The Media Bias Chart (Check your bias?)

All Generalizations are False ^ | Vanessa Otero
I ran across this "Media Bias" chart today out on the interwebs. My first response upon examining it closely was that I had entered some kind of reality distortion field. I decided to go to the source to check out the thinking and methodology. It's worth reading through as an intellectual exercise. The author/creator Vanessa Otero, an admittedly "moderately liberal" patent attorney in Denver, has created the All Generalizations are False site supporting the chart. While finding much to disagree with in her finished product, I found her writing interesting, reasonable, and instructive. Here's a MarketWatch article that gives their...

Mainstream media errors in the Trump era: Your catalogue of the media's bias-fueled failure-fest

The press' credibility problem took a turn for the worse this year. Chalk it up to bias, sloppiness, or sheer panic in response to the election of Donald Trump, but the bottom line for 2017 is that there was a shocking decline in the quality and reliability of political journalism. Instead of adjusting adeptly to Trump's easy relationship with the truth and his tendency to abuse members of the news media, a significant number of political journalists and commentators tripped over themselves to repeat every bit of gossip, thinly sourced claim and half-cocked rumor. These stories fell short of the...

The People's Repudiation Of Media Influence Thus, despite the media's best efforts to defeat Trump through a barrage of negative news stories, most Americans appeared not to be swayed by media coverage. Election Day provided the most definitive proof of both the media's bias against Trump and the people's repudiation of its attempts to influence the election narrative. Heading into the day of the vote, most news outlets were confident that Clinton would become the 45th president of the United States, as they pointed to poll after poll showing the former secretary of state comfortably leading Trump. This coverage seemed...

In Attempting to Claim There’s No Conservative Bias on Social Media – ‘Experts’ Inadvertently Show Trump CRUSHED Biden in Social Media Too

The clowns on the Democrat left have done it again. In an effort to claim there is no conservative bias on social media, the ‘experts’ show President Trump crushed Biden in social media as well....In fact, claims of anti-conservative bias are themselves a form of online disinformation that Republicans have sought to wield to turn their supporters against Big Tech, according to researchers at the Center for Business and Human Rights at New York University’s Stern School of Business.....Roll Call states that in spite of conservative censorship Trump crushed Biden on social media as well: The NYU report also compared...

Media bias or media stupidity?

Only in a media biased in favour of progressive causes would make such idiotic statements In recent years a lot of attention has been placed on media bias. Those on the right of the political spectrum are always pointing out the left wing bias of the mainstream media such as the New York Times, CNN and no one’s favourite, MSNBC. Those on the left deny such bias because they are incapable of seeing it. To them, left wing views are not biased but merely the truth. Divergent views are wrong and those who accuse the media of a progressive bias...

In early 2011, the Wisconsin state legislature was considering legislation disfavored by government employee unions and many left-leaning media outlets. Union organizers distributed leaflets urging supporters to react to the proposed legislation. According to a local press account, on February 15, 2011, “Thousands of protesters rushed to the state Capitol Wednesday night, forcing their way through doors, crawling through windows and jamming corridors.” In the early afternoon of January 6, 2021, over 700 protesters, some who may have attended the Stop the Steal rally, entered the US Capitol. According to the Washington Post, most protesters were “taking selfiesand stealing souvenirs”...

President Trump provided facts and context to reporters in the White House briefing room Monday. Mainstream news networks could not bring themselves to look. The media is anxiously rewriting history to blame the president for a pandemic borne out of a communist regime’s coverup. “He could have seen what was coming,” the New York Times now claims, in a report that argues the economy should have been closed back in February. Back when Nancy Pelosi said, “come to Chinatown”? When the New York Times called travel restrictions and quarantines “draconian”? When the Times attacked President Trump, during a pandemic,...

Where’s your favorite information source stand on the political scale? I’ve updated the following subjective chart based on information compiled from various sources and your feedback. Some sources have shifted left or right, others have been added including: ESPN, McClatchy, the Federalist, Conservative Review, Washington Monthly, Twitchy, Gateway Pundit and Conservative Treehouse. Please note that outlets on left and right sometimes publish material that’s on the opposite side of the political spectrum, or that has no political leaning at all. The placement is based on perceived overall tone and audience. Position on the chart doesn’t necessarily imply credibility or lack...

The media, the election and bias

Daily Commercial ^ | 10/23/16
Has the media been biased against Trump? Yes, we believe so, especially lately. Trump's every utterance, no matter how innocuous, is now parsed, analyzed and criticized by a litany of political pundits. The wire services that the Daily Commercial subscribes to churn out stories almost daily that fact check Trump, which is warranted given his penchant for exaggeration and duplicity. Yet those same services turn out so few stories that fact check Clinton, who also has a strained relationship with the truth. And while hundreds of stories have attempted to shed light on Trump's feelings about women, minorities, his business...

Four More Examples of Media Bias

The media is distorting everything that comes out of the Trump administration. Here are four examples from just the last few days. Last Thursday, the New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today obnoxiously proclaimed: “'Science should not stand in the way' of schools reopening, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany says.” What did McEnany actually say? “You look at the JAMA pediatric study of 46 pediatric hospitals in North America that said the risk of critical illness from COVID is far less for children than the seasonal flu. The science is on our side here.” Clearly, McEnany was arguing...

“Sound bites usually aren’t very sound.” — Thomas Sowell, senior fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. In the current election cycle, there are signs that a long-standing dynamic might be starting to collapse. Candidates within the large Republican presidential field appear far more willing to defy and unmask the tactics of the national mainstream news media than in previous years. It is unclear whether this dynamic is developing intentionally or if it was thrust upon the candidates out of necessity. Nor is it clear that it will endure throughout the entire nomination process. But for the time being it is...

Americans might be divided on the issue of gun control, but CNN Town Hall on Wednesday night only featured questioners who supported gun control. Even worse, CNN is accused of trying to rewrite one student’s question so that it was supportive of gun control, though the network has told me that they strongly deny this. The only speaker representing the right self-defense, Dana Loesch, was continually identified as an NRA spokesman.

Mainstream Media's Bias

Apparently, integrity and critical thinking are not qualities found in today's mainstream media. We know this after watching the CNBC-hosted Republican debate billed as one which would focus on "the key issues that matter to all voters-job growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy." Obviously, that did not happen. Instead, Americans watched moderators with the seeming intellectual prowess of June bugs disrespectfully hurl boneheaded attacks and stupid questions at GOP presidential hopefuls, offering millions of viewers a front row seat to observe proof positive they are nothing more than extensions of, and left-wing propagandists for, the...

The Washington Post headline is crystal clear: “Implicit racial bias causes black boys to be disciplined at school more than whites, federal report finds.” That sure sounds like a serious problem. Another problem? The headline isn’t quite accurate. The government-town newspaper is “informing” readers about a recent Government Accounting Office “Report to Congressional Requesters” entitled “Discipline Disparities for Black Students, Boys, and Students with Disabilities.” The GAO found great disparity between the percentage of black, male and disabled students compared to their relative percentage of the overall student population: Black students make up 15.5 percent of public school students, but...

This past week Fox News regular contributor Juan Williams penned a column on the Ferguson situation questioning where the black leadership was. When I was reading through his column one particular comment written by Williams jumped off the page at me.In his column he wrote, “Incredibly, the best leadership on the scene has come from the family of the murdered teen”. My question to Juan Williams is, what “murdered” teen ?There was no teenager murdered as a result of the police shooting in Ferguson that I’m aware of.There indeed was a black teenager who lost his life while attacking a police...

Just two days before New Year’s, a 2-year-old accidentally shot and killed his mother at a Wal-Mart in rural Idaho. The victim was Veronica Rutledge, a 29-year-old concealed handgun permit holder. The child had reached into his mother’s purse. Massive news coverage ensued. Tragedies like these make headlines. That’s understandable. But where was the news media on the previous day, when concealed handgun permit holders likely saved multiple lives? — In Fargo, N.D., four people robbed a 36-year-old man and beat him unconscious. Fortunately, a permit holder stopped the attack. “The passer-by, who has a license to carry a concealed...

Some nonprofit groups will no longer have to give the IRS the names of donors who give them $5,000 or more. Among the groups that will no longer have to report donors are the National Rifle Association, various chambers of commerce, and groups focused on particular issues, such as Americans for Prosperity, which has been closely associated with the Koch brothers. But the ruling also applies to groups like the NAACP, labor unions and volunteer fire departments. Huh? Why the headline focus on the NRA, then? The headline could have just as easily read "NAACP and some other nonprofits" or...

Media bias against Kavanaugh is overwhelming

It's hard to remember a time when both sides of the aisle have been this pissed off before on one topic. In this case, we're obviously talking about the farcical confirmation process surrounding Brett Kavanaugh, who went from Supreme Court shoo-in to perhaps the most divisive figure in the country outside of anyone named Trump. This whole sordid affair is a farce with one goal in mind: Paint the Republican Party as anti-women, anti-sexual assault, anti-#MeToo. From a general political perspective, it's almost irrelevant if Kavanaugh gets confirmed. The damage is already done when the president and many in his...
