Freeper prayer request for Ernest_at_the_Beach (Update: His wife has since passed away)
August 28, 2003

Posted on 08/28/2003 4:56:10 PM PDT by Ragtime Cowgirl

Dear Freeper prayer warriors, please keep Ernest_at_the_Beach and his wife in your prayers.

From Ernest_at_the_Beach | 08/28/2003:

Just to let you know that my wife (Kathy ) is now in her final days. Her pain in the last few months from the cancer was constant and unrelenting .

The last several months had been very difficult as she was unable to eat well and not able to eat at all for the last several weeks.

God will be merciful soon and relieve her of the misery of the dreaded disease!

Prayers would be appreciated!

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word,
But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord,,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea.
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile,
And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee.
On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

- Words: Henry F. Lyte, 1847
- Music: William H. Monk, 1861

Lyte was inspired to write this hymn as he was dying of tuberculosis.

I am so very sorry, Ernest. God Bless Kathy. May you and your family gain strength and comfort from God at this difficult time.

THE SHIP OF LIFE
by John T. Baker

Along the shore I spy a ship As she sets out to sea; She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze And slips away from me.

I watch her fading image shrink, As she moves on and on, Until at last she’s but a speck, Then someone says, “She’s gone.”
Gone where? Gone only from our sight And from our farewell cries; That ship will somewhere reappear To other eager eyes.

Beyond the dim horizon’s rim Resound the welcome drums, And while we’re crying, “There she goes!” They’re shouting, “Here she comes!”

We’re built to cruise for but a while Upon this trackless sea Until one day we sail away Into infinity.

In the Sweet By and By

Words: Sanford F. Bennett, 1868.
Music: Joseph P. Webster, 1868.

There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

We shall sing on that beautiful shore
The melodious songs of the blessed;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

To our bountiful Father above,
We will offer our tribute of praise
For the glorious gift of His love
And the blessings that hallow our days.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

Through this forum I've learned so much
from men and women through love of life.
We agree and differ on various things,
guarding in the heart vault golden rings...
of information.

My gratitude goes to you and all
for the knowledge shared from sincere minds.
When one is lost, the pain lingers,
as I type my thoughts with heavy fingers.

Please Ernest know that due to distance,
we can't all gather to resolve the gap,
that comes from different points of view.
So please remember that we love you.
