Skip to comments.“Hitting Bottom” – Matt Archbold lays it out (Must Read!)

I can’t help but think that America is now like your brother who can’t keep a job, drinks too much, is constantly asking for money, and oh, has a crazy bad addiction that’s destroying his life.
You tried just lending him money every time he promised to go straight but he just ain’t gonna’ do it. At some point you accept that he’s going to have to hit bottom. You don’t know what bottom looks like but you know that he’s racing towards it. It might be jail, death, brain damage. Nobody knows. But at some point he’ll hear the thud and wake up face first in a pool of his own vomit and he’ll have to make the decision to turn over and get back up or just die.
And that’s where America is heading. This country is going to have to go absolutely bankrupt and hit bottom before it starts getting better. This country is borrowing money from children that they’re killing in the womb in record numbers. That, is not a recipe for success.
And of the children that we do have, many of them are being born into single parent homes where their chances of spending some time in jail are increased while their economic outlook is severely diminished.
For too many years we slept. Maybe we saw it coming, maybe we just suspected that everything was going to hell.
Leftists have taken over our education establishment, giving them firm control over what our children learn (unless you homeschool or have a great Catholic or private school). The left has long controlled the media and therefore control what people hear about current events. So think about it, they have control over the teaching of history and the present.
And why didn’t we think we were going to be routed? And what did we do to prevent this? We talked about school choice but got weak kneed when the fight got bloody. We snarked about the media and congratulated ourselves on how many interesting and funny ways we tweeted that Chris Matthews was stupid. Here’s the thing, pretty much everyone in the media agrees with him. It’s an MSNBC media. Some just hide it a little better.
If you want to understand the true power of the media, this election is a prime example. The media propped up a corrupt and egotistical ideologue throughout this entire campaign. They ignored Solyndra. They ignored Benghazi. They covered up the economic ruin we were inviting on ourselves. Sure, FoxNews and the new media have hurt the media establishment but what the MSM showed in this election is that we can snark it up all we want, they’ve got one hand firmly on the levers of power and the other around our throats.
But here's the thing. I've gotten to the point now where I'm thinking about the fact that I have five kids, a wonderful wife, and a good parish. My life is good and full of love. We try to give to charity and work with a home for unwed mothers. We'll continue with these things. I'm focusing on what I can do in my life. I'll continue to write and work but I know where this country is heading.
I know where the country is going. I'm not going there and neither is my family. The Church will continue to exist whatever happens to this country. The country's barreling downwards and when it hits bottom it's going to explode like shrapnel. My job is to protect my family from the flying pieces. And then we'll start gathering the pieces.
The only good news in all this is that I think that we'll hit bottom awfully quick because we're heading there awfully fast.
B F L !
The wanters are at our door step. Their leader is Barack Hussein Obama.
WE can't do it. That is the point. God MAY do it, but we should not expect Him to do so. To many people put God in a nice little box and expect Him to always bail them out. God does what God does. Sometimes that means we get to climb the tree.
The wanters are at our door step. Their leader is Barack Hussein Obama.
I'm not sure whether you mean to agree with what you quoted, or whether you posted in contradistinction to what I said.
In either case, we are in agreement.
We must wait on God. He will do what He will do. Perhaps He will call our nation to repentance and so renew us. Perhaps He won't.
As followers of the Lord, all we can do is wait and pray. Obviously, we can and must continue to practice corporal and spiritual works of mercy, to do our best to mitigate the personal suffering that will come. We must continue to try to live justly, and to ask God for the grace of personal repentance and continual conversion, so that we better reflect him in our lives. To the degree that we any longer have any political influence (and we will have significant residual influence for some years to come), we can use that to perhaps smooth some of the sharper edges of the new regime to alleviate human suffering.
But your point is my point. We aren't going to fix this mess. It is beyond our abilities. It is beyond the natural order.
At my doorstep, they’ll be met with a 20 gauge, pump action.....
I fully understand this. I have a family member who works in a clinic for drug abusers.
It is also why I firmly believe that our answers will be found in SPIRITUAL solutions. The ROOT cause of what is happening in this nation is of a SPIRITUAL nature.
13 All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. 14 Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. 15 If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. 16 But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
I'll do what I can for my family and those around me. But I spent 25 years in the military, much of it overseas, and returned home to find it looted and burned. Short of a massive revival and a turning to God, there is no future for America. The teat-suckers have taken over. The best I can do is to try to protect my little piece of the remainder against further deprivation.
Curse the New York Times for eternity... and the suck-up newspapers that copy them...
If the central Federal government is incapable of holding “clean” elections...then the only ones that matter are the statehouses at this point.
He nails it.
The only thing of value and importance is eternal.
Christians kept that in mind when they were being fed to the lions.
Yeah, it’s bad now, and it could be worse, and it will get worse, but while they can affect the body, they cannot touch the soul unless we give it to them.
And to that ST, I agree.
Let God use us to save who we can. Help who we can. And realize that we can not save them all. We can’t. God may, but we can’t.
Increasingly, we Christians are the outsiders. I have read history. I know what comes next. No matter what they say in Disney movies, dissent is not tolerated by the State. There will be a crack down.
And despite what most Christians in the US believe, I fear it will be very successful. Most are half apostate anyway. Most priests, pastors, leaders, etc are more afraid of being “mean” than being Good.
I fear for my child and my Godchildren. I don’t fear for myself.
Sorry to shout.
To many here, and on other boards, are cheering for collapse. They seem to think that after you burn it all down, it will be easier to rebuild. They fail to realize that after the house burns down, and all the tools in it, there may not be any quick way to rebuild anything.
And just today, I heard that a lot of people nearby are getting laid off by a major equipment maker. On the news, they are blaming the GOP for not agreeing with Obama. The union workers don’t blame the policies for making the plants shut down, they blame the ones who oppose the policy.
Who would have thought that half the people in the US would be blind enough not to see through O? He could well be the anti-Christ. Remember God will send delusion to those who are not His. O doesnt have to be able to deceive.
The problem is 50% of the country is full of people who hate us (conservatives) more than they hate anything else in the world & they are willing to blow this whole thing up & take the whole nation down to satisfy their blood-lust against conservatives.
Just go on any liberal blog & listen to the way thy talk about us. The vile filth is they spread is psychotic.
Yet the suffering of the Christians will produce the fruit of new believers.
Since this is a Catholic thread, I think it's important that Protestants reading it remember that Roman Catholics honor St. Augustine. The Christian experience — not just the Protestant experience, but the Christian experience — is that people will never truly turn to God with their whole hearts until they know in the deepest recesses of their hearts that they can't self-correct, and nothing they do is good enough to please God. Christianity is a religion of God's grace, and God's people generally don't realize that until they've hit bottom, need His grace, and know nothing they can ever do is good enough to please Him.
A faithful Roman Catholic does understand the tremendous power of bondage to sin and the need for grace — we may have far more in common with a humble Catholic woman who prays faithfully every day to withstand the trials of life than we do with some “health and wealth” gospel preachers who sound more like Pelagius than any Protestant of the 1600s.
Threads like this are a key part of why I believe evangelical Protestants can, should, and in some cases must work together with Roman Catholics in the sphere of the civil magistrate. We have far more in common with each other than we have with the liberals who are trying to, as this thread discusses, advocate views which will destroy our country and have the effect of knocking us to the ground.
The problem is that not everyone who hits bottom realizes where their only comfort in life and in death lies — they may just lay on the ground blaming everybody around until they die choking in the vomit of their own sins. Let us never forget that just because somebody has hit rock bottom doesn't mean they're going to get up again. They may well be utterly destroyed, unable to fight anymore, and die a sinful and miserable death.
Applying that to America — four years ago, I think a fair number of Obama voters truly didn't understand what they were getting. They were voting for our first black president, or voting against high gas prices, or voting against the perceived failures of President George W. Bush and the Republican Party, or just upset with the economic problems of 2008. The voters four days ago didn't have that excuse. President Obama has had four years to make clear what he wanted to do, and Americans decided this week, by a slim majority, that they like the direction in which he is taking us.
As a nation, we have now deliberately and with a high hand decided to re-elect a president who advocates evil and wicked policies. God will not overlook deliberate and willful actions, and will hold us accountable, either here or in eternity.
May God have mercy on us and our country. We certainly don't deserve it.
Why We Are Done For
So, if you read the conservative political class today, they tell us we don’t have much to worry about. The US is still center-right. Elections come, elections go, we will soldier on. Lost a battle, haven’t lost the war, etc.
Mind you, these are the same people who told us this was the most important election in our lifetimes, perhaps in the history of the Republic. But now that we’ve lost, we’re apparently supposed to say “Ah, well. We’ll getcha next time.”
And here is where we part ways.
Two by Two
There are two kinds of conservatives: economic conservatives and social conservatives.
When the Tea Party formed, it was formed from equal parts of the two. The fight within the party was over which one would win out. The Republican party stalwarts hated the Tea Party, but they hated the social conservative wing a lot more than they hated the economic conservative wing. Most of the major Internet libertarian and Tea Party bloggers have been economic conservatives, not social conservatives. So, the Republican stalwarts and the libertarian economic conservatives joined forces to give us ... Mitt Romney.
Social conservatives hated Romney, but we hated Barack more, so everyone held their nose and voted for Romney.
Well, not everyone.
As we found out Tuesday night, conservatives, whether economic or social, are in the minority. We are in round two of FDR’s interminable reign. More on that in a bit.
What I want to focus on right now is the dissonance from the economic conservatives. We have, on the one hand, people like Glenn Reynolds and Ann Althouse - supporters of gay marriage, not particularly opposed to abortion, libertarian economic conservative types - who tell us not to worry.
And as Andrew Breitbart often reminded us, the most important battles must be cultural ones, because culture and media inevitably shape the political choices we make together.
That war must begin anew. And it begins now.
But when these people use phrases like “the most important battles must be cultural”, they don’t mean by the word “cultural” the same thing that social conservatives mean. We mean “no sodomite marriage, no abortion, no euthanasia, no contraception, return to Christ”. That is not what the economic conservatives mean. By “culture,” the economic conservatives mean “no socialism. no government control,” i.e., they mean economic culture, not moral culture. As one economically conservative commentator so concisely put it:
“Im not religious, and my political beliefs dont rest on a religious foundation. Gay marriage (to pick one example) doesnt bother me much. I did, though, find the various bizarre comments about rape from Republican candidates to be stupid and offensive, and it wouldnt surprise me if they helped to cost enough potential Republican votes to sway the election.”
We know how well economic conservatives are doing politically.
So, how are social conservatives making out?
To take one example, every exit poll in every state where exit polls were conducted showed majority support for abortion. Three of Sarah Palin’s pro-life picks went down to defeat shortly after they announced pro-life sentiments. Given Palin’s phenomenal success in picking winners, that’s a substantive, significant loss. It is worth noting how the establishment Republicans reacted to these pro-life comments: repudiation, dismissal, abandonment.
Pro-lifers can mewl about how the majority of the population is pro-life. It may even be true on some level. But pro-lifers didn’t show up to the polls. In fact, most people didn’t show up to vote.
If pro-lifers won’t vote against Barack Hussein Obama, pro-lifers won’t vote. If pro-lifers won’t vote for pro-life candidates, they aren’t pro-life.
In short, we do not have a pro-life majority in any meaningful sense, no matter what the polls may say.
I mentioned above that we are facing FDR redux. That has implications as well.
FDR stacked the Supreme Court.
Obama will too.
He may replace as many as four justices in his second term. The new SCOTUS will make the Warren Court look like Jerry Falwell’s ice cream social club. Gun control, homosexual marriage, pedophilia, bestiality, sharia law, speech censorship - the new SCOTUS will have 20 years to implement the left’s agenda, and they will put that time to good use.
The moral culture, what’s left of it, will be shredded.
Obamacare will rip the belly out of the American economy.
It isn’t coming back.
FDR bought his majorities. He used tax dollars to put people on the dole, thereby buying votes. Once on the government dole, people were afraid to leave it. He reigned 16 years because he turned Americans into beggars. People stopped believing they could succeed on their own, create small businesses on their own, and regulations prohibited them trying. He controlled the culture through government regulation.
The battlefields of WW II destroyed FDR’s beggar mentality. America’s men learned, quite literally, to innovate or die. Those who couldn’t innovate fast enough did die. Only the lucky and the smart survived. Many people attribute America’s post-war dominance to her lack of competition in the world market, the fact that her factories were not destroyed. All true.
But there is something else. American casualties were not as high as that of Russia, Germany, Japan, Britain, or France. For America alone, the war killed off our lousy innovators without cutting deeply into the ranks of the superior innovators. For most other nations, the men who came back from the war did so in body bags, and were buried. For America, the men who came back from the war were alive, they were the ones who could think on their feet. These were the men who built the Apollo program, the electronic revolution, the age of passenger jets.
That generation is gone.
Obama’s win demonstrates that the United States has again descended to the beggar mentality of FDR’s America. But this beggar mentality has something new. This beggar mentality combines with the morality of the alley cat and the stray dog, the morality of the animal that eat its own children when hunger gnaws. This is the morality of the rich pagan elite, who gleefully kill each other for a chance at power.
For the entire life of the Church, there have been generations plagued by evil priests and bishops. Many Catholics, not just in this generation, but in many that came before us, have spent a lifetime waiting for bad priests, bad bishops to retire and/or die. Nothing else could be done but wait.
In this political situation, while white Catholics voted against Obama, Hispanic Catholics voted overwhelmingly for him. The populace, both Catholic and non-Catholic, has been beggared in both economics and morality, where the population affirmatively chooses murderous despotism, there is nothing to do but wait. Such a generation will have no children, of course.
The future belongs only to those who do have children, to those who manage to keep their children unstained by the muck of the rabid culture that surrounds them.
The wise man does not get into hand-to-hand combat with a rabid dog. If he lacks a rifle or a bow - and we lack both - then he just stands off in the distance, and waits for the dog’s inevitable death. America will not survive this election in any recognizable form. At this point, we can preserve only the ideas she once stood for, preserve them in our children, and wait for the dogs to die.
I done stole that one without your permission! :-)
Yes, this one does sound kinda like a prepper article.
I don’t think O is the antichrist. I don’t think the world is yet where we are ready for the antichrist to rise. But, I think we are seeing a population being prepared to fall for an antichrist.
Why I don’t think the world is there yet is in looking around me every day. Parking lots at restaurants and stores are still full, for the most part. In all honesty, my life isn’t really bad, and hasn’t been really bad for the last four years. I have food, I have clothes, I have a home. And while our population is hurting immensely, there is a good majority of people like me. Also, I look at the ME, and they are not particularly pleased with the O. So, I don’t think we are there, quite yet.
But, given the numbers of people who did vote for O, despite everything going on around our nation, to our fellow brothers and sisters, I think we are entering that time. I even wonder how many people got to the polling place, with no intention of voting for him, but did at that last moment, that something overcame them, almost like a compulsion?
We couldnt possibly know who is at this point. Not until a peace treaty is signed. I was just pointing out that whoever it will be will not necessarily have to be the best and brightest. God will cause those who are not His to follow blindly whoever it is.
Now we have neither.
All we can do is situate ourselves so that when it DOES hit bottom, we are in a better position than those who haven't prepared, and at least our families are somewhat protected.
