Not if 375,000 valid signatures supporting a referendum to overturn the Illegal Aline drivers' licenses are submitted by December 4th.

In that case, SB60 will be automatically stayed until the March primary, when the infuriated California electorate will kill it for good.

This delay will insure the Davis recall, and the defeat of Bustamante.

Another thing to keep in mind... campaign finance rules prohibit donations to any of the people running for Governor to $21,200/person. On the other hand, there are absolutely NO spending restrictions on Gray Davis and his "NO ON RECALL" campaign. With another 6 months to pander to the unions, indian casinos, public employee coalitions and reap the rewards with many $1M donations, Davis will be able to dominate the airways with his campaign - while the challengers must now make their paltry campaign funds stretch another 6 months.

Not if the recall elecion is pushed to March of 2004. That is the presidential primary election, where EVERY Democrat will be at the polls, voting for their favorite Democrat presidential candidate. The GOP timed the submission of the recall papers specifically to avoid the March election. This is a HUGE win for the Democrats.

If the delay stands, there will be a huge push after the first of the year when the driver license law goes into effect to get illegal aliens registered to vote. The March election will look like something from a third world dictatorship.

Yep. More time for empty-suit candidates parroting cue cards to be exposed for what they are (or aren't as the case may be), and more time for candidates with substance, like conservative McClintock, slayer of RINOs, to keep moving their poll figures up. Sad. Sad day indeed.
