also true the the Republicans latest plan went a long way to removing the worst of their own Gerrymanders from the plan originally up for approval in the Texas House during the regular session. They also adddressed some of the concerns of suburban verses rural.

I'm sure the National Socialist Democratic party, and its Chinese benefactors, will see to it that they don't suffer any financial hardships.

Whether one will cross I don't know but I believe they will have some extreme pressure on some of them by local political leaders... Most of these people have regular jobs to which they need to attend to. They may hold out but we'll see.....

There have been as high as 6 special sessions before... Special sessions aren't new to the Texas political landscape... Here's a list of a few from years past..

One more point. Our Constitution says it is up to the Legislature to do the redistricting. The current one was done by judges.
