Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

Posted on 12/14/2014 11:57:21 AM PST by ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

I make no claims to know the details of the actions of God.

There is a certain amount of physical evidence that praying to some of those who have gone before us has a demonstrable effect in this life, in cures of diseases that have no earthly medical explanation. A couple of examples -

Pope John Paul II:

Archbishop Fulton Sheen:

Then your job is sick.

There, there.

Tell Mary all about how these mean PROTs are treating her children.

She'll understand...

Another redefined word!

Where in there did I say that? I simply listed the points that those who list what to look for and some examples. I let the readers be the judge. It seems to have struck a nerve with you.

Well, let's look at some signs universally considered when determining a cult.

Single charismatic leader. - can you say pope? .

Say they are the only true group, or the best so why go anywhere else. - Do I really need to say? .

Hyped meetings, get you to meetings rather than share with you. - How many times have we been told to "go to a mass"? .

They do not allow their teachings or practices to be questioned. If you question, then automatically the group assumes that something is wrong with you. .

They will push you to obey by using guilt. They will demand complete “submission” to the group, its leaders and its teachings. .

Mandatory, regular attendance .

Separating the believers (the in crowd) from the non believers - who can take communion in a Catholic Church? .

And another...attempting to silence all criticism.

I've never seen so many call on FREE REPUBLIC to have a thread pulled. Some must think they are on Salon.com!

no their heresy was translated the Bible into their native language and CHANGING THE WORDS to fit their own interests.

According to Catholic propaganda.

Never the less, he was burned at the stake.

Connie's council didn't do it, like when Jesus was turned over to rome to be excuted, so Hus was given to the secularists.

Naturally they got pleasure for horribly killing some one who was working (against rome) to get the Bible out to the common man.

Got the hierarchy of Catholicism's panties in a bunch so what the heck, kill him.

Do you realize that if Catholics ignored the whole thread from the beginning there would probably be about 10-15 posts in it at best? But no, Catholics need to come in and start stuff.

Now the poster claims Catholicism is a cult. Why has this thread not been pulled?

The catholic church says non-catholics are anathema....why haven't all catholic threads been pulled??

I posted this as an open discussin forum. I didn't hide behind the "caucus" thread as some do.

There are a number of threads on the Religion topic I don't personally like....but I don't read them.

You had an option to select this thread and read it. You did and now you don't like some of the comments. Your choice is to keep reading or leave the thread.

It's called FREE REPUBLIC for a reason and not Salon.com.

If you look at the rules, you will see that moderators do not judge the different belief systems.

Posters are allowed to post their beliefs about other religious organizations.

Others can dispute them.

Getting a thread pulled so sensitive members do not have to see what others post negatively about their denomination is absurd.

The mods would say that thin skinned members should ignore open threads

BTW, posting to moder-ator will not reach a FR moderator. I believe that is someone’s screen name.

Please spare me your dissertations.

In the true spirit of Sola Scriptura, I can accept only what is written and not your or any other interpretation of sacred scripture.

Is it Biblical to be only Biblical?

Is it Biblical to be only Biblical?

Only IF you believe in the inspiration of God, and want profitable doctrine, are able to be corrected, wish to be righteous and perfect and be thoroughly furnished to do all good works. 2 Tim 3:16,17 Otherwise you can join the denominations going down the broad path with the handbasket.

Well, you clearly believe those in Heaven are not a part of the mystical body of Christ.

Maybe you should consider the following passage from Revelation (5:8-14). Again from Tim Staples:

The Book of Revelation gives us an even better description of this communication between heaven and earth:

The twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints … the elders fell down and worshipped (5:8-14).

These “elders” are offering the prayers of the faithful symbolized by incense filtering upward from the earth to heaven. And because they are seen receiving these prayers, we can reasonably conclude they were both directed to these saints in heaven and that they were initiated by the faithful living on earth. We also see this same phenomenon being performed by the angels in Revelation 8:3-4:

And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God.

The bottom line is this: Both the faithful on earth and our brothers and sisters in heaven (and let’s not forget our “cousins,” the angels) are all acting just as Catholics would expect. Believers on earth are initiating prayers which the saints and angels in heaven are receiving. Is this the necromancy condemned in Deuteronomy and Isaiah? Absolutely not! This is New Testament Christianity.
