Thanks again for everyone's prayers! I can't express how much they mean to all of us - and I know they mean a lot for Matthew's family, too.

UPDATE ON AMANDA - 2/15

Amanda is feeling pretty good today. The edema (water retention) in her lower leg and ankle is lessening a bit, so the mass in her calf doesn't pull as badly, and she can move the muscle now a tiny bit (although she can only "try" once in a while sitting down and she's not allowed to use it at all).

She had another low-grade fever last night, but was feeling better Monday morning after a dose of Ibuprofen, and rest.

I was finally able to talk to her Infectious Disease doctor (we kept missing each other in the hospital). He will be calling our Insurance plan himself - said, "we know the forms and everything, don't worry" about the costs.

Since she is taking the pill form instead of the liquid until we get the insurance and medication worked out, in the meantime the doctor said that depending on what her blood tests show tomorrow (some people have a hard time absorbing the pill form), he may have her come in and get the IV medicine for a few days in the hospital. We can go to St. Clare's here though (this isn't the same hospital we first went to here, but where my husband had his back surgery 2 years ago - at that time it was so new the waiting room still faintly smelled of paint! So it's a state-of-the-art facility...). That hospital is only 15-20 mins. from home, not an hour, too! :)

We are also waiting to get her wheelchair delivered, but the doctor said he would email her hospital case worker and get that fixed for us - hopefully before she has to go in for her blood tests tomorrow as it's icy out and she's not great on her crutches -- especially while on Pain Meds! Poor thing - tipping all over the place! :)

SO, that's the latest from our home. Amanda wanted me to tell everyone thank you so much for the prayers, that it makes her feel special and very loved and cared about for everyone to take the time to pray for her! I am no less grateful to all of you!

God bless you & yours,
LR (Amanda's Mom)

PRAYER REQ UPDATE ABOVE AT POST 193. and a new Req below for a different FREEPER.

Thanks for the update. Praise God for progress.

Prayers & hugs.

Blessings,

##################

Another FREEPER Bro (U.D.) amongst my ping lists has a couple of adult sons in serious different kinds of troubles:

Son DJ recently divorced from a literally very crazy wife with 2 boys under 5 has been from one new literally not so stable to not so sane woman after another—the last of which just left his house in the last 72 hrs, after 2 weeks, IIRC . . . after more silliness. He really needs to get right with God etc.

He desperately needs to quit flailing about for affirmation, connectedness and companionship and focus on God, his sons, his job and his own psychology and emotional stability WELL BEFORE any new relationships! Sheesh!

Mummy could stand to avoid bailing him out quite so reflexively, as well.

He’s also not that long ago recovered from gastric bypass. My own sense is that he’s really entering very hazardous territory in terms of getting his life together with God, or not. He does not have endless chances, imho.

It is almost like he relentlessly snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. He’s an RN and can do a good job at a good income but even that has been somewhat at risk on occasion because of all his flakey choices and behaviors.

Son DD just got hit on the head by heavy pots was getting down off the top of the frige. Now has slurred speech etc. and is scheduled for a CAT scan today.

ANYWAY—IF ANYONE HAS ANY PARTICULAR DISCERNMENT OR WORD FROM THE LORD ON THESE TWO SONS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. It’s been a long hard haul and is hardly over.

"No News is Good News" is kind of the feeling here
Since I wrote this update, she got her blood drawn and then we were able to go to the thrift store she wanted to go to for a bit as well.
But, here is an update I wrote yesterday on FB in case anyone is interested. I'm not going to ping everyone, unless I have time in a moment to go through my list, and FReepmails... :)

A Fungus Among Us -- UPDATE ON AMANDA 2/16 - 2:00 PM

Amanda will be getting blood tests drawn at our local lab here today, to check on how much of her medication is being absorbed. Please pray that her bloodwork is good so she doesn't have to go back into the hospital for IV medication for a few days... We'd love for her to be able to stay home now if possible, of course. Good thing is, if she does need to go back in we can go to the closer hospital vs. St. Joseph's (20 min. vs. an hour away).

Amanda is doing pretty well. Her pain is well managed with Tylenol III (w/codeine), the inflammation is going down and no low-grade fever due to the Ibuprofen she is on, and she seems to be tolerating her pill form anti-fungal well, too. No bad side effects, except a little flushing/sweating when the Tylenol or the Anti-Fungal hits her bloodstream, but that doesn't last too long at all (15-20 mins?).

Amanda is kind of enjoying the fact that she's getting spoiled with her favorite juices, and foods! LOL The rest of my girls' are so awesome helping me with taking care of her. Mandy even took her meds on time this morning with her sister's help before I woke up! Manda of course feels a little guilty needing so much help, but I explained that everyone needs help at least once in their lives, and that's what families are for so not to feel bad! :)

Her wheelchair arrived this morning - we are getting it switched to one that will let her elevate her leg so she can spend time at the library and the mall with her sisters. We got a follow-up call from the hospital and they are working to get the wheelchair order changed to one with elevated leg pads. (Should be no problem at all...).

They are still pushing paperwork for her liquid anti-fungal, but her infectious disease doctor and his office should be working with our Insurance today to get that all worked out. Not too worried about that, just wish it was faster because she really does need the liquid...

So far so good! My husband's new boss is an AWESOME guy - very cool about everything going on, which given the economy and that it's a new job it's a good thing. A person kind of worries no matter what with missing work and all. His boss assured him yesterday that his missing work is the least of our worries, so that helps!

Thanks again everyone for your continued prayers for Amanda and our family! We feel well taken care of, that's for sure! :) Thank God for all the little blessings we've received along the way - and I firmly believe everyone's good wishes, prayers and love have a lot to do with that.

God bless all of you & your loved ones,
LR
