Mary of Nazareth As The Bible Defines Her
The Ignorant Fishermen Blog ^ | 4/8/10 | DJP I.F.

Posted on 04/08/2010 2:47:10 PM PDT by The Ignorant Fisherman

This study seeks to present from God's Holy Word what the Bible teaches about Mary of Nazareth, the young Jewish virgin that bore the Messiah, the Savior of the World. In this study we will seek to look at EVERY Bible verse found in the Holy Scriptures that pertains to Mary of Nazareth. Be sure to check out all the links for this study, for they will provide a deeper perspective into the person of Mary.

Introduction

In beginning this study, the clarifying statement should be made that the Bible, God’s infallible (reliable) and immaculate (perfect) Word, is the FINAL AUTHORITY when it comes to ALL matters pertaining to the truth of Christianity, which includes Mary (2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 3:16).

The Lord Jesus Christ gave countless warnings to BEWARE false teachers and false teachings. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man DECEIVE YOU (Gospel of Saint Matthew 24:4).

Saint Paul also warned us to BEWARE of false teachings and fables. Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables (2 Timothy 4:2-4).

There are four things that are important about Miriam:

1. Miriam is a daughter who has no brothers
and is descended from King David.

2. Joseph is descended from King David.
But he is from a line prohibited to inherit.

3. The inheritance exception granted for
the daughters of Zelophehad
(These were daughters who had no brothers)
is in effect See:
Numbers 26,27,36; Joshua 17; 1 Chronicles 7

4. Joseph and Miriam are married (each descended from King David)
thus providing Miriam with permanent inheritance
of the Kingship of David for her to pass on to her firstborn son: Yah'shua.

"My friend, please understand that Scripture was given to the Church, and must be understood in conjunction with Sacred Tradition, retained in the Catholic Church"

Nah. Scripture contains God's words that are written to and intended to be read and understood by everyone. Those that think that only they have the "keys" are simply gnostics in disguise.

"Mary was, indeed, born without the stain of Original Sin"

According to the gnostics, but according to Scripture, there's no such thing as original sin. It contradidcts all of Ezekiel 18 and God points out in John 9 where that idea comes from.

Yup, Mary’s perpetual virginity is a non-Biblical belief, as is her immaculate conceptipon and assumption into Heaven.

I was reading Galatians last night and one of the verses said “Greetings to Jesus’ brother.”

I wish the Catholic church would move away from this goddess-worship-in-not-so-many-terms ideology and become Biblically correct.

So when I shout “Wrong” to Methodists who say homosexuality is a gift from God, and I shout “Wrong” to Episcopalians who say abortion is a wonderful right that God gave us, then my yelling that word, “Wrong,” means I am not really a Christian?

Wrong!

Mary and Elizebeth were also from the tribe of Levi. otherwise Elizabeth would not be allowed to marry a Levitical priest.

I never said that. Following and believing God's Word is doing as He tells us. Bleating about God saving you and prospering you and waving your status about in capital letters is not following God's Word. It is simply Pharasaical.

It's call rejoicing and that is God's Word! You got a problem with the Good News. Your tradition keeps you in bondage and not in the promises of God, and all your posts show your downcast spirit vs. my spirit that is filled with the Holy Spirit where there is joy unspeakable!

You're nothing but a grumpy old christian living in bondage.

personal relationship that is so often bruited about. Where does it say that in the Bible? Chapter and verse please.

Get yourself in His Word if you want to know - it's OBVIOUS you are void of God's Word. Besides, when are you interested in Scripture? You either ignore them or twist them to suit your need.

My own righteousness? I never said 'my own'. ......Your posts blare it out in capital letters.

You continue the lie. You don't understand scripture and don't know there IS a difference of one's own righteousness and the righteousness of God in Christ. Your lack of knowledge is amazing but that's the result of following tradition - it keeps one in bondage.

God's Word REIGNS!......Not currently in this world.

His children are IN this world but not OF this world. More Scripture you don't know. His Word REIGNS in the hearts of HIS CHILDREN.

With that attitude, you may not get to collect.

GET to collect?? I am living in His promises right here and now! It's a good attitude, a joyful one, a thankful one, a peaceful one.

God is faithful and true in everything that He says and does.

2 Peter 1:4 He has given us his very great and precious promises.

There are thousands of God's promises in the Bible. There are no broken promises from God. The Scripture record shows unequivocally that God keeps His promises.

Hebrews 6:12 ...imitate those who through faith & PATIENCE inherit what has been promised.

Numbers 23:19 God is NOT a man, that he should LIE, nor a son of man, that he should CHANGE HIS MIND. Does he speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?

The Bible is a historical record of the ABSOLUTE RELIABILITY of God’s promises. The Bible's promises have always proven trustworthy, I can count on them.

Psalms 119:140 Your promises have been THOROUGHLY TESTED, and your servant loves them.

That's MY GOD! That's MY God!

You have to know Him before you say bye bye to Him.

I KNOW HIM, I KNOW HIS VOICE, I walk in His Promises and Protection and I am His and He is mine for now and through eternity - never ending. I am blessed!! Thank You, Jesus!

That is right my dear Brother. One from the line of Solomon and the other from the line of Nathan.

The Kingly line is found in Matthew. (Joesph)

The son of Man line in Luke. Mary or Miriam.

I love those genealogies!!! A few Goys in that line...Ruth, Tamar, Rahab and Bethseba.. Oh the Grace of The Almighty!! shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach

The arrogance posted was that of a man who has his own god that serves him, rather than the opposite

You interpret things according to your warped mind. NO WHERE did I say that God serves me! You are a liar, again.

I spoke what God has promised that is in HIS WORD - and I BELIEVE HIM and take HIM at His Word - like HE tells us to do! You hate it when anyone follows Scripture because you don't. You don't know His Word and you condemn anyone that follows HIS WORD. I rebuke your evil words, in the name of Jesus!

Learn humility before you preach it. Such arrogance - you don't know The Word so you can't follow it but yet preach it. LOL! YOUR tradition has made you null and void.

It's call rejoicing and that is God's Word!

No, it's called Pharasaical behaviour and Jesus preached against it. By the way, God's Word is Jesus, not Scripture. If you get your terms correct, we may have more meaningful dialogue.

You got a problem with the Good News.

No, I have a problem with the arrogant and the proud who clothe themselves in it without reading or understanding it and shouting to the world how holy they are.

Your tradition keeps you in bondage and not in the promises of God, and all your posts show your downcast spirit vs. my spirit that is filled with the Holy Spirit where there is joy unspeakable!

Your posts show sneering arrogance, pride, with all the subtlety of an attention wh*re.

You're nothing but a grumpy old christian living in bondage.

Grumpy old Christian? Wasn't that a movie? No? I prefer the term bondservant over bondage. I willingly serve God and acknowledge Him as my master. I do not pretend to use God as a magic wand to satisfy my every whim or to try to cow the passersby with the spectacle of having your own pet god.

Get yourself in His Word if you want to know - it's OBVIOUS you are void of God's Word. Besides, when are you interested in Scripture? You either ignore them or twist them to suit your need.

Since you have posted none, I will supply you with some of the words of Jesus:

John 13: 1 1 2 3 Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father. He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end. 2 The devil had already induced 4 Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot, to hand him over. So, during supper, 3 fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, 4 he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. 5 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel around his waist. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Master, are you going to wash my feet?" 7 Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later." 8 Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me." 9 Simon Peter said to him, "Master, then not only my feet, but my hands and head as well." 10 Jesus said to him, "Whoever has bathed 6 has no need except to have his feet washed, for he is clean all over; so you are clean, but not all." 11 For he knew who would betray him; for this reason, he said, "Not all of you are clean." 12 So when he had washed their feet (and) put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, "Do you realize what I have done for you? 13 You call me 'teacher' and 'master,' and rightly so, for indeed I am. 14 If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet. 15 I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do. 16 Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger 7 greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.

Let's see if you understand this.

But there is no Scriptural reference to a 'personal relationship' with God. It is just another tradition of man that has arisen since the ruination of the Reformation and the rubble of the Restoration.

You continue the lie. You don't understand scripture and don't know there IS a difference of one's own righteousness and the righteousness of God in Christ.

I might worry about those whom Jesus told us about in:

Mark 7: 6 He responded, "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;

Matthew 23: 1 1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 2 saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses. 3 Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. 4 They tie up heavy burdens 3 (hard to carry) and lay them on people's shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. 5 4 All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. 6 5 They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, 7 greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.' 8 6 As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.' You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. 10 Do not be called 'Master'; you have but one master, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you must be your servant. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

Greetings to you, Rabbi.

His children are IN this world but not OF this world. More Scripture you don't know.

You are really up to date on things that I don't know. Your god really has given you psi powers. I do know that Jesus was talking about those who believe in Him, not those who believe in the image that they see in the mirror.

GET to collect?? I am living in His promises right here and now! It's a good attitude, a joyful one, a thankful one, a peaceful one.

Christ mostly talked about our actions here and now and in our Judgement to either salvation or damnation. His promises were mostly about Heaven and hell. However, your attitude as described is very cleverly disguised.

God is faithful and true in everything that He says and does.

Yeah, but man is not.

That's MY GOD! That's MY God!

You keep prattling about your own personal god. That is not Christian. That is pagan. The Hindus keep their own personal gods in their households. Are you really Hindu?

I KNOW HIM, I KNOW HIS VOICE,

Yeah, yeah, he talks to you and you know His voice. I've asked you for an audio tape to post on this thread and some some of proof of authenticity that it is indeed God Almighty and not the lord of this world (who really seems to have claimed you if your posts are to be believed).

He is mine for now and through eternity - never ending. I am blessed!!

Yeah, yeah, you keep saying that you have your own pet god. Do you have any proofs? Certainly you cannot any proofs of any sort of connection to Christianity, not with the content of your posts thus far.

You interpret things according to your warped mind.

Warped mind? Your psychic powers given to you by your pet god are astounding indeed. I interpret things based upon Scripture, upon Church teachings, and upon previous experience with those things - in this case, your previous posts.

NO WHERE did I say that God serves me! You are a liar, again.

You say it in almost every post in our exchange. Point that liar's finger at yourself, if you please, sir.

I spoke what God has promised that is in HIS WORD - and I BELIEVE HIM and take HIM at His Word - like HE tells us to do!

I've asked you for the audio recording a couple of times now. By the way, the WORD of God is Jesus, not anything written. Get your Scriptures straight and it will be easier to debate.

You hate it when anyone follows Scripture because you don't.

You certainly haven't indicated following Scripture except as a negative example - the Pharisee in the front of the synagogue, for instance. How do you know I don't follow Scripture? Your pet god's pyschic powers?

You don't know His Word and you condemn anyone that follows HIS WORD.

I certainly do follow Jesus, Who is the Word of God. I do not appreciate those who have their own pet god and call it Jesus.

I rebuke your evil words, in the name of Jesus!

See? The good thing is that I have not posted any evil words according to the Christian faith. The bad thing is that I may appear evil to you according the PNCN faith which is handed down by the image in the mirror.

Learn humility before you preach it.

Me? I'm not bragging about God saving me and giving me riches and calling myself blessed and holy and shouting it to the world in capital letters. That darned mirror again.

Such arrogance - you don't know The Word so you can't follow it but yet preach it.

We Christians do not call Jesus 'it'. If you are referring to your pet god as Jesus, then feel free to spell it differently or with all lower case letters or something to differentiate Jesus the Christ from whatever it is that you follow.

YOUR tradition has made you null and void.

I don't have a tradition. I don't have a religion and I don't have a god. I will be ever eternally grateful that God Almighty has me, though.

“your tradition keeps you in bondage”
“all your posts show your downcast spirit”
“.. my spirit is filled with the Holy Spirit”
“You’re nothing but a grumpy old Christian living in bondage”
“It’s obvious you’re devoid of God’s Word”
“You continue to lie”

Wow—what a repertoire from someone who claims to be full of joy and the Holy Spirit.

I’m not impressed.

My friend, please understand that Scripture was given to the Church, and must be understood in conjunction with Sacred Tradition, retained in the Catholic Church, but rejected by fundamentalists such as yourself. I reiterate that you are ignorant of the true meaning of Scripture, which is determined by the one body with the authority to teach it, the Catholic Church. Mary was, indeed, born without the stain of Original Sin, through the grace of God, and is the closest creature to God.

Was it drugs, or did they hypnotize you???

Your religious tradition didn't show up till after the scripture was penned and taught...Hundreds of years after the scripture was penned...So you got it completely wrong...

Your man-made religious tradition must be understood in conjunction with the written word...And if your tradition doesn't fit scripture, dump the tradition...

You can make stuff up that you want to believe the scripture says, but that doesn't change what the scripture really says...The scripture does not say nor imply Mary was sinless...

There is nothing in the scripture you are citing to indicate that Joseph knew her in the carnal sense after. That passage only speaks to the fact that Jesus was not conceived in the normal way. There is, however, an indication in the scripture that Mary did not intend to enter into a carnal relationship with Joseph, because when she was told by the angel that she would give birth to a son, she acted as if that was not possible: “How shall this be done, because I know not man?” (Luke 1:34).

Read the Holy Scripture attentively and you will leave the Protestant fantasies behind and become Catholic.
