Abuse of Caucus [whiner's caucus]
Self | 22 Feb 2011 | Natural Law

Posted on 02/22/2011 2:53:04 PM PST by Natural Law

An alarming trend is developing in the Free Republic Religion Forum in which a caucus identifier is being claimed for non-existent or impossibly defined groups. With the caucuses being self defined we see nonsense like the Sola Scriptura Caucus. Of course it doesn’t mean all Scripture, only the thread initiators or Forum Moderators definition of Scripture. Jews who believe in the Scripture of the Old Testament are excluded. Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, and Jehovah’s Witnesses are excluded even though they believe in the sufficiency of their own versions of Scripture. The not so transparent purpose of these faux caucuses is clearly to exclude a group of FReepers in a modern day repetition of “Whites Only” and “Irish Need Not Apply” prejudice. If this is allowed to stand what will we see next; caucuses so narrowly defined so as to only include one’s bridge club or to exclude an individual FReeper? How about a caucus designation for everyone but citizens from New York? How about a men’s only caucus? How about a caucus for those of us who drive BMWs? And what is being discussed in these faux caucus threads? Critical doctrinal issues such as ruggedized aircraft, home schooling, and civil unrest in Egypt. Give me a break!

how is it boring? We have endeavored to have caucus threads, after years of respecting Roman Catholic caucus threads, Jewish threads, Mormon threads, whatever, and now when we ask for the same respect, just like Obama’s Democrats, a lot of screaming ensues. what’s up?

“I should have assumed they used Vatican Cult daffynitionary meanings.”

As opposed to “Sola Scriptura isn’t in the Scriptures”

lack of reason, logic... and ALMOST ALL of Gods Word lemmings.

Think about it, they're saying that without a limit on who can join their causes, there's no telling how someone will interpret the Scripture. Is there a more self-defeating statement they could make?

Leave them to it.

"so a protestant Caucus is just that"

This isn't about Protestant Caucuses, it is about self-defined caucuses based only on an individual posters beliefs. If you want a Protestant Caucus you already have one.

However, I'm willing to bet that there isn't even consensus among the Protestants on what Sola Scriptura means or any codified standard for what differentiates scripture from Scripture. Absent any authority like a Magisterium it means whatever each individual believes it to mean so it is only arbitrarily enforceable and certainly not defensible.

“Why can’t Protestants have caucus threads? Why are you so threatened?”

LOL...context is a wonderful thing.

It is the Catholic/Orthodox Caucus that was zotted which is total bullzit....

I MISSED THIS....WHY IS THIS THE CASE?...I mean besides the fact that Proddy RMs take care of Proddy’s.

Here is info on Voice of the Martyrs which sola scriptura caucus has used on one posting.>{?
From Catholic Answers:

One of our parishioners has requested that a speaker from the group "Voice of the Martyrs" (www.persecution.com) come in to speak at our church about the persecution of Christians around the world. I work in the parish center so I was sent to a nearby Baptist church to hear the presentation.

The speaker was not Catholic and his presentation never addressed the plight of Catholics in countries like China etc. They do a lot of evangelizing (fundamentalist Christian it appears) to "pastors" in the trouble areas, but not to Catholics. They also distribute Bibles (not Catholic approved) and solicit money to aid in this effort.

In reporting back to the Pastor of our church I felt troubled that there was a major doctrinal issue in bringing this person in to our church to advocate a group that is clearly not Catholic in its beliefs and to assist in the distribution of Bibles not conforming to our beliefs.

Am I wrong in this? Does anyone know of a Catholic organization that could address the same issue of persecution with our parish?Yes...while they do good things I cannot recommend them to speak in your Church...and yes it is from a Protestant point of view often...

Here are some Catholic ones:

Also google trinitarian international solidarity (also called S.I.T.) they work on behalf of Persecuted Christians and are Catholic --they have a US contact in MD

very simple, believers who believe in God’s Word, no magisterium, no tradition, no Virgin Mary and no man-made popes and saints

Yeah.

That was one of the reasons I decided to wade in on the Religion forum in the beginning.

I got tired of seeing the RC’s slice the Proddys so routinely, liberally, harsly, inaccurately, lyingly, unwarrantedly with so much protected impunity.

PRAISE GOD FOR OUR CURRENT RM.

I don’t understand how you can have a caucus defined by a principle that leads believers to radically contradictory beliefs. It is irrational.

INDEED.

WAILING AND WHINING . . . particularly at Proddys . . . seems to be INSTITUTIONALIZED and then loaded into their DNA.

So what do you care? As long as the Caucus thread does not talk about any excluded group it should be fine. I believe that was the original idea behind it. None of the Caucus threads talked about the EO, or the RCC, so why crash the threads?
