Six Episcopal Priests to be Defrocked for Opposition to Homosexuality

HARTFORD, April 13, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Six Episcopal priests were warned Sunday that their opposition to the ordination of the first openly homosexual bishop would mean their dismissal as pastors of their parishes, and eventually even to their being defrocked.

The six had "abandoned the communion of the church" by their opposition to their bishop, who supported the ordination of New Hampshire's Bishop Gene Robinson, according to a letter from the bishop, Andrew D. Smith. The six have been vocal in their condemnation of Bishop Smith since Robinson's ordination in 2003.

Rector of St. Paul's Church in Darien, Rev. Christopher Leighton, one of the six priests who received the warning from Smith, called the imposition a "spiritual gag order," according to a Boston Globe report. "The real story is our freedom to speak and our freedom to practice our faith is what is being inhibited," he added.

Six retired bishops of the Episcopal Church USA condemned the actions of Bishop Smith in a statement in support of the six priests. "Is the bishop of Connecticut a 'Kissing Judas?'" they wrote. "These bishops have kissed the Lord with their vows and betrayed Him for the silver currency of contemporary culture . . . They have acted in opposition to 4000 years of Judeo-Christian tradition and departed further from Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Classical Protestantism, as well as defiantly violated the expressed will and commitment of the world-wide Anglican Communion," they said.

I wish we could have them defrocked for being openly homosexual.

You are right, there are plenty of Episcopal Priests who are wonderful men. And women, but that's another problem.

I'd probably leave but why join a church where I'd be afraid to leave my children alone with them?

If the Catholics don't elect someone who will knot together a whip with cords and drive the moneychangers (deviants) out of the temple, there is no reason to leave. The catholics are just as screwed up as we are, worse in some ways. They've lost half their members, equivalent to many Episcopal Churches, they just had a lot more to begin with.

You should be afraid to leave your children alone in the church you're in now.

Episcopalian abuse

The incidents of pedophilia were no greater than they were in the general population. Besides, my kids are adults - it's safer for them than whoever they run into.

Most of the guys in the conclave are John Paul II appointees. We shall see.

We left the ELCA because we could see the liberal direction they were going. We're very happy in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. No National Council of Churches, a solid Christ-centered message, no homosexuality and definitely pro-life. We couldn't be happier and we thank God for leading us here.

That's not good enough. The truth is the Catholic Church has protected the pedophiles and there's a culture of homosexuality in part of the church. I'd be very careful.

Like the myth of the separation of Church and State, tolerance and diversity are one way streets.

Look at that! Officially and formally, evil is good, good is evil. I feel so bad for the faithful Episcopalians who don't know where to turn for remedy.

Is that awful, or what?

Unfortunately, however, they would be coming into a Roman Church that is presently in the same process that the Episcopal is; the former is caught up in the same reason that they would be leaving the latter. As with other things, the NewVatican policies of change lag behind the Episcopal by a decade or two, but the time lag has been shortening lately. I predict the same crisis in the so-called Catholic Church within 5 years at this rate.

Homosexual doesn't equal pedophile...the vast majority of pedophiles are straight white males.

Episcopalian abuse

After perusing all abusers and victims in this article it behooves me to think of the clamor in the Catholic church of those liberals who advocated abolishing celibacy. Yes! they say MARRIAGE WOULD PREVENT THESE ABUSES......who's kidding whom????

>>Homosexual doesn't equal pedophile...the vast majority of pedophiles are straight white males.<<

What a novel concept: just take in what the media dishes out, hook line and sinker! Oh, I know: let's call them "gay," and ignore the fact that they are the most unappy group you'll ever set eyes on. Ever see a lover's spat between two queers?

First off, they are not "pedophiles" they are child predators. To provide for their future "needs" they often resort to systematic conditioning of young boys, anticipating they will be "ready" when they come of age. Theirs is a sin that cries to heaven for vengeance (and that would be God's vengeance, not ours: e.g. Sodom and Gomorrah, etc.). Pederasty corrupts the youth and generates more predators. It can become epidemic, kind of like AIDS, if you catch the connection. A society that accepts and tolerates it is a society daring divine wrath.

Second, the targeting of young boys by perverted men is indeed homosexual. This might not be as clear cut in the Episcopal setting as it is in the Catholic. Only recently have altar boys been displaced by altar girls.
