Pope Francis Equates Christian Fundamentalists to Islamist Killers & Terrorists

Pope Francis equated Christianity with Islam while leaving Turkey.

“We have our share of fundamentalists” too.

The pope also said fighting poverty and hunger were key to defeating Islamist killers. Ugh.

The Jerusalem Post reported:

Pope Francis said Sunday that equating Islam with violence was wrong and called on Muslim leaders to issue a global condemnation of terrorism to help dispel the stereotype.

Francis, the leader of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, told reporters aboard his plane returning from a visit to Turkey that he understood why Muslims were offended by many in the West who automatically equated their religion with terrorism.

Francis’ predecessor, Benedict XVI, caused storms of protest throughout the Islamic world in 2006, when he made a speech that suggested to many Muslims that he believed Islam espoused violence.

Benedict said he had been misunderstood and apologized. But this year, the image of a violent religion has once more been promoted by Islamic State, who have seized swathes of Syria and Iraq, slaughtering or driving out Shi’ite Muslims, Christians and others who do not share their radical brand of Sunni Islam.

The Argentine pope, who has been trying to foster cooperation with moderate Islam in order to work for peace and protect Christians in the Middle East, said it was wrong for anyone to react to terrorism by being “enraged” against Islam.

“You just can’t say that, just as you can’t say that all Christians are fundamentalists. We have our share of them (fundamentalists). All religions have these little groups,” he said.

Muslims slaughtered 683 innocents THIS WEEK.

Christian fundamentalists have killed no one.

Someone needs to talk with this pope.

You sound like the former HHS secretary Kathleen Sibelius today, "the professor 'is not very articulate with the phrasing that he uses.'"

And the guy from HS, Johnson, defending his Obama yesterday: "I want to see the full context."

A century ago, the population of Istanbul was once over 20% Christian (Greek and Armenian Orthodox, with a smaller number of Maronite Catholics). It is now at about 1%, and yet Pope Francis sees a “moral equivalence” between Christianity and Islam in the Middle East?

Wrong. He said: <> “These (words) were in fact a quotation from a Medieval text which do not in any way express my personal thought”<>

Personally think the “fear of the LORD” is missing from modern theology. Why preach if it is not for salvation? Salvation from what and Who?

Fundamentalist Christians obviously murder fewer people than do fundamentalist Muslims, but do murder some, even these days. In 2014, Frazier Glenn Miller, a Klansman, murdered 3 at the Overland Park Jewish Community Center (Kansas City area). Lest we forget that the KKK, besides being anti-black, is militantly Protestant and opposed to Catholics and Jews.

Heh! Indeed, some of our Catholic brethren here love to stir the pot, lambasting Protestants as “heretics” and such. Such antique prejudices seem quaint in our modern age. (And yes, I know some Protestants here have a penchant of haranguing Catholics, and I deplore that, as well.)

There are hardly any real Klansmen anymore. At least 9/10ths of them are FBI informants, SPLC plants, agents provocateur, CIA assets, local police snitches and crazies.

Fundamentalist Christians are Protestants and KKK members?

Dear Francis I:

OUR fundamentalists believe that the earth was created in six days.

ISLAM’S fundamentalists apparently believe that we should all convert, pay a tax or die.

No Christian is going to murder as Miller did.

Are you trying to convince someone that the KKK are fundamentalist Christians?

I’m not sure there were even that many people in Europe at the time.

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m just saying this it outside of the scope of the original discussion.

Yes, the claims are ludicrous on their face.

Thanks!

The one I was referring to had a bunch of man shaped figures in colors of blue and black and they reflected amounts of black/black, white on black, black on white, etc. crime over the years. It was also quite interesting.

I just saw the NY choke hold incident and honestly, from what I saw, it just seems so wrong....the guy shouldn’t be dead. On the other hand I think Mike Brown was asking for it. To me the NY incident is far more deserving of protests than the one in MO.

I wish more blacks would realize that the out of proportion high percentages of crime by blacks just puts most blacks at suspicion and risk.

“This is like bizzaro world... The anti-80s... when we had Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II... 2 great conservative leaders. Add Lady Thatcher”

It IS bizarro world! God, Ronnie - where are you? All h*ll is breaking loose with no solution in sight. Where are the great leaders? The heroes who step up in times of crisis to provide some equilibrium?

And if a light does appear, it may be an oncoming train. Maybe this all is meant to be, for some reason it all has to go down this way, but I grieve for the suffering and darkness to come. What a shame. Happy holidays and all that swill. Fa LA LA.

I let preterism sway me for a bit a long time ago but it didn’t last long, I just couldn’t justify it when reading some other versus (don’t remember which off hand)now I don’t want to say the Bible has contradictions but it IS hard to reconcile if you really get into the complexities. After all God does like to keep some things a mystery. Blessed are those who long for the return of the Lord...yet we are warned that the elect will be very few at the time of the end right? that we must “endure” to the end, and it is called the “Great and terrible day of the Lord.” SOme people beleive the 2nd coming of Jesus is different than the day of the Lord, those would be the ones who believe in the rapture I guess.

You taught me a new word (preterist) and considering in Revelation that there were spoken words that were sealed and not revealed, I can’t imagine that all prophecy is fulfilled. As a matter of fact I am re-reading the Old Testament with the tribulation in mind and knowing that God does not change and His word lasts forever I am looking at today’s political atmosphere (in the US) and applying the warnings of judgment to our government.

It is amazing how CORRUPT our leaders are in ALL parties according to God, especially the raping of the middle class! Of course, those who do not call for the overturn of Roe have their hands covered with blood. Bribes (major contributions), lies, etc are mentioned over and over again in the Old Testament. MICAH is wonderful. Should have to be read before the organizer of the administration gives his state of disunion address.

As for the rapture, 1 Thessalonians is a big source but it is explained in 2 Thessalonians 2 that the anti-Christ is revealed first before Christ returns. Cherry picking scripture is soooo dangerous so it is very important to do our own studies and search for truth, same as searching for God.

Oh, all the pastors teaching rapture theology are in danger of God’s judgment as being false teachers preaching “peace, we will not be attacked” just as the false prophets LIED to Israel and Judah before the nations were invaded and destroyed.
