When two or more people come together in HIS name, that is church.

The LORD was speaking to the Jewish Apostles in the first passage, when he gave those apostles the power to bind and loose. The Apostle to the Gentiles was writing to the church in Corinth in the second when he was correcting the members there of misbehavior.

Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

Well, what I meant by “conflict” was the conflict between her accusation against protestants and the accusation protestant Freepers constantly get thrown at us, namely that we all follow our own personal interpretations of Scripture.

Perhaps the question ought to be formed as: How many variations of Christianity are there? Just as there are many variations of the rose, there are variations of Christianity. As one says that each variation is still a rose, so we as Christians are still Christians.

Acts 15:8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Interesting point. Here's a couple of threads from 2008 that might just explain things:

GeronL said: It doesn’t matter. When two or more people come together in HIS name, that is church. That is the One True Church, that is the church founded by Jesus Christ.

Cripplecreek replied: Exactly. As far as I’m concerned, anyone who tries to stir trouble between Protestants and Catholics is no friend of Christianity.

GreyFriar says: AMEN!

"Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division." Luke 12:51

I don't think Saint Peter will believe your motivation for posting this was to praise the Lord. But go ahead; try it with Him. He might buy it. I'm certainly not.

Yet Catholics on a daily basis claim there is no division in the Catholic Church. Hmmmmm!

The concept of freedom to follow Christ according to one's conscience is lost on a church that behaves like a labor union, with collectivist "masses" and bosses and shop stewards to keep you in line by hearing your "work record" (confessions). "Call no man father" is what I say.

I wouldn’t have used the phrase “infallible source”, because now they can just respond under their peculiar definition of infallible, which amounts to “it must be true because we say it is”.

Never said Catholics all agree, they just don’t decide to create a new denomination every time 2 of them disagree.

To: GreyFriar; All

Continual head-butting has made my head hurt and I’m no longer certain why I’ve engaged so much in such fruitless exchanges on FR.

Eternal life runs much deeper than this FR religion forum can ever begin to address adequately. And I’ve received confirmation today that my contribution has been less, a great deal less, than I had first desired.

Been looking through too smokey a window to make the sweeping statements that have contributed to the foolish debate in which I’ve been engaged.

Apologies extended to all. I shall think before I leap into future FR threads.

Good point. The Bible never says “repent, be baptized, and recognize the authority of the Pope” is the way one becomes a Christian, so Catholics cannot deny that Protestants are fellow Christians.

Now, what does the Bible say about how to treat fellow Christians who aren’t part of your own particular organization?

“38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”

39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.” Mark 9:38-41

Hmm, do you think that verse is talking about causing divisions between the followers of Christ? Or are you unable to determine that, since you can’t privately interpret the Scripture yourself?
