Rough Seas on 'Noah': Darren Aronofsky Opens Up on the Biblical Battle....
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | February 12, 2014 | Kim Masters

The trouble began when Paramount, nervous about how audiences would respond to Aronofsky's fantastical world and his deeply conflicted Noah, insisted on conducting test screenings over the director's vehement objections while the film was a work in progress.

Friction grew when a segment of the recruited Christian viewers, among whom the studio had hoped to find Noah's most enthusiastic fans, questioned the film's adherence to the Bible story and reacted negatively to the intensity and darkness of the lead character. Aronofsky's Noah gets drunk, for example, and considers taking drastic measures to eradicate mankind from the planet. Hoping to woo the faith-based crowd, Paramount made and tested as many as half-a-dozen of its own cuts of the movie.[Break]

Both director and studio say that's now all behind them. "There was a rough patch," Aronofsky allows, but at this point, Paramount is fully supporting his version. Vice chair Rob Moore says the studio is launching an advertising campaign designed to communicate that this film -- an exploration of Noah's emotional journey -- flows in large part from Aronofsky's imagination.

A compelling interpretation of the allegorical and thus oversimplified description of the story of Noah found in the Bible is that of Paul McGuire (an ardent Christian as well as scientist) who posits the theory that the command to Noah by God to build the Ark and select pairs of all living creatures for rescue was in response to the fouling of all DNA on earth by the numerous "fallen angels" who had visited earth and had sexual relations with all beings here. I'm not saying I ascribe to the theory but it is consistent with McGuire's explanation of the Tower of Babel being in reality a fourth dimensional portal through which these satanic creatures were able to access the relatively pristine earth and its inhabitants.

Well this is based on the hybrid Nepalim theory, where fallen angels bred with human woman to spawn a race of giants. Which I don't buy, angels are non corporal beings and cannot reproduce. God in the Torah clearly indicates he had the flood to wipe out man, not some demonic hybrids, would kind of throw the whole message out the window. Humans are capable of any cruelty or evil any demon and even Satan himself can concoct no need to imagine bogeymen hybrids.

I cannot quibble with Darren Aronofsk’s version of NOAH or Mark Burnett & Roma Downey’s version of the Bible. Hell, sometimes when I look at my KJV bible, I cannot help but wonder if maybe I am reading some 17th century Church of England minister's version of a 16th century version of a possible mistranslation of the Catholic version of the Greek Version of the Torah and the various new Testament writer’s versions.
Now we have the KJV, the NKJV, the NWV, the ASV and at least forty other “versions”.
So, I would have to say that Darren Aronofsk’s version is probably as valid as any.

Well all I know is every version says "Peter I am the rock YOU shall build MY church on"...not "Peter YOU are the rock the church will be built on".

Hollywood making an accurate Bible movie. Like a man trying to explain women.

No. Modern translations are translations. Most are very good. Some target a different reading level, but most modern translations, made without a particular agenda, are accurate. They are made from the Hebrew and Greek, not from earlier translations.

They do not in any way compare with someone who HAS an agenda pulling stuff out of his butt to toss at audiences.

Fuel for the fire:

We know angels have no wings, but rather appear as men. We know they can appear frighteningly brilliant. We also know they can eat food. We know some were cast into Tartarus for leaving their first estate. We also know that Noah was "perfect in his generations" and that "all flesh had corrupted it's way on the earth".

Jude 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

2 Peter 2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;

Genesis 19:1, "1. The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.... 5. They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”

Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

This essentially monosyllabic reply reminds me of the sage advice given to those of minimal intelligence to keep their utterances to a minimum and thus preserve at least the appearance of possessing great wisdom. I invite you to support your knee jerk response with something a bit more substantive. But not holding my breath.

I could have made up something better than that. Maybe the fallen angels were space aliens.

Theory?????
Bible says they can, and they did.

The physical realm is a shadow existence of the spiritual one.
We live in a subset of a greater and larger reality.
For angelic beings to take physical form is a very common and regular occurrence.

If only Hollywood realized how much money there is to be made from telling an accurate biblical story. I have always believed an epic film triology of King Davids life would be awesome.

I think I’ll pass on this movie. The trailer was pretty uncompelling. It’s too bad, really. If someone would make a truly Biblically based film about the Flood, it could be a fantastic, God-glorifying experience.

And why are Noah and his family, who were Middle Easterners, dressed like 12th century Celts?

The central message of Genesis, and the entire Bible, is ethical, not genetic. What this "satanic DNA" theory has at its heart is the message that Godly ethics is transmitted (or corrupted) via genetics, hence the need to "cleanse" the Earth of "tainted bloodlines. I myself believe that God works with people from all genetic bloodlines, i.e. God works with people with whom He has engaged in an ethical, covenant relationship.

But re the Tower of Babel being a fourth dimensional portal through which satanic creatures had access to Earth? That's advancing the idea that men in the physical realm can manipulate and control the spiritual realm. Oooooh boy.
