>Darnright, I’m so sorry over the loss of your little pet guinea hen. I hope the story of my mom’s loss didn’t create more pain in your hearts. I just wasn’t thinking. Prayers of comfort and consolation for you and your husband.<

Not at all, floralamiss. Actually, your story made me smile because it just makes me realize we’re not alone in our attachment to our feathered or our scaley charges.

On the topic of Alice, I’m making my way through the thread with fingers crossed, in hope that Sal and he have been reunited.

LOL! "PEAS"......That's funny. I wonder if your neighbors thought you were announcing ever time you went to the restroom? :)

Prayers up that your baby comes home to you today!

Put the chicken in!

My gramma had both and they ran as one big noisy pack!

He needs *somebody* ASAP.

I’ve had chickens sink into despair when they wound up alone and Guineas are far more intelligent birds.

He needs a buddy!

Put on your shoes and go toss him a chicken right now!

[I’ll wait until you get back]

:)

I’m not sure what they thought but they gave me a wide berth whenever they saw me.

:)

Just did another recon.

No snake.

I guess the “furniture gets it” today.

bump

I like snakes myself (all animals, really). Alice is beautiful. Not knowing where a pet is drives you frantic.

Prayers going up that you find her.

Is he nocturnal or diurnal?

More crepuscular [dawn and dusk] actually although they are up rambling around at night, sometimes.

Feeding night always takes place beginning around 4:30 am because that’s when they’re most likely to eat eagerly.

No matter what you do with artificial lighting, somehow the little goofs know what time is *really* is....:)

I can’t speak much for Salamander’s snakes but I do like her..a lot.

I hope she finds em.

Mine used to get out and curl up somewhere....I’d find them sooner or later....usually in a box.

I liked em better after I discovered tongs were superior to my own hands when feeding them...especially live food.

I know when I cannot find something I always shoot up prayers and he usually answers.....

I grew to like snakes because of Steve Irwin and then my sons lacrosse coach had snakes and I got to hold some of his beautiful snakes including his Ball Pythons...I was shocked at how much I enjoyed them.....

Please keep us posted....

I only got to the thread today & read all the way through in hopes Mommy and Alice (bad boy!) had been reunited by now. Alas...

>>> “My Ibizans and Portuguese Podengo sniff the black snake’s trail beside the house with “hunting tails” going all the time and they’ve shown no interest in anything inside the house at all.”

I was going to suggest something along the lines of a trained scent hound because it’s obvious my dogs can smell where my resident black snake has recently been. Silly black lab actually flops & rolls in the spot, or did it defecate there too? Been out there for years. I love the fellow/gal because it occupies a niche where otherwise a copperhead might take up residence. I do not need a copper taking refuge in my basement!

Um, along with turning furniture inside out and dispatching (!) hubby to explore the attic - I like the idea of a flyer with his pic and a reward distributed to neighbors and local vets/herpitologists. Hillbilly shovel hands might be stayed by the thought of landing a cash prize in place of a useless ole dead snake, no?

Another idea - this feels kinda weird, but you never know until you ask - how do BPs find mates out in the wild? Some kind of scent perhaps collected by herp researchers? From what you wrote, Sal, he might not know what to do with a date if he had one *nervous giggle* yet I bet he’d still find a girlie snake’s pheromones irresistable...

I sure hope you find the little rascal safe and sound! I can’t imagine cuddling a non-fluffy critter myself, but your posts and others about beloved non-furry pets make for a great read. Pretty thing, dunno how that coloring can be called pastel.

I’ve heard the same thing about Kings. Been kinda tempted if we ever found another around here...

Hope you find him and he’s doing well.

I’d sit down on the floor and start talking to Alice as if you were holding him. Same tone of voice, everything. Move thine self, room to room, wall to wall and just talk.

Perhaps it could draw him out.

Or. Plan B. You KNOW how afraid of snakes I am, Sal...if I had the money to fly there, I could merely walk onto your property and he’d chuckle to himself on his way to get me...

Have you tried putting a heating pad on the floor?

Worked for a friend of mine once.

Spunky,

YOU are a PEOPLE, who supposedly has intelligence. Use it, get informed. A Ball Python is no threat to humans.

Salamander, prayers up that you find your pet. I have a Ball also, not a Pastel though. His name is Callaway.

I have had some escapes (2) over the years, both of them Kingsnakes. One was found travelling across the kitchen floor, the other in a dirty clothes hamper. Finding yours will probably be ‘by chance’. Just keep your eyes open.

As an aside, Callaway will also not touch a ‘still’ prey. I feed frozen thawed and while my Kings will eat them anyway, Callway requires that it move, his food must be dangled and move for him to take it.

Not all Pythons are large. Education does not hurt.
