Blood of St Januarius Liquefies During Francis’s Visit to Naples

The blood last liquefied in a pope's presence in 1848

The blood of St Januarius liquefied in the presence of a pope for the first time since 1848 on Saturday.

The blood of the patron saint of Naples, which is normally solid, partially liquefied after Pope Francis kissed the relic during his day trip to the southern Italian city.

According to AFP, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe of Naples showed the vial to the congregation in the city’s cathedral, saying: “The blood has half liquefied, which shows that St Januarius loves our Pope and Naples.”

We need to be careful. Ultimately, our faith cannot be in these types of things. It should be in the finished work of Christ on the cross, in His Word, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, Christ’s intercession at the Father’s right hand and in His soon coming. Pharaoh’s magicians were able to turn their rods into snakes (Aarons’ rod ate theirs, hee, hee). My point is that Jesus told his disciples 4 times to beware that in the Last Days deceivers would come. He stated that spiritual discernment would be in short supply and that the deception that was coming would even be difficult for true believers to sort out (to deceive the very elect, if that were possible). The antichrist and false prophet will be able to do lots of impressive stuff. Does that mean they’re “from God”? Of course not. They get their power from the other side - Satan himself. Just be cautious of those claiming “signs and wonders” as evidence that they’re from God or speaking from Him. Does their life and ministry line up with God’s Word? Are they preaching a different gospel? I think it was the Apostle Paul that stated that, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed,” even if they do impressive stuff.

Therein lies the rub. Even if this blood miracle happened exactly as they believe, they can’t know if it’s a miracle from God or the result of Satanic/occultic power.

This argument always comes up. The same argument was made against Jesus.

When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “The man drives out demons only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.”

Knowing their thoughts, He told them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is headed for destruction, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, who is it your sons drive them out by? For this reason they will be your judges. If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. How can someone enter a strong man’s house and steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house. Anyone who is not with Me is against Me, and anyone who does not gather with Me scatters. Because of this, I tell you, people will be forgiven every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy againstthe Spirit will not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the one to come.

Miracles like this, and others like this (the Shroud of Turin, the Tilma of Juan Diego) lead people to Christ.

Satan does not lead people to Christ. Therefore, this miracle can't be of demonic origin.

It’s all BS in my book.

That's an opinion. You're certainly entitled to it.

But it's not an argument, or contradictory evidence.

Believe what you want and need to believe. I stand by what I said, but I will add that I can accept some people might be led to Rome by something like this, but not to Christ. The Bible tells us that “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Flesh and blood in the biological, physiological sense have DNA. Flesh and blood in the real, substantial sense do not necessarily have DNA.

The consecrated Host has no physiological functions. For instance It has no respiratory reflexes, It has no circulatory system, It has no musculature. But it is Christ's real, substantial Body under the appearance (and that would include the chemical analysis) of bread.

Maybe you didn't know that.

Christians are our own worst enemy.

There is not better way to start a fight on Free Republic than for one Christian denomination to state a claim here on FR so the rest can bash them.

A Pox on all of you. Christ did not die so that we can all bash each other over minutia and irrelevancies.

Christians from the various denominations are our own worst enemies. Who needs radical Muslims when we do such a good job of eating our own?

A Pox on the lot of you. It is enough to swear one off Christianity altogether. Thank God my relationship is with Christ and not with a bunch of backstabbing Christians, because many of you disgust me.

Again, this has nothing to do with the blood of St. Januarius.

Yes, but in exceptional Eucharistic miracles like Lanciano, the Eucharistic Elements lose Their usual appearance (or "accidents") of bread and wine, to resume at least some of the appearances of the materials of physiological life.

I really can't discuss it further, because I don't really know the Scholastic philosophical vocabulary. Translating these rather abstract terms has often caused a lot of trouble. For instance, Aquinas raised doubts that the Latin "substantia" really was an exact synonym of the Greek "ousia" --- and in common (21th century) English, "Substance" means almost the OPPOSITE of "ousia".

There, I've already told you more than I know!

We can solve that problem once for all...Send me a hand full of them wafers and I’ll have them tested...If they all show DNA, the world can then be silenced from the criticism of your religion...

Well there's the problem right there...Do they care what's said in the scriptures??? Of course not...The question is: what does the Catholic religion claim about the issue...

Nope, they don't...They lead people to a false christ which is your Catholic religion...Your religion claims as much, that the Catholic religion IS God...

And Satan is very happy to lead people to false religions...Especially his own religion...

Whoa! I suppose this means he is a real, authentic, overseen-by-the-Holy-Spirit pope (if the timing of the liquification was right and it doesn’t happen on that date anyway). But still wrong/misguided when he says pejorative things about faithful trads (and when he encourages evil-doers deliberately or inadvertently).

This not an "ad hominem" either. It is an "ad postium". :o)

"Your religion claims as much, that the Catholic religion IS God..."

Iscool, I wish you could make your point, whatever it is, in a more accurate way, without falsehoods.

When you say things that aren't true, it tends to inhibit constructive conversation. It lack real heuristic value.

This is something made up by your religion, isn't it??? 'Flesh and blood in the real substantial sense'...Oh brother!!! That's got to be something to dupe poor Catholics who ask too many questions...

The consecrated Host has no physiological functions. For instance It has no respiratory reflexes, It has no circulatory system, It has no musculature. But it is Christ's real, substantial Body under the appearance (and that would include the chemical analysis) of bread.

Of course flesh has no functions if it is not part of an organ...And if it has none of those things you mentioned, it is NOT flesh and blood...

Jesus had real flesh and blood...Your religion's claim is that it eats THAT flesh and blood...Real flesh and blood with real DNA...If it has no DNA, it is not the flesh and blood of Jesus...You need to find another name for it...

You must not be a Catholic then since their relationship is with their religion...Their religion is Christ, so they say...But I'm sorry you are so disgusting...

Sure it does...Either they both have DNA and can be proven to be blood, or not...

I really can't discuss it further, because I don't really know the Scholastic philosophical vocabulary.

Col_2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Your philosophy is vanity, built on man's failed wisdom...
