Some people assume or claim the MESSENGER is offensive, when it is the MESSAGE that offends people.
Now, are you claiming *I* am offensive? Do tell.
And, no not everyone who CLAIMS to be ‘preaching the gospel’ does so, some (like Mormons) preach ANOTHER (false) Gospel and as a Christian I find that offensive.
Do you subscribe to the view that all roads lead to Heaven?
1) I included "that quote" from John because I was directing my comment to Roman Catholic apologists who cannot abide by the FR RF rules.
2) Do you know who spoke those words from John 3? Do you doubt that?
3) Do you doubt the Bible was written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit?
As defined by whom?
Take your time on researching that -- after all, you've got to sift through literally thousands of doctrines and denominations, all of which claim to represent the True Church.
Which one is the right one?
I’d say
interesting.
Sometimes beautiful.
"We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised." --1 Corinthians 4:10
Your doctrine is the one true and correct one, then?
thx thx

Roast ox! It’s what’s for dinner. lol
I try to...
I wasn’t sure if you had stopped doing so. Some giant RCC poster from the FR past has stopped....is it teofilo???
And perhaps there's a difference between the sort of offense that the Gospel offers, as compared to what a preacher might offer.
The Gospel offends by making us uncomfortable about our own beliefs and behavior. A good preacher can do that, too.
But preachers can also be just plain offensive -- by being dismissive, arrogant, disrespectful, hypocritical, and so on. They may refer to the Gospel, they may even believe it ... but at the same time they have it in their power to chase people away.
If a preacher does that -- is he really preaching the Gospel? Or is he just being a prideful jerk?
just an fyi, I was quoting Rnmom, my comments were BELOW the dashes.
Wow - I just learned something new about Quix! It's learning about each other's differences (both big and small) that makes and keeps the Religion Forum constantly interesting, engaging and entertaining.
Case in point: I prefer my french fries with steak sauce or ketchup.
AMEN!
You would think that disassociation would cause them to look inward to see why the truth makes them so uncomfortable that they are forced to call FReepers names and hurl other personal insults.
Some offensive messengers refuse to believe that they themselves are offensive. Some people are convinced that offensiveness in a message is a measure of its truth. I find the message of the mohammedans offensive ... is that an indicator of its truth?
Now, are you claiming *I* am offensive?
I have made no personal remarks about anyone on this thread. I will continue that policy.
I CANNOT control what you or anyone else will choose to take personally, nor am I interested in trying.
And, no not everyone who CLAIMS to be preaching the gospel does so
Certainly not everyone who claims to be 'preaching the gospel' is preaching what I think is the Gospel. In fact, what many folks preach who claim to be 'preaching the gospel' is contrary to what I think is the Gospel. A third party, trying to discern who is preaching the correct Gospel might have many criteria by which to judge. I suggest that offensiveness, whether of the preacher or the message, is a poor criterion for such judgment.
LOLOL!
Way too much just to say, “Mind your manners”.
The post in question contained a supposed inflammatory post.. Posting something like that without citation causes one to see the original post..
And my comment was a test. And you failed, like a half dozen others already
In other words there was no such post and when questioned it suddenly becomes a "test"
Funny but the one that failed the integrity test is not anyone that replied..
Does it? Has everyone who ever heard the Gospel been offended by it? What do you mean by "offended"?
