Pakistan clerical panel endorses polygamy

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani clerical panel has endorsed polygamy, saying a woman cannot object if her husband remarries.

The body that advices the government on religious affairs has long been condemned for its retrograde and misogynist outlook.

"A woman cannot demand a divorce over a second, third or fourth marriage of her husband. Islam has given a woman right to separate from her husband, but another marriage could not be a valid ground for doing so," local media reported Islamic Council of Ideology (CII) chairman Shah Ahmed Sheerani as saying.

He observed the Muslim Divorce Act, 1939, was against the Sharia. "We want the government to repeal this section," he said.

Sheerani said a woman could seek separation if she is treated with inequality or cruelty. "A woman can seek divorce if her spouse having more than one wife, does not treat her equitably in accordance with the injunctions of the Holy Quran," he said.

The cleric said the CII had suggested to the government to amend the marriage laws as the Sharia has clearly defined provisions of up to four marriages by a man.

He said "nikah" (marriage contract) of an under aged is justified only if it has the approval of father or grandfather of the girl in good faith and not as part of a ritual. "But rukhsati (marriage) before attaining the age of 18 is not allowed in Islam.''

CII's latest misogynist statement has prompted condemnation with rights activist Mustafa Qadri saying: "Sheerani reminds us why Pakistan's Council of Islamic Ideology is beyond a joke. Shame on him.''

They might want to rethink that. suppose you need to stone to death two or more wives at the same time. The logistics behind that would be formidable.

Stoning one or two really doesn’t matter.

Stone the first and everything will be so much easier with the next one. It’s all in the wrist.

Islam at its best.

SCOTUS apparently now also referred to as ‘Pakistan clerical panel’.

The wives have families and those families love their daughters. If a daughter is being abused, she tells her family as they don't lose touch. The abusing family suffers from the public shame of abusing a woman.

There was a time in Chinese culture when female babies were killed because boy babies were wanted, but that was China. I can't think of any other culture that did that.

Officially, China doesn't do that now because of their one-baby policy, but I'm not sure that I believe it. Muslims were never into any kind of abortion. It has always been an evil in those societies. They have always welcomed even the least-perfect babies.

My husband and I lived in Saudi Arabia five years.
During that time I asked the 30 Saudi men I worked with about having multiple wives. They all said the same thing:
It was that only the WEALTHIEST men could afford multiple wives because, according to the Koran, they all had to be treated equally. So if hubby gives a house to ONE wife, he had to do the same with the other three. And, they all said: "One wife is enough."

Pakistan is different. They aren't Arabs and their culture stems from the Indian culture since Pakistanis are Indians by race: Indians who left Hinduism for monotheism. Nothing else.
I think they're all nuts.

Men in Pakistan can have multiple wives.
watch the U.S try to out do them by coming up with a law saying a man can have multiple men.

I believe India also practices female abortion in order to have just sons.

I believe India also practices female abortion in order to have just sons.

Not necessarily. They don't have the one-baby law.

The Chinese aborted SO many female fetuses that there was an entire generation of men who (not the richest, naturally) had NO WOMEN to marry. They were call the "Bare Branches."
And EVEN after that the Chinese STILL preferred the sons.
The Chinese government even promised the daughter her father's job if they allowed the female to live. THAT didn't work either. The Chinese STILL wanted sons.

The Chinese, as you know, have NO alphabet. They have "pictographs" for their presenting of ideas.
For example, a pictograph for a MAN is a male in a field as a farmer.
The pictograph for GOOD is a woman with a small boy (a son) next to her. That is their idea of the word GOOD.

As for the Indians, they can have as many children as they want and so feel no need to abort their female babies...and they don't. They love all their children.

While we were in Saudi Arabia I worked with many Indians, no Hindus, though, as the Hindus aren't "people of the Book," the Bible.
Muslims ARE people of the "Book," as their Koran is a knockoff of our Bible, especially the Old Testament. Jesus is called "ISSA."
So all our Indian workers were either Catholics and Muslims.
