More than 1,000 Buddhist extremists armed with clubs, swords and stones ferociously attacked a Catholic church in the town of Crooswatta, Sri Lanka on December 6, destroying the altar, statues and pews.

L’Osservatore Romano reported that Father Jude Denzil Lakshman, pastor of Our Lady of the Mystical Rose, said “I still can hear their shouts in my ears, ‘Cut him to pieces, kill him’.”

The attack took place after the 7 p.m., Sunday Mass, leaving several parishioners wounded. “It is obvious that the attack was well-planned and that the mob waited for us to come out after Mass,” Father Lakshman said....

he archdiocese noted that Air Force personnel were deployed immediately to bring the mob under control. Guards are still in the area to guarantee the safety of the faithful, which include 293 families.

As of now, police have arrested 11 suspects from Buddhist extremist groups that have attacked the church in the past.

[you have to realise that with the ‘safe, sheltered environments’ that many of us find ourselves in, this is not the norm.]

It WAS the norm for our country.
There have always been evil people but they hid their evil behind closed doors and it was not as prolific as nowadays.

Just look at what has come out of the woodwork since Obama has been elected, everything has grown much worse. The gays, lesbians and muslims are now trying to force their agenda on us. The liberal communist agenda has unleashed that upon us.

Decades ago, those who were ‘evil’ were less inclined to act because of a more moral population. It would not have been tolerated. I did not know ANY violent children, they obeyed their parents, teachers and adults of authority. My 4 children did the same.

As for ‘dog eat dog’ world, competition was always there and you worked hard to succeed. You didn’t lie, cheat, steal or kill to get your way. The morals have changed now. Our politicians are corrupted.

[One could probably say that 98% of all our current problems are not down to that harsh truth but on the failure of Western Culture in realising that harsh truth.]

Envy of our country and lifestyle by other countries is not our fault. It’s not like we took anything away from them. In fact, our country has always been the first to act and done the most to help other countries.

It is not our fault that they continue to be violent and abusive to their people. It’s not like we cheer and want it that way for them! The students in Iran are trying their best to rebel and we [the people] are cheering them on. Hopefully, a better President would try to help them.

Look, I’m not a historian, just a woman who luckily grew up in earlier years of the United States.

Strange how the “sheep” stealing came into the conversation, huh?

John 1:29 says, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’”

I totally understand what others are saying here about the evil out there. Absolutely agree, but I don't see it exactly the same way. I see an inherent tendency for evil that knows no favorites and is manipulated by those who seek power.

What bothers me about articles like this is the narrow slices of reporting that we get, the defining of so-called reality in the wording. It's an effort on the part of the global socialists to blame all of man's grievances on religions. I contend, that even if there were no religion, there would still be war, violence and suffering...it's a human thing not a belief system or a geographical area or any one set of people that cause it.

The pervasive socialist/atheist/communist model, if it continues to gain momentum, will only serve to make a few new humans gain power over the others but it will not change the nature of humans. There will still be wars and poverty and class systems and all things unacceptable to mans better nature.

Most of the strife we see in the media is only a very small select piece of the pie. It's just a political illusion.

The commies were always very good at illusions and they have foisted their brand of reality in many different countries over the decades, including India. The Russians have admitted as much. They even have a name for it...psychological subversion.

If there is any trouble between people, look for the commie elements to point out the parts that fit their agenda. Two people could be fighting over a cow in India, but if they are of two different religions, it will be announced from the rooftops, will the brutal rape and murder of someoe who was of the same faith down the street goes unreported leaving the unspoken impression that mankind urgently needs to rid itself of the scourge of all faiths. It is part of the manifesto.

"From my earliest memories as a child the one thing that has seemed self-evident to me is that religions pretty much pit humans against each other.

How about some manipulation. Someone stirring the pot to blame human nature on belief systems. Commies brag about busting up a country in such a fashion.

Envy of our country and lifestyle by other countries is not our fault.

You miss my point. WE are the ones in the fantasy world- not the rest of the world. I don't envy Western Culture. I pity it.

Don't equate this to me praising the rest of the world, because I'm not. I just don't see us as being better off. In many ways, we're worse off because we're blind to reality.

Decades ago, those who were ‘evil’ were less inclined to act because of a more moral population.

This for example. We were not more moral decades ago. This is a myth. People always look back in a nostalgic way. They change the past around to form a sort of dichotomy to the present and as a talisman against the inevitable future. We were savages in the past. Just as brutal. Just as violent. Just as amoral. Hey, just ask the natives we supplanted on this continent. I don't think they'd share your ideas about our earlier morality.

But like I said, count me as a non-believer. I don't believe in the dream world. Violence disgusts me but it never shocks me. And when religious people do it, I am shocked least of all.

Violence and grotesque human nature don't need a religion to manifest itself. Your blame seems rather narrow and focused to me.

to blame human nature on belief systems

Humans are responsible for their belief systems. They invent their gods. They divide up the world between believer and infidel and then they...

Works for me. Obviously, I mean as a theory. Religion and the religious- not so much... Equally obvious. When I was younger I couldn't get it why people need to grovel before an imaginary alpha male. As I got older I gradually came to accept that people just do although I'll never understand why. But then I'll never understand Klingon, paedophilia or liberal economics either. I'm not going to change the minds of the religious. They will not change mine. Everybody dies. God sorts us out. C'est la vie.

Humans took on belief systems, but human nature is the underlying cause of corruption of most of the religions. In the end, it's usually not the system but how you use it.

If there were no religions, there would still be bullies, losers, and winners. If the world were run by alpha women, there would still be wars and poverty and discrimination. If atheists come to power, there will still be pain, suffering, retaliation and blame, kings and surfs and minorities.

I’m not blaming anyone. I don’t care. The world is violent. I don’t attach a moral significance to it one way or the other. It’s just a fact.

Just like I have to kill in order to live. I don’t think it’s murder. I need to eat. So does every living creature. There’s no morality attached to it.

People f-— each other over. I am fully aware of this. I rarely let my guard down. I aim to survive. I trust no one fully. If my own mother whirled on me with an axe, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. I wouldn’t lose valuable time being shocked- I’d just take mom out. You know... I can always get in touch with my feelings at her funeral later.

I’ve seen a lot of people get hurt over time just because they wasted three seconds being shocked at what was happening to them. Over what? Shocked because why? It’s like ‘Hey! You can’t do this!’ Yeah. Actually they can. Just like if I kill a deer or pull the head off a chicken. Some people just do it and they succeed because ‘good people’ are too busy being shocked to fight back. By the time it sinks in, they’ve bled out on the sidewalk.

That’s reality.

Take us in Western Culture. We should just nuke the Muslim countries. If I had been George W Bush, on 9/12, the problem would’ve been solved for all time. But we are stuck in this mindset of ‘but deep down, they’re like us’. This is what I was getting at earlier. If we were realistic, we’d know that they are NEVER going to be like us. They are NEVER going to accept living side by side with us. They are ALWAYS going to try to kill us.

The only realistic approach is just to accept that as reality because it is reality and then do what we have to do. We could be free of muslim terror right now if we wanted but we prefer the fantasy. We prefer to perpetuate this idea of this all inclusive culture that every other culture really wants to be. But they don’t. They never will.

I tried to do a quick read up on it and it says Buddhism is more of a philosophy or ‘way of life’ and is also a belief system which is tolerant of all other beliefs or religions. Buddhism agrees with the moral teachings of other religions

In any religious system, there are people who obtain money and power off the system, and would feel threatened by a reduction in followers of that religion.

I agree with everything you say.

I would also hate living in a world run by atheists. I am not an atheist. I don’t believe that position is logically tenable. But not being atheist doesn’t mean I agree with religion.

Humans are inherently corrupt. Agree. Humans create the systems. They use the systems. The whole thing is a mess. As is evident all around us.

Don’t totally disagree...except for one small thing, they are wide spread around the world in the billions and multiplying. You can’t nuke them all. If none of them have a shred of decency then just kill yourself now cause it’s over.

That too.
Maybe some stale cranberry sauce or bad oysters.
Lot of mercury in seafood these days.

You can’t nuke them all this is for sure. But you can darn sure nuke Mecca and destroy all the major islamic nations. You can put a moratorium on islamic immigration and also ban the religion from being practiced within our own borders.

It’ll come to that. People are just putting off the inevitable. We’re stuck on this rock with them. The problem won’t go away. Each politician that doesn’t address it is simply playing the Russian pistol game- hoping it doesn’t blow up while they’re the ones in office. Hoping it’s the next guy that has to push the buttons and take the blame.

Eventually, they (the jihadis) will get their hands on a nuke. They will set it off in a major western city- anybody that doesn’t believe that is dreaming.

And once they do... Well... Then it’s going to get really ugly. A lot of people are going to be ‘shocked’. Feelings are going to be hurt.

You decimate them enough, they’ll fold eventually or they’ll face extinction. It won’t be the first time we’ve pretty much wiped out entire cultures. Again, I would point anyone who wants to argue about that towards the Indian reservations. They’re not ‘wiped out’ in the truest sense of the word... But it was the ones that didn’t want to get wiped out that accepted the whole reservation thing in the end. The same will eventually happen for islam.

The only other option is for islam to adapt to the modern world. The religion must be ‘liberalized’ if it is to survive. Could happen. I’m not holding my breath. But if it wants to be a successful meme, it will.

Pretty much...but the game plan for the remnants? Leave and let them rebuild without our foot in the door? There have to be a few million that can be “modernized”. With any luck at all, it will happen without the major destruction. Not holding my breath.
