Christlike Love
LDS.org ^ | 30 November 2010 | Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Posted on 04/12/2011 9:26:54 PM PDT by K-Ben-K

"Love is what inspired our Heavenly Father to create our spirits; it is what led our Savior to the Garden of Gethsemane to make Himself a ransom for our sins. Love is the grand motive of the plan of salvation; it is the source of happiness, the ever-renewing spring of healing, the precious fountain of hope. As we extend our hands and hearts toward others in Christlike love, something wonderful happens to us. Our own spirits become healed, more refined, and stronger. We become happier, more peaceful, and more receptive to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit."

Do you believe all Churches teach the same faith and requirements?

All "churches"? (No)

Are all "churches" 'Christian'? (No)

You see, now you've broadened it from "Christian" -- what I responded to -- to "churches."

Is all green currency of the same tender? (No)

If we have counterfeits for watches, $, etc...why wouldn't 'Christian' counterfeits likewise exist among churches.

But I'll repeat: There's one Christian faith; and there are its counterfeits that exist.

The Christian denominations that exist are of the same faith -- even as they differ on secondary teachings.

In my experience, Paul nailed it when he said, that he became all things to all men in order to win over some.

And I am merely doing a subset of this - challenging the False teachers.

Yes, we have a few ex-mormons that were 'won over' by our two by four upside the head approach:

Szonian, Sentinel...

From the book of Jude, since we seemed to have one with a need for scripture...

17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.[f]

I cannot make anyone listen to me..

Like many Americans, you deeply confuse imposition (what many Americans are rightfully concerned about) and exposition (what most Americans don't even approach the "borderline" between that and imposition)

Just because we shy away from "imposing" doesn't mean that we don't have a voice and that people aren't listening. Mormons we know about -- and Mormons we don't know about -- have been deeply influenced toward the one True God by what they've read on FR.

Am I saying everything said under the banner of "outreach" has either been God-glorifying or edifying to Mormons? (No)

But even Paul, when he was approached about people who preach Christ from less than God-glorifying reasons, concluded:

15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. (Phil. 1:15-18)

What always amazes on FR is how many people, Mormon and non-Mormon -- even self-proclaimed Christians -- quickly jump on a thread and start judging other posters' motives as to why they post...as if they were in a position to psycho-analyze complete strangers from a distance about all things inward.

Even the apostle Paul showed he wasn't worried about "motives" in the above passage. Paul's conclusion: What does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice." (Phil. 1:18)

Here, in an earlier post you were so worried that people were actually treating Paul as a Model/example.

Well, I say it's past time that Christians start treating Paul as one...and they could start with Paul's attitude about judging motives and rejoicing that the Gospel is preached!!!

It is impossible for Mormons to haveor demonstrate "Christ like love" when they do not believe in the Christ of the Bible but in "another 'christ'"; the false "christ" of Mormonism.

It is impossible for Mormons to have or demonstrate "Christ like love" when they do not posess the Holy Spirit because!

Wow. These statements really are pathetic.

Since you like Paul so much, try reading Galations where he wishes the false teachers there (judazers) would go all the way and emasculate themselves. Don’t think he’d have much to do with your kumbayah.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I needed this and I knew the moment I read your post. 15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.

16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.

I have learned something that I have forgot and I feel quite ashamed.

But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

Thanks, this is perfect

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I needed this and I knew the moment I read your post.

(Well, I'd say, your welcome, your welcome, your welcome, except that your tri-thank yous are obviously exercised toward the apostle Paul & the Holy Spirit...so on that praiseworthy note, I join you in that chorus: "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Holy Spirit for speaking through Paul.")

Minus the true Holy Spirit operating in those truly in Christ, love that wasn't tinged in some way with self-benefits would be an impossibility.

For the TBM seeking a celestial kingdom, they know they are trying to earn godhood via good works.

If good works boomerang to the benefit of the "good worker," they are engaged in various degrees in selfish behavior. It might be 95/5; 90/10; 80/20...who knows but God in terms of how much a given act is truly others-centered vs. self-centered...but if you pollute pure water with 5% pollutants, it contaminates the whole pool.

"Boomerang" good works inwardly erodes true love.

It's part of the same philosophy re: commissioned sales. A commissioned sales person, in my opinion, is more likely to be motivated by the self in selling you something than one who doesn't accrue an additional benefit to them.

It is impossible for Mormons to haveor demonstrate "Christ like love" when they do not believe in the Christ of the Bible but in "another 'christ'"; the false "christ" of Mormonism. [JMouse007]

So if you think that any ole "Christ" will do...then obviously you have no problem with the "Jehovah's Witness" christ or the "Christian Science" christ or the "Moonie" christ or the "New Age" christ...whatever people believe about Jesus Christ becomes "kosher" and wields no negative impact in their life, eh?

You know; the fire could hurt you, maybe, but I love you so much I'm going to let you learn on your own.

I don't want to come across as pushy or hateful or rebuking or judgemental.

Some things MATTER a lot!

The important thing about MORMONism is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, a FALSE Christ is preached. And because of this I ...

... will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.
