Nebraska bishop: Catholic politicians who support Planned Parenthood should be denied Communion

by Patrick B. Craine

Thursday Apr 14, 2011 17:30 EST

LINCOLN, Nebraska, April 14, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Though not “formally excommunicated,” Catholic politicians who support Planned Parenthood or other measures facilitating abortion are “placing themselves outside of the pale of the Church’s doctrine” and should be denied Communion, says Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska.

The bishop told LifeSiteNews that Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider, should be seen an enemy of the Catholic Church because “it advocates doctrines, immoral activities which are contrary to ... the teachings of Almighty God.”

Though not “formally excommunicated"

They excommunicate themselves. It's just as binding. What they need now is to be trespassed from Church property.

They should all be excommunicated publicly and permanently.

Catholic politicians should follow Church teachings in office or they should remain private citizens.

Of course I’ll be so bold as to state that one CANNOT be both a Democrat and a Catholic.

It would not hurt Cardinal Justin Rigali and other Pennsylvania Bishops/Archbishops to toss Senator Bob Casey, Jr. from the Catholic Church.

Additionally, Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond of New Orleans, Louisiana should toss Senator Landrieu from the Catholic Church.

Oh, for the good old days!

Bishop Bruskewitz is a vertebrate ordinary, no doubt.

Why shouldn’t they be excommunicated? Do they make out big offering checks or what?

They excommunicate themselves. It's just as binding.

Would be great, though, to publicly humiliate them with cameras blazing right after showing them a picture of an aborted human baby.

As someone else posted, they do excommunicate themselves.

Whether or not the local Bishop tells them in another matter.

In 2008, Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) made the issue about this public -- thinking the public would side with him and the bishop would background.

This backfired in Kennedy's face, which is now why is the retired Kennedy that is a former member of Congress.

Don't mess with Bishop Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island.

Exactly! They have excommunicated themselves. They have no king but Cesar. Their loyalty to the Democratic Party surpassed the their faith long ago.

God bless Bishop Bruskewitz. If only other Bishops, all of them, would take a stand based on what the Church supposedly stands for. The way the Church treats pro-death “Catholic” congressman is a disgrace.

“...62 Catholic Congressman...voted against defunding PP...”

Bishops, you have failed your calling. Feed your flock.

I told my ex-Congressman Patrick Murphy, at my polling place, that he is Latae sententiae excommunicated and that his wife, the mother of their children, doesn’t have a valid Catholic marriage blessed by a priest.
I told him that by pretending that he is a Catholic, he is a fraud.
Two supporters came up after I went in to vote and asked what was that? Murphy said, “Nothing, nothing.”

Considering that Jesus said something about a great commandment being “Thou shalt love thy neighbor” and St. Paul taught that those who eat and drink of the body and blood of Christ unworthily are guilty of “profaning the body and blood” what would constitute unworthy participation more than doing so while anathematizing one’s fellow Christians?
