For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven."
~ Jesus Christ, Matthew 5:17-20
"We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did."
~ 1 John 2: 3-6
AMEN Zechariah!!! As Christians we are called to look at the world through Christ's lenses--which means seeing things from an ETERNAL perspective. Rich or poor, there is only ONE mediator between God and man: Christ Jesus.
Spiritually speaking, the USA is the most dangerous part of the world--where people have "just enough religion to send them to hell."
And we know what the Bible says about how hard it is for rich people to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Americans are the richest people in the world!
EVERY soul is precious. Every individual on EARTH demands our prayer and attention, be it a healthy child in Japan or a soldier in his deathbed in a warzone hospital.
150,000 people persish in the world per day. That's 150,000 souls entering the judgment seat of Christ. 150,000 heading into eternity...
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations!" ~ Matthew 28: 19
American Christianity is infected with the evil fruit of Protestantism. This problem is probably not occurring to the gentle author, but that is the central problem.
However, is it "almost totally wrong"? No. Protestantism is a heresy that retained several important doctrines of the Catholic Church and as such has value. It should not, however, mess with the societies that are doing just fine because they have retained the authentic Christianity of the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Church, such as Roumania or Peru.
If the author is as concerned with the tepid character of the American Christendom, he should start by backtracking from the Protestant counterscriptural delusions.
The Nazarene lived the perfect life. He kept the law because fallen man can not. His fulfilment of the law ended it. Quoting scripture does not mean that you have understanding.
I know an old preacher who has on occasion preached a similar message...He references the early 1900s when it first became fashionable to put pictures of naked women in catalogs...He was referring to when Sears and Roebuck first posted pictures in their catalog of women modeling underwear...
I can see his point...Now, we Christians think nothing of it...And like the preacher says, 'we've come a long way, baby'...
When the majority of Catholics vote for the likes of Obama??? I don't think so...
“Send more money.”
“He speaks Spanish very well. I wonder how long it took for him to learn the language that well.”
His wife is South American and Spanish speaking. No doubt it’s one of his home languages!
Now you see, I, your comment points up one of the worst, most destructive practices of Western American Christianity, whether of a right wing or left wing variety, and that is the measuring of another's faith by the cheap, mundane and grossly parochial yardstick of American politics.
Romanians and Peruvians are baptized Christians. What business od you have evangelizing Christians unless you deny that Eastern Orthodox and Roman Cathoics are Christians?
If you are not Christian yourself, rather some sort of new super improved Christian upgrade, what use do you have of any of the traditional Christian beliefs?
While it is true that Democrats are much more likely to be pagans (sometimes in Christian clothing - e.g. Pelosi), not all Democrats are pagan. A surprising number of Republicans are, once you start looking closely...
