Lice offer clues to origin of clothing

Human body lice appear to owe their origin to the invention of clothing, and the types that reside on our bodies appear to have hitchhiked along as modern humans migrated out of Africa about 100,000 years ago.

Mark Stoneking and colleagues at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, made the connection between the origin of clothing and the rise of human body lice by checking so-called molecular clocks found in the cells of all living creatures.

I read your "evolution through the back door" at another site. I remember you posting against evolution much more in the past than you are doing now. What has caused the change? You know yourself that two religions cannot mix. You are either for Him or against Him. You really have confused me so much I cannot say. I am sure you love everyone including the evolutionist if you are a Born again Christian as you say you are. What I am having trouble with is how it seems to me, you have changed sides of the volleyball net somehow. You seem so kind to the evolutionist and so not so nice to the Christians these days. I thought the agreement that you and someone eles thought up was going to keep civility on these threads but instead, the one who helped you in trying to keep it nice here is gone and the evos are saying any nasty thing they like. What's worse, you seem to be advocating it. What a crazy world we live in. I have seen the word troll here so many times it is sickening, and much more than that.

Against such a crashing display of ignorance, what difference does it make how many times a person says, "I have a Master's Degree?"

Speaking of Master's Degrees conferring a license to pontificate...

Anyway, need to fix some dinner, since I didn't get one fish, had a big old beast roll right in front of me, almost teasing me. Man, that made me mad!! Could have reached out and grabbed the little sucker, well, it wasn't so little.

Ooh, bummer! Well, for the next time, here's my recipe for a wasabi sauce which goes perfectly with salmon:

I guess if you can't find a wasabi mayonnaise for the base, you could use plain mayo & double the extra wasabi paste.

This recipe has been refined thru several iterations of evolution, so you know it's got to be good!

I can't believe that they can actually fit all of that BS on one site. That is hilarious and amazing. Too bad every last bit of it is refutable and been refuted, but that's OK, I love watching you try. If I were a Fundamentalist and wanted all the propaganda I could handle that would agree with my worldview, I'd go there too.

Be sure to read the many misrepresentations about giraffe evolution. Counting the "straw man" attacks would take all day. Perhaps the most egregious (although many are in the running) was how the site dishonestly quoted Asimov quoting a Lamarckian, but presented it as if it were current evolutionary theory in order to ridicule, instead of what it actually was: Asimov's example of the incorrect and unscientific notions that Darwin *replaced*.

Are you sure this page isn't a joke? I mean, the 'physics' looks like a put-on, and Dr. Hal E. Putoff is surely a maufactured name

Harold E. Puthoff (not "Putoff", as Dolphin misspells it) is a physicist, but for decades has been known for being willing to swallow just about any "way out there" thing he can find. For example, for many years he was an enthusiastic disciple of Uri Gellar, "pyschic" spoon-bender. Puthoff, Charles Tart, and Russell Targ made a number of "scientific" tests of Gellar and declared him a true wonder, but every first-hand account of the "tests" I've ever read pointed out countless examples of laughably sloppy protocol, like for example allowing one of Gellar's "traveling associates" to wander in and out of the two rooms where Gellar and his "psychic target" were. Apparently Puthoff et al are either completely unaware of the manner in which "mindreading" tricks are done, or so gullibly trusting that they'd be easy prey for any con man.

In addition, some of Puthoff et al's own videotapes of these sessions (when they bothered to tape at all) have even caught Gellar clumsily cheating (or exposing his methods for trained magicians to point out), and in their "defense" Puthoff has said that it doesn't mean anything -- if Gellar weren't genuine, he wouldn't feel so pressured to fake it to keep up appearances when his intermittent powers failed him, since everyone knows that psychic powers won't always perform on command (!)

As Dave Barry says, "I am not making this up".

Where ya been for the past 3000 posts AG? I've been called every name in the book, but I never saw you once bring out the agreement except to try to get me to sign on. As I said before, very confusing behavior.

It's not confusing at all. Since you neither signed onto the agreement, nor are following its guidelines without signing it, you're not covered by it. You're free to wage war in any manner you please (subject to only the FreeRepublic's posting guidelines), but are also fair game in return, if someone chooses to fire back.

If you truly would like a higher level of discourse, sign the agreement that many of the rest of us have signed, and join the mutual "cease fire". Like any such "written by committee" document, it's not perfect, but it's better than anarchy, and we're about due for a session of discussion about how it might be improved.

Even on the religion threads (which have gotten pretty hot at times) I can't recall people engaging in so many outright personal attacks on my person and character.

Many on the evolutionist side are insult specialists. Those members of the Church of Evolution are expecially strident to those who do a good job defending their posts. Just count up the number of times you are called a liar or troll to detemine how well you are doing.

I admire your persistence. BTW, I wish I had a dollar for every post written to someone on the famous "Virtual Ignore" list.

I rather liked Randi's challenge to Geller. Randi suggested that they meet on the Tonight Show; Geller could do any of his stunts (without telling Randi ahead of time) then Randi would duplicate the stunt immediately.

Randi supposedly visited Geller's apartment and bent all the spoons in the kitchen (undetected) including one under a sealed bell-jar.

Of course, the quintessential insult is to expose a creationist post as a fraud. That's intolerable , and will be met with crude insults, threats and whining.

I knew I'd heard of Hal Putoff in some context other than creationism. Apparently he used to be into witchcraft (remote viewing). http://www.psitech.net/wholelifetimes.htm

Anything for a buck.
