Skip to comments.“Hitting Bottom” – Matt Archbold lays it out (Must Read!)

I can’t help but think that America is now like your brother who can’t keep a job, drinks too much, is constantly asking for money, and oh, has a crazy bad addiction that’s destroying his life.
You tried just lending him money every time he promised to go straight but he just ain’t gonna’ do it. At some point you accept that he’s going to have to hit bottom. You don’t know what bottom looks like but you know that he’s racing towards it. It might be jail, death, brain damage. Nobody knows. But at some point he’ll hear the thud and wake up face first in a pool of his own vomit and he’ll have to make the decision to turn over and get back up or just die.
And that’s where America is heading. This country is going to have to go absolutely bankrupt and hit bottom before it starts getting better. This country is borrowing money from children that they’re killing in the womb in record numbers. That, is not a recipe for success.
And of the children that we do have, many of them are being born into single parent homes where their chances of spending some time in jail are increased while their economic outlook is severely diminished.
For too many years we slept. Maybe we saw it coming, maybe we just suspected that everything was going to hell.
Leftists have taken over our education establishment, giving them firm control over what our children learn (unless you homeschool or have a great Catholic or private school). The left has long controlled the media and therefore control what people hear about current events. So think about it, they have control over the teaching of history and the present.
And why didn’t we think we were going to be routed? And what did we do to prevent this? We talked about school choice but got weak kneed when the fight got bloody. We snarked about the media and congratulated ourselves on how many interesting and funny ways we tweeted that Chris Matthews was stupid. Here’s the thing, pretty much everyone in the media agrees with him. It’s an MSNBC media. Some just hide it a little better.
If you want to understand the true power of the media, this election is a prime example. The media propped up a corrupt and egotistical ideologue throughout this entire campaign. They ignored Solyndra. They ignored Benghazi. They covered up the economic ruin we were inviting on ourselves. Sure, FoxNews and the new media have hurt the media establishment but what the MSM showed in this election is that we can snark it up all we want, they’ve got one hand firmly on the levers of power and the other around our throats.
But here's the thing. I've gotten to the point now where I'm thinking about the fact that I have five kids, a wonderful wife, and a good parish. My life is good and full of love. We try to give to charity and work with a home for unwed mothers. We'll continue with these things. I'm focusing on what I can do in my life. I'll continue to write and work but I know where this country is heading.
I know where the country is going. I'm not going there and neither is my family. The Church will continue to exist whatever happens to this country. The country's barreling downwards and when it hits bottom it's going to explode like shrapnel. My job is to protect my family from the flying pieces. And then we'll start gathering the pieces.
The only good news in all this is that I think that we'll hit bottom awfully quick because we're heading there awfully fast.
Why do people think that after we hit bottom things will come smelling like roses and looking up. The only thing we'll get after a world-wide economic collapse is a new world-wide currency and a world-wide government. America won't get rebuilt into something better. How did that Arab Spring democracy thing in Egypt work out for ya??

Even non-Catholics will get a lot out of reading this.
By saying this to me, I could readily infer that you think I don’t.
It was not my intention to imply that at all...honestly.
“It is permitted to mourn what is lost.”
Absolutely! It is also prudent to fully understand the horror ahead of us...and then, get to work!
Each of us...must unite more fully with the faithful and like-minded in our local area of influence. I am talking even down to the neighborhood area...for prayer and preparation.
Another thought: Let’s not forget the true story of Corrie Ten Boom.
“When I was a little girl , I went to my father and said, Daddy, I am afraid that I will never be strong enough to be a martyr for Jesus Christ. Tell me, said Father, When you take a train trip to Amsterdam, when do I give you the money for the ticket? Three weeks before?
No, Daddy, you give me the money for the ticket just before we get on the train. That is right, my father said, and so it is with Gods strength. Our Father in Heaven knows when you will need the strength to be a martyr for Jesus Christ. He will supply all you need just in time.”
That is why rehab is the cure.
“Absolutely! It is also prudent to fully understand the horror ahead of us...and then, get to work!”
This is a little different from “things will hit bottom quickly, I'll take care of me and mine and protect them from the shrapnel, and then we'll just go about picking up the pieces.”
“Each of us...must unite more fully with the faithful and like-minded in our local area of influence. I am talking even down to the neighborhood area...for prayer and preparation.”
Each of us must live justly, and within that, do what we can to protect our own. We must pray and wait on God. The “solutions” required by our nation are no longer within our grasp. Things will not get better as a result of our efforts. We are beyond any natural help or assistance.
Things will get worse. There will be no overall relief. I doubt that things will hurtle downwards. The decline, I think, will be kind of gradual, not to alarm anyone. Economically, we'll see some ups and downs. Unemployment will likely decline over time. But so will full-time employment. Many more people will be employed on a part-time, casual basis. There will be fewer "careers." Health care will gradually, but steadily deteriorate. Fewer people will own their own homes. Fewer people will start new businesses. Illegitimacy and fatherlessness will become the norm. People will still attend church, but they will increasingly pay God lip service. The government will grow larger and larger, but not all at once. Just a little each day. Our rights will be increasingly restricted. Not all at once, just a little each day.
The poor will grow poorer, and eventually, they will grow desperately poor. Laws that protect the innocent, things like age of consent laws, things like laws that protect the young, the old, the innocent from abuse, will be stricken as "impositions on freedom." Or something like that. I imagine in time every law concerning the abuse of drugs will be stricken, every sexual act, practice and arrangement will be made legal.
And most folks will submit because, well, most folks will approve.
There could be a “bottom” someday, but from our human perspective, to our human vision, the pit into which we have fallen is bottomless.
We must pray and wait on God, meanwhile doing what we can to preserve what little we can for ourselves and our own. We pray that God delivers us from the time of trial when we pray the Our Father. It appears that He may have permitted us to be delivered into a time of trial, in spite of our prayers.
It may not be entirely vain to try to exert what little power that we can in this pagan society, at least to mitigate around the edges what is coming.
But primarily, we need to pray and wait on God. A little fasting and penance won't hurt, either. Perhaps He will call our nation to repentance and we will have a rebirth of righteousness and freedom. Or perhaps it's his will that America is pretty much over, at least as it has existed for over 200 years.
But we will not pick up the pieces. We will not put things back together. We will not make things right.
The “worse case” situation will be a second civil war which would make the first one look like a day at the beach.
Because of my career, I come into contact with a lot of people who have various life issues. By in large, they do learn when they hit bottom. Many keep digging till they totally destroy all those around themselves.
And when they hit bottom, they don't accept responsibility, they keep blaming everyone else.
You can only rebuild and change if you
1. Want to change.
2. Accept responsibility.
Most people are not capable of doing that.
B F L !
The wanters are at our door step. Their leader is Barack Hussein Obama.
WE can't do it. That is the point. God MAY do it, but we should not expect Him to do so. To many people put God in a nice little box and expect Him to always bail them out. God does what God does. Sometimes that means we get to climb the tree.
The wanters are at our door step. Their leader is Barack Hussein Obama.
I'm not sure whether you mean to agree with what you quoted, or whether you posted in contradistinction to what I said.
In either case, we are in agreement.
We must wait on God. He will do what He will do. Perhaps He will call our nation to repentance and so renew us. Perhaps He won't.
As followers of the Lord, all we can do is wait and pray. Obviously, we can and must continue to practice corporal and spiritual works of mercy, to do our best to mitigate the personal suffering that will come. We must continue to try to live justly, and to ask God for the grace of personal repentance and continual conversion, so that we better reflect him in our lives. To the degree that we any longer have any political influence (and we will have significant residual influence for some years to come), we can use that to perhaps smooth some of the sharper edges of the new regime to alleviate human suffering.
But your point is my point. We aren't going to fix this mess. It is beyond our abilities. It is beyond the natural order.
At my doorstep, they’ll be met with a 20 gauge, pump action.....
I fully understand this. I have a family member who works in a clinic for drug abusers.
It is also why I firmly believe that our answers will be found in SPIRITUAL solutions. The ROOT cause of what is happening in this nation is of a SPIRITUAL nature.
13 All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. 14 Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. 15 If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. 16 But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
I'll do what I can for my family and those around me. But I spent 25 years in the military, much of it overseas, and returned home to find it looted and burned. Short of a massive revival and a turning to God, there is no future for America. The teat-suckers have taken over. The best I can do is to try to protect my little piece of the remainder against further deprivation.
Curse the New York Times for eternity... and the suck-up newspapers that copy them...
If the central Federal government is incapable of holding “clean” elections...then the only ones that matter are the statehouses at this point.
