Obama: Jesus Is ‘A Son of God’ [4/04/2012]

Speaking to a group of Christian clergy at the Easter Prayer Breakfast he hosted at the White House on Wednesday, President Barack Obama referred to Jesus Christ as “a son of God.”

“It’s an opportunity for us to reflect on the triumph of the resurrection, and to give thanks for the all-important gift of grace,” Obama said of Easter, which is this Sunday. “And for me, and I’m sure for some of you, it’s also a chance to remember the tremendous sacrifice that led up to that day, and all that Christ endured--not just as a Son of God, but as a human being.”

Catholics say:

>>The veneration given to Mary and other saints is dulia.<<

Dulia - The veneration given to Mary and other saints is dulia.

Scripture says:

1 Corinthians 7:22 For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord's freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ's slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings.

So Catholics admit to being slaves of Mary (a human being) rather than slaves to Christ. How very telling.

Are you capable of discussing anything without revealing contempt and hate?

>>The Incarnation came about only AFTER Mary had been asked for her consent<<

Asked for her consent??

Luke 1:31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:37 And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word."

Asked for her consent???? Why do Catholics have to twist the words of scripture to support their beliefs?

>>More Christians worldwide share the same beliefs for the Virgin Mary than your non-beliefs in the Mother of God.<<

Just 34% of Americans know Obama claims to be a Christian.

Oh yeah, I love the weasel words they use.

"Some will argue, however, that this "James" was not an apostle or that he was not one of the original. Though this is a possibility"

Catholicism lives on weasel words and corruptions of scripture.

>>Mary is, by our standards, already married.<<

Wrong. She is "betrothed" as in contractually committed to become the wife though not yet the wife as in "took her to wife". I would suggest some study of ancient Jewish wedding customs rather than make rash statements.

>>THE ANGEL HAS NOT TOLD HER SHE IS ALREADY PREGNANT. NOR HAS HE TOLD HER SHE IS GOING TO BE PREGNANT WITHIN MINUTES.<<

Weasel words.

Obama at his best in parsing words to deflect meanings. Over many years of dealing with people in civilian and legal frameworks I believe the quote attributed to Lincoln about fooling people has merit.

Thin-skinned?

I never said I was hurt or offended. I just pointed out that you are apparently unable to conceal your hate.

>>Who is the “woman clothed with the sun,” in John’s vision?<<

It was a sign and the sign was pointing to the nation if Israel. A sign>/b> is not a person. It's foretold in Isaiah.

Isaiah 66:7 Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child. 8 Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.

Here we find it in Revelation 12.

Revelation 12:5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who "will rule all the nations with an iron scepter." And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.

The sign in Revelation 12 is not pointing to Mary. It's pointing to the nation of Israel just as Isaiah prophesied.

Ahhh, Mary the Great Forgiver:

MARY, MOTHER OF FORGIVENESS

When Jesus was hanging on the cross and saw His apostles and disciples desperately in need of being forgiven and giving forgiveness, He told Mary to be the mother of all His disciples, [No, he told John behold your Mother so he would take care of her] represented by John. He told all of us to accept Mary as our spiritual mother. Mary is a minister of reconciliation [Formerly the job of Jesus](see 2 Cor 5:18) who will help us accept God's grace to forgive.

Mary is "Our Lady of Sorrows." However, she has been given a pre-eminent part in God's plan of salvation not merely through her sufferings but also through her loving forgiveness for those who have caused her Son's sufferings. Mary is the "Mother of Forgiveness." She prayed with her tortured and crucified Son: "Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing" [Not found in scripture](Lk 23:34). She forgave each of us for our part in murdering her Son. This made it possible for her to obey the dying Jesus' command that she be our mother (Jn 19:26-27). Mary is the "Mother of the Church" because she is first "the Mother of Forgiveness."

Addressing Mary as the "Mother of Forgiveness," ask Mary to be your mother and to pray for you. Promote devotion to Mary under the title of "Mary, the Mother of Forgiveness." Pray the novena of "Mary, the Mother of Sorrows" and invite others to do the same. Pray the following prayer:

"Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I ask for the willingness to forgive and the grace to forgive immediately all who have sinned against me. On Calvary, You gave Mary the grace to forgive me for my part in killing her Son. Then you gave Mary the grace to become my mother (Jn 19:26-27).

Mary, Mother of Forgiveness, may I forgive others as you forgave me in imitation of your Son. Mary, take my hand and lead me as I decide to accept God's grace to forgive (name the person) for (name the sin), etc.

Jesus, thank You for giving me Mary, 'Mother of Forgiveness' to be my mother.

'Mary, Mother of Forgiveness,' pray for me."

No. Your hatred for Catholics.

Your remark wasn’t about Scripture. It was “What is wrong with YOU CATHOLICS?”

If your arguments about religion were motivated by charity, you wouldn’t throw around contemptuous remarks about the very people you are carrying on a discussion with.

When people are motivated by charity, contempt and scorn don’t keep popping up in their conversation.

When Jesus was hanging on the cross and saw His apostles and disciples desperately in need of being forgiven and giving forgiveness, He told Mary to be the mother of all His disciples, represented by John. He told all of us to accept Mary as our spiritual mother.

http://www.presentationministries.com/brochures/BookOnForgiveness.asp

This account is not in Scripture.

No where in the Bible is Mary ever referred to as our spiritual mother.

No where in the Bible is Jesus ever telling Mary to be the mother of His disciples. This must be where the rcc title, "queen of the apostles" for Mary originates.

So instead of Peter being the "lead" disciple, it's John instead?!

Catholicism is now erring in a huge manner. They are corrupting the text to make it fit their narrative of worshipping Mary.

This is how it is in Christianity. John 19:25-27

....But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.

Now, if the above misinterpretation of scripture isn't enough, catholics continue to double down on their version of Mary.

Mary is a minister of reconciliation (see 2 Cor 5:18) who will help us accept God's grace to forgive.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, in Scripture to support this assertion from catholicism.

From 2 Corinthians 5:16-21. I've included the verses just before and after for context. The reader will note there is no mention of Mary in this passage.

16Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer.

17Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

18Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,

19namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

21He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

I pray catholics come out of the darkness of deception they are in and come into the light of Jesus Christ, Savior of the World.

No where in the Bible is Mary ever referred to as our spiritual mother.

The entire Gospel of John uses a system of symbols. Each action of Jesus--feeding the multitude, turning water into wine, being sacrificed in the manner of the Passover Lamb, giving Mary to John as his mother--is used by John as a sign of a greater or spiritual reality.

The Gospel DOES tell us that Mary is our spiritual mother--precisely in the passage we are discussing. The expectation that every truth in Scripture is to be found on the surface, expressed explicitly, rationalistically, and concretely, is a symptom of the loss of an understanding of the "spiritual sense" of Scripture.

The New Testament was not written in order to set out in explicit detail, using a concrete, rationalistic mode of expression, each and every belief of the Church.

BTW: If Mary had a number of children other than Jesus, then Jesus was VIOLATING THE LAW by giving Mary to John as his mother.

Do you play chess?

You might want to rethink what you just wrote about the ENTIRE GOSPEL OF JOHN USING A SYSTEM OF SYMBOLS.....

And the people say, "say what??"
