This actually be the Wisconsin Democrat word for the day. As in bend down and kiss it, Democrats
I still genuflect even though I can’t get all the way down like I used to. And sometimes I have to hold on to the pew to get back up again. But I will genuflect as long as my knees allow me to. (I’m 64). My two granddaughters, who attend public schools but did go to Catechism classes, do not genuflect. My daughter, their mother, does not attend Mass at all, so they attend with me when they’re home with their mother (Dad isn’t Catholic). I always call them back to genuflect and they look at me like I have two heads.
I notice the norm on the altar now is head bowing. And some of the head bows leave much to be desired. No resemblance to anything reverent. I still see some of the older priests genuflect and some newer, more devout priests do so as well. But when the ushers, many of them young, go up to the front of the Church before taking up the collections and they give a half-hearted head bow, I cringe.
you’ll have to do extras when you’re up to snuff.
