Pope Francis: nations that block illegal immigration should seek God’s forgiveness

The hits, they just keep on coming. In his Wednesday audience today, Pope Francis called for “respect for migrants” and stated that those who seek to curb illegal immigration should seek God’s forgiveness. You can try to lambaste the secular site quoted below as being biased, but, just to quell that temptation, I also provide Rome Reports’ video of his audience that includes the same message.

Pope Francis on Wednesday called for respect for migrants and suggested that “people and institutions” who close doors to them should seek forgiveness from God.

The pope’s appeal, made at the end of his weekly general audience, came amid growing debate in Europe on how to deal with an immigrant crisis that has included clashes at the French-Italian borer between police and migrants.

“I invite you all to ask forgiveness for the persons and the institutions who close the door to these people who are seeking a family, who are seeking to be protected,” he said in unscripted remarks delivered in a somber voice.

France and Austria have stepped up border controls on migrants coming from Italy, turning back hundreds and leaving growing numbers camped out in train stations in Rome and Milan…….

……The pope said “these brothers and sisters of ours are seeking refuge far from their lands, they are seeking a home where they can live without fear.”

He asked for prayers that their “human dignity always be respected” and urged the international community to “work together and efficiently to prevent the causes of forced migration”.

"Those who seek to curb illegal immigration" = "anti-Catholic."

Yawn.

Like non-Catholics care about the popes opinion.

“So how many Catholic conservatives here are still support this Leftist nutbar?”

First, how many Catholics are conservatives?

What is particularly curious is that the transcript of the General Audience on the Vatican website doesn't have those words.

What is more curious is that the partial translation posted by Vatican Radio doesn't have it either:

Pope Francis has renewed his call on the international community to take effective action on behalf of refugees. In remarks to pilgrims and tourists gathered for his weekly General Audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday, Pope Francis said, “We pray for the many brothers and sisters who seek refuge far from their native lands, who seek a home where they can live without fear: that they might always be respected in their dignity.”

The Holy Father made his appeal ahead of the UN-sponsored World Refugee Day, marked each year on June 20th. “I Encourage the work of those who bring help to those in need,” said Pope Francis.

The Holy Father concluded saying, “It is my hope that the international community should act in a fitting and effective way to prevent the causes of forced migration.”

Even more interesting, the Zenit translation doesn't have it (btw, Zenit is not owned by the Church):

Next Saturday, the World Refugee Day, promoted by the United Nations, will be observed. We pray for so many brothers and sisters who seek refuge far from their land; who look for a home where they can live without fear, so that they will always be respected in their dignity. I encourage the work of all those who provide aid to them and I hope that the International Community will act in a united and effective way to prevent the causes of forced migrations.

What is most interesting is that Asia News (which is owned by the Church -- propaganda fide) does discuss it:

An invitation to "ask forgiveness for the people and institutions that close the door" to refugees, and another to welcome “the encyclical which will be published tomorrow on the "common home" with open hearts, concluded the general audience today, dedicated by Pope Francis to the necessity that "Pastors and all Christians express a more concrete sense of faith before the experience of family mourning".

I honestly wonder why the discrepency. The Rome Reports video shows him saying it...I don't know why it wasn't actually reported accurately in most places.

"Those who seek to curb illegal immigration" = "anti-Catholic."

As if we need further proof of the Catholic Cult's nonsense. :D

Isn't it interesting... a "church" with so many rules that it expects and demands its adherents to obey... but despises the rule of law in a national sense.

Another poster quipped "full-on Marxist" -- can't disagree one bit.

Sure, many of us here think this guy is bad news but the rest of the world is going to LOVE what he is saying. They’re going to eat it up. Bad times are coming. Soon.

Why doesn’t the Pope set up more Christian missions in the countries where the illegals are from. The Church could use all that money they are currently using for climate change and social justice and actually use it to help the poor like Mother Teresa did.

Italy’s being flooded with migrants from North Africa, isn’t it?

Maybe the Pope should eat his own dogfood and set up a refugee camp in St. Peters Square.

One could cite God’s instruction to show kindness to the stranger and alien, but there was never any question of Israel being asked to welcome, unchecked, sworn enemies or ingrate freeloaders. No, one had to BIND themselves to the LORD.

In the past, immigrants did this by “binding” themselves to America. Now we have our own politicians aiding and abetting the “compassionate” welcoming of sworn enemies and ingrates, people who have no intention of leaving their societal rot behind.

The anti-Christ is stomping around where angels dare not tread - national sovereignty, rule of law, environmentalism, economics, politics, ad-nauseum.

This pope isn’t changing anything. The Catholic Church has been harboring illegals for decades just not openly proclaiming anyone who doesn’t to be sinning. It’s the Catholic Church way to incorporate the beliefs of all to attract them into becoming members. This is simply a continuation of the trend in that church that started with supposedly “sanctifying” pagan beliefs, practices, vestments, and rituals.

Interesting research.

I think it is obvious why the discrepancy. The Vatican leaders want to be able to say he was misquoted again. They know this isn't going to sit well with Catholics all over the world.

We are supposed to allow murderers, rapists, ISIS, gang members, etc. to come into our country. No thanks.

Thank you for checking other sources.

There is a big difference between “closing the door to refugees” and being allowed to process immigrants legally.

The pope said “these brothers and sisters of ours are seeking refuge far from their lands, they are seeking a home where they can live without fear.”

The problem is the people in the place where the migrants want to go also want to live without fear.

The Pope is reaching the stage where he needs to be removed from office, and there is no mechanism for doing so.

There was a Bulgarian tourist some years ago that might still be willing to have a crack at it...

Since immigration, both legal and illegal, has nothing at all to do with faith and morals I am under no obligation as a Catholic to pay any attention to the latest leftist ramblings from this pope.

Yeah, Francis. That's exactly what Muslim immigrants to Europe are doing. Just seeking a land without fear.

...how many Catholics are conservatives?

"....studies of the 2004 results identified a new hardcore vote of roughly 16 percent of Catholics (nearly 10 million people) who attend church more than once a week and identify as ideologically “conservative”.
-- from the thread America's conservative Catholics are on the warpath. Republicans should be courting them.
A couple of years back, I estimated that once one eliminates all of the self-professing Catholics who have latae-sententae excommunicated themselves for voting Democrat, failure to attend weekly mass, etc etc etc, the percentage of 70+ million American Catholics that are left would be around 10 million. But that doesn't mean that they're all politically conservative, so this is where the polling numbers come into play.

Even the most conservative-voting Protestant groups only broke 75% Republican in the last two Presidential elections. Now I know it's not accurate to equate Republicans with conservatism, but given the choices in those elections I think it's a safe comparison. IMO it's also safe to assume that our hypothetical 10 million faithful, observant Catholics would break similar to faithful, observant Protestants and Evangelicals. And thus, I estimate that there are no more than 7.5 million politically conservative, actively Catholic voters in the United States.
