I thought that traditionally, Calvinists didn’t celebrate Christmas. Learn something new every day.

(This doesnt necessarily apply to the fruitcake, but you can participate in the thanksgiving without that!) Hey!!! My wife makes the BEST fruitcake. I love the stuff. She usually makes two and saves one for the 4th of July. (Fruitcakes lasts forever you know.)
Merry Christmas everyone.

This is a Reformed Caucus Thread. "Caucus" means that those of us who are not, uh, included in the set of "Reformed" should act like guests in someone else's house (or place of worship).
Yes, yes, I know I'm not the moderator. Nevertheless, it's important to me that the "Caucus" designation be respected.

Okay, then do you let people in, who take the reformers' admonition seriously, to go to the Word and base one's understanding on it (which is what the Word says, too, coincidentally) or is this thread for people who are fixated on the reformers, themselves and their opinions?

“Hey!!! My wife makes the BEST fruitcake.”
Well, my wife says she married the best fruitcake. “Fruitcakes lasts forever you know” Lord, I hope not!!

Hence we cannot approve of the rigid judgment of those who charge such churches with idolatry (in which those days are still kept, the names of the saints being retained), since they agree with us in doctrine concerning the worship of God alone and detest the idolatry of the papists (p. 104). I believe this disqualifies the Caucus protection of this thread.

Yay for confessions, creeds and tradition supplanting the bible! Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for the article, GC. I had a conversation just yesterday with someone who doesn't celebrate. I have no issue with their convictions however, he was a tad bit judgemental with those who do.

When I read the word “papists” in the text, I thought the same thing.

I don't think any of the reformers rejected all tradition. Their position was closer to rejection of tradition that was in contradiction of Scripture.

Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.”
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies.
With the angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Christ by highest heaven adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of a Virgin’s womb.
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see.
Hail the incarnate Deity.
Pleased as man with man to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.”
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies.
With the angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris’n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth;
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.”
Joyful, all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies.
With the angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Charles Wesley,
Merry Christmas to all!

Not surprised that so many Calvinist wives are experts in the art of baking fruitcakes. lol.
To: unspun
I guess you’d have to ask the Reform people. I’m just a guest here.
